  1. 11 year old Great Dane.....for a Great Dane that's pretty good.
  2. Have you considered that a puppy and a baby will be too much for her and it will probably be better for the dog to go to a home where it will get the time and attention it needs? Maybe perhaps help and support your friend in screening potential families.
  3. Hi! I'm looking for factual information, idealy with links or more information I can research. I'm trying to find on information on Vit C vs Ester C when given to Large-Giant breed pups to assist with them being down on their pasterns during teething etc. Some say that normal Vit C does not work and that it has to be Ester C, whereas others say Ester C should never be given to a large breed puppy. Anyone lend a hand on this one?
  4. Thanks for bringing them down! I'm sure you'll have quite a bit of interest in any upcomming matings by the sound of the people around the ring!
  5. Great to see the Xoloitzcuintle's at Spring Fair today and the big crowd that came to watch. Although I loved both of them your male is just stunning.
  6. If the Thundershirt didn't work it's unlikely a tight t-shirt would. Not say you, but some people think that the Thundershirt should and will work straight away when it's actually a culmative effect.
  7. This is great. Thanks for sharing . When was this last updated? This month.
  8. Would you like to add this supplier to your list MEH (though they appear to be much the same price as Pet Supplies For You),their postage was $5 to deliver to me, but I live within 50ks. http://ovedshorseand...Control/52.html They had pretty quick delivery. Thanks for the info
  9. I've heard other people say they are difficult to get hold of and about delivery delays. We put together a document that has prices from different vendors.....Priceless Pets is not the cheapest. See here: http://www.greatdanerescue.com.au/flea_and_worming.pdf
  10. If he's killed another dog then he is a dangerous dog regardless of whether he has the offical title - he should in a containment area such as a dog run with a roof.
  11. I'm really sorry they had to say good bye. I commend them for not re-homing.
  12. Sorry, I don't encourage the re-homing of dog aggressive dogs (of any breed). What can they do? Find someone who will make sure that dog is never ever put in the situation where it cannot harm another dog.....not sure how many people are after dog aggressive dogs though.
  13. It's all about rewarding the dog in the reinforcement zone. If you're interested in her methof of training you would probably be interested in signing up for her 5 minute Recallers course that she runs.
  14. I'm not reglious.....will that matter?
  15. Bunkum. The animals in the pound system are rarely the result of well thought out breeding programs from ethical Breeders. The majority of pound and shelter animals are there because of ill informed or ignorant choices. As far as I am concerned the more well bred, carefully raised pups available for informed people to buy the better. Yes and No, even so if your theory was correct that isn't really relevant to the actual question because then you would be saying that large scale breeding operations produced offspring that was well thought out and that they were ethical.....this isn't always going to be the case. Did I perhaps mis-interpret what you were putting across?
  16. I just wanted to add that Rescue & Rehoming isn't just relevant to pounds. Great Dane Rescue NSW assisted in the re-homing of 89 Great Danes in the last financial year, I can't think of the number off the top of my head by it was definately under 20 that were a Pound situation. They did not neccessarily have pedigree papers but were Purebred, so common sense tells you that there are some not so ethical breeders that are supplying (ongoing) these other breeders that are contributing to the rescue & rehome rates. I'm not weighing in the whole discussion I'm just pointing out something that is relevant to the recent change in direction with this thread.
  17. that's trespass, etc .... is that a good idea? That's seriously your concern over the dog strangling itself?
  18. Atopic dogs are predisposed to secondary infections. My dog also frequently gets infections. Thanks for your explanation Smoothiegirl- so the diagnosis was made on the basis of negative food allergy and skin testing? Atopica (cyclosporine) is pretty expensive isn't it? They also recommend it instead of corticosteroids for atopic dogs but it is really cost prohibitive for alot of owners, especially in large breeds MEH- the list of predisposed breeds was given to me by our veterinary dermatologist. I can PM you the details if you wish to know more detail. Yes that woiuld be great, thanks. I'd love a reference link or e-mailed a clinical document if it were possible? [email protected]
  19. Which is the same problem with all tools, I'd be much more concerned with the mis-use of a Halter than a Prong.
