  1. When I had this problem the vet put my dog on a course of cortisone...it worked temporarily but the symptoms came back within a couple of days of completing the course. The vet suggested she might just have to stay on cortisone for her whole life but that isn't healthy at all! Maybe it's worth a try but I would use it as a last resort when nothing else works. Alot of dogs live their lives on Cortisone because they have no other choice. Quality of life is most important so Cortisone is usually the last choice when nothing else works.
  2. Sway from Whelping supplies sent me some to try - might be the same stuff, however you put it in the water. We didn't personaly have any success but I hear alor of Exibitors use it on coated dogs who tend to get hot. http://www.whelpingsupplies.com.au/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=341
  3. I tried it, my boys allergies were worse on it.
  4. Not heard of one but I don't think it's a good life for a dog no matter what positive spin is put on it.
  5. I haven't had one that sensitive before, although I have seen other peoples dogs become clingy when they praise it...perhaps you're rewarding it without realising?
  6. Don't diagnose aggression over the internet please.
  7. I personaly do not reccomend correcting a dog for growling at other dogs because then you teach the dog to not give any warning signalls and you'll end up with a dog that just attacks. It's best to see a Behaviourist, they will be able to help you with the relationship you have with your dog.
  8. You could avoid these dogs by putting him in the car and taking him somewhere if you want to see if this could be the problem.
  9. I dont let my dog play with other dogs, I belive to much can go wrong...in I'm conditioning my dog to be totally alloof to other dogs and people apart from me and my family. Can I ask why? Its really horses for courses, but I hope to ingrain alot of specific behaviour in my pup, and a negative experience from another dog especially an aggressive experience could make my dog "dog aggressive for the rest of its life.... Also I dont want my pup to instictivly bite someone while playing which is the normal way pups play with one another. I teach my pup to chase and play with my kids but the bite is always on a toy and never our clothes or body. I also dont want my dog to look at another dog as a source of fun.. this can lead to distraction when there is another dog around during training. I want my dog to look to me and my family for all positive experiences we are its pack and its world.. People I'm not a strict with that because my breed (Cane Corso) is normally aloof to strangers, but the goal is to make my pup neutral that is he doesnt care if people are around or not rather then look to other humens as treat depensers or pat machines.. all that stuff should come from me and my family. These are my views which I have understood from alot of the Leerburg training stuff. You don't understand Neutrallsation from the explanation you have given it. Isolating a dog is not Neutralisation.
  10. Sad isn't it. Dog doesn't learn to be a dog. One doesn't have to take the dog to a dog park to have safe interactions.
  11. Do they smell like Corn Chips? Yeast problem could be likely. Or perhaps the diet your feeding them isn't agreeing with them.
  12. I don't know why people say things like that, for some reason some people just have to suck the positvity out of things.
  13. Never too late. We're a clicker training family however our 11 year old Dane hasn't done much with it like the younger kids have and she's currently being taught to play dead via the clicker with my partner who hasn't used the clicker before and they're doing great! Clicker training isn't something only young dogs can understand, it's a method of training that all animals respond to including humans, they just call it TAGG not CLICKER.
  14. MEH do you mean the dog derms recommend it? I am using the Pyohex leave in conditioner as well. I am just looking for possible alternatives as when I last bathed him he was shaking pretty badly for a while afterwards - don't know if it was a reaction to the shampoo/conditioner. Yes, Derms are reccomending it, can't obviously say the all are but alot of people are getting the QV Shampoo reccomendation from their derms. Then follow that bath with sponging QV Bath Oil onthe the effected areas. There is an Australian Vet who works alot with Skin Allergies and he also talks about its use, I believe his website is: http://scratchingdoghelp.com He has a program which he sells an e-book on about keeping the skin hydrated.
  15. It doesn't matter if you've had the breed for 40 years, the reason for not getting littermates is the same. Good luck with them.
  16. Humman QV Shampoo and bath oil, Derms reccomend it too.
  17. Thanks heaps guys, I actually got to meet her today!
  18. People still race them, DOLers have shown piccies here of Whippet fun days where they have had races. I'm not any are bred specifically for racing though....I think it's a fun thing that they do not like an actual ongoing sport like Greyhounds?
  19. That would be slipperly when wet?
  20. Mine is a mud bath right now, I'm trying to come up with alternatives. I looked into that fancy artifical grass and it will be just under $2,000 for my 6 x 4.3m kennel.
  21. Hey Everyone, Hoping to get some reccomendations for a Trainer/Behaviourist in Brisbane/Surfers area. Thanks
  22. That's a pretty powerful dog. Trying to justify it with stating the size of the dog doesn't make sense to me. It's not your concern why they had their Police Dog with them....a Police Dog is a Police Officer.
  23. The Police dog is a Police Officer so has the same rights as a Human one, so yes they should have shot the attacking dog imo.
