  1. I don't think you can do anything apart from Surgery?
  2. If they can't afford those other expenses can they actually afford the dog? Are they just dreaming?
  3. Really simple.....don't let her. Do not let her out of you sight whilst she's inside and then take her out every 30 minutes whilst you're home and awake and give her the toileting cue and then praise when she does it. If the problem is usual and persists, see your Vet.
  4. I know - I am extremely paranoid as well!!! And I am terrified of bloat - I didn't realise feeding too much also gave them bloat? I thought it was more about exercising excessively right before or after they eat because of the large intakes of breath they take? Just to note, neither jenna nor max scoffs their food - they are incredibly slow eaters! but thank you for your advice! Ok, there are a 100's of myths of what 'causes Bloat. I have deep chested breed so I've heard them all as well. You're not feeding TOO MUCH if your dog is not fat. Deep chested breeds should be fed twice a day and eat slowly, if they don't then you provide their feed in an interactive toy or BrakeBowl to slow them them down. Exercising after meals is actually GOOD i.e. walking helps with digestions. Running around and high intensity exercise is not reccomend for 30-60 minutes before or after meals for deep chested breeds. Don't be extremely paranoid about Bloat, that's not the way to live. Kow the signs, have Degas pills on hand and know how to get to your Emergency Vet.
  5. I marinate steak with Garlic for 2 days and then cook......only for Dante's drive training! For non drive training he pretty much works for anything meat or diary. The puppy gets unmarinated steak, devon, cheese, dried sardenes. The oldie gets anything that resembles food which she thinks is awesome. For puppy school take HEAPS of whatever you choose to go with, keep in mind Cheese can upset puppy tummies if given loads of. I'd also reccomend a mix of items in the bag so puppy doesn't get bored of just the same reward each time.
  6. You don't know that, the dog could be active/nervy/fast metab/digestion issues/underlaying problem. If the dog is fat then yes it's too much food.
  7. oh really? goodness, well I am feeding her say about 3 cups of food, twice a day? *cringe* oh s**t you're going to tell me Im feeding her too much arent you?? If you're feeding too much your dog will be fat....each dog is different and has different needs....what it says on the pack is a guide. If your dogs isn't doing well on this kibble then you might want to look at adding a digestive enzyme or switching foods. It is fine to go to an adult food, even Giant Breed pups can be raised on Adult kibbles granted the protein/phos/calc is appropriate. You don't have to spend a fortunate on Kibble, some dogs don't actually do well on Premimum kibbles, some do fantastic on Bonnie and Optimum....put/keep your dog on whatever it does best on. I have personaly heard a lot of people say Supercoat gives their dogs the runs and some people rave about it......like any other feed some dogs do well and others don't.
  8. If the website says 2 then it is 2.....whether or not they enforce that is a different sorry.
  9. Stumbled on these this morning, probably absolute crap... http://www.topbuy.com.au/tbcart/pc/Large-Size-Portable-6-Weave-Poles-Dog-Agility-Training-Set-25M-Long-80cm-High-For-Big-Dog-p31603.htm
  10. If she doesn't need one then you don't need one?
  11. No flames from me.. its one of a few breeds I am cautious around.. they are what they are. Its their owners more than anything that provoke caution.. they are the biggest unknown. Same here. My fear agro dog (who is always on lead) will get nervy around them for some reason. Sadly the park we used to go to people would turn with up with over excited staffies and just let them loose.
  12. People are just used to seeing fat labs. If the dog has cover over it's ribs then it's not too skinny.
  13. All dogs are allowed to tell other dogs off for inappropriate behaviours i.e. a growl or air snap etc.....these are warnings and if you repremand a warning then you can end up with a dog that doesn't give a warning and that's not a positive thing! Please report the instance in-case of the owner of the Husky does not.
  14. It took years to bond with my current 4 year old male, mainly because of his health and temperment issues. I have a pup now who I bonded with straight away. I have a rescue dog who I got as anadult who I bonded with the moment I stepped into her dog pen at the shelter.
  15. I recently watched a vet video that says that the shampoos (decent ones) we have these days allows for regular washing and that washing dogs with skin problems is one of the most under utlised tools to assist them, some dogs need washing or rinsing every couple of days to keep them comfortable. They pretty much say if your dog is smelly and/or uncomfortable in its own skin then it needs a bath.
  16. http://www.etsy.com/category/pets/tag go there, there are heaps of that style and much cheaper.
  17. I have 3 reccomendations in no particular order. Craig Murray who I believe is out in Cow Pasture Road now and does home visits: 0408 113 874 Luci Ellem who is in Austral and you'd go out to her: (02) 9606 9454, she does one on ones and is also starting up her obedience classes over the next couple of weeks. Steve at K9 Pro who does both home visits and at his location: http://www.k9pro.com.au/

    Barking Complaints

I think your first step is to see if they are being honest or over dramatic. Speak to other neighbours, set up a video camera, recorder etc.
  19. The first time my dog was in the ring when he was a baby puppy we got a friend to handle him, he was naughty but nothing shocking and the 70+ year old Judge threatened to throw him out of the ring!
  20. So sorry and thank you for trying your best to help this little guy. Another Angel you know...
  21. Hi Guys, An update, I sent soem techniques over to the owner to try for at least a week and the dog has now ceased howling and carrying on, so looks like dog will be staying put and owner continuing to work on appropriate behaviours WOOT!
  22. I vote for conditioning them to be a part. i.e. take one on lead and open the door, close the door and treat both, next time, open door take one outside, coome back in and treat both....over time get further and further away. If you do it over a weekend you might be suprised at how much you can accomplish. Also have a look at a DVD called Crate Games.
