  1. My heart just dropped the second i saw the title of this thread I am so so sorry Kirty. Taken way too soon. I loved seeing pictures of him My thoughts are with you and your family x
  2. I wasn't intending to be judgemental just in case it came across that way. I was simply surprised! Its the first time i haven't had an owner stay, and not something i considered common as i could never do that after years of owning my pets. Made worse as it was such a stark contrast to the one a few days earlier who's family came into the lobby and sat with him on the floor whilst feeding him oodles of treats and favourite foods! Not going to lie, that turned me into a crying mess for a few mins out the back I did as much as a stranger could I have always wondered about this too. Or it's not worth paying to get them out because they are too old or too ill, or it's cheaper for the pound to put them down. Probably some from column A and some from column B. That i would judge people for.. Probably not true for all dogs, But she did do that too- watched her owner leave It was heartbreaking. I felt so sorry for the poor thing.
  3. I work in a vet clinic, and last night we had the unfortunate task of euthanising a dog. She was a 16yr old Aussie terrier. And her owner dropped her off and just walked away. I was very surprised. After living with them for 16 years her owner couldn't even stay with her in her final moments, she was scared of the vets, and now alone! Its just not something i could ever do to my dogs, as hard as it would be to stay. Would you leave?
  4. I thought my idiot dog was the only dog that would do this!
  5. They can :) Its not a common practice though.
  6. So the question is- what did she get for her birthday :D
  7. Recently in my statistic class, we learnt that in 2007 there were 4 nicholas cage movies released, compared to one or none other years, and in that year there were 100 more drownings. Therefore, obviously Nicholas cage movies cause drownings. The point of it was to not trust statistics entirely because they can be spun however you want. I would be more likely to assume that these dogs are owned by people who fail to manage and train their dogs correctly, and therefore don't wish to spend money on desexing, leading to these untrained dogs biting and happening to have testicles...
  8. Yes, agreed. If he is eating, but just not entirely finishing his food, i wouldnt worry. Some dogs are very good at knowing how much food they need and wont overeat :) He is likely just in a slow growth period and requires less food. So just keep offering it to him at meal times, keep an eye on his demeanour, weight and stools and you should be fine :)
  9. I dont like this at all and will be very disappointed if the other states follow. Though i m pretty safe to assume QLD wont because it doesn't like to follow anything (daylight savings etc.) Desexing is illegal in Norway, and they do not have the issues we do. I would much rather this than mandatory desexing! I dont see why everyone has to suffer because of idiots who fail to manage (not letting them mate) or train (not letting them hump or mark) their dogs correctly. Plus no one is going to care about the extra registration, those who flaunt the law now will continue to do so.. Their money is better spent elsewhere, but of course they would never admit that the laws they have dont work to begin with.
  10. Week 40: My Backyard jacaranda is flowering, and i love it :D
  11. Sorry to hear about Cookie Theres no way of keeping the dog off your property? Then if they continue to just let it roam at large it wont be impacting you. I do think its good the ranger is coming out, at least to tell them to keep their dog contained.
  12. Happy birthday Didi! She is gorgeous :) (And very shiny! )
  13. Birthdays here too :D Insert obligatory photos of dogs in hats. Todd, my cat, i do not know his actual birthday, but we made one up to celebrate each year based on how old he was estimated to be when i had him desexed.
  14. I...can't imagine what the person was thinking taking it IN to the park? Outside on the other side of the fence to work on training and desensitisation etc sure, but IN the park?! Side note, I wish more parks would have a divided small dog and big dog area. I get so worried watching people's little dogs run around, especially in the busier parks where it can go from running around to everyone fighting and little ones could get trod on or squashed Myself, I have not been going to any onlead areas (or even most streets) because no matter what time of day someone is breaking the law with their offlead dog and ruining it for the rest of us I agree with this to a point. But having little dogs, the little dog areas are TINY! Just because the dogs are small doesnt mean they dont want a large area to sniff nd run around in
  15. Kokoda will scratch a sandpaper board, he seems to use mostly his toes and i haven't noticed any pad wearing :)
  16. So... Maybe if I rig up an elaborate pulley system to tug her bed without leaving my bed will decrease the number of slurping parties? ;) Poor pup getting a tummy rash Perhaps one of these could reach towards her and give her a poke
  17. Ugh. DOnt get me started. I cant stand teh sound of licking, dogs drinking, humans eating etc. It all drives me mad. Henry is the WORST! His bits, his feet, just his belly. He licks everything. All the time. And i swear on days i am more irritable he does it closer to me Kokoda tries to lick his feet really really slowly, whilst looking at me because he knows i hate it. Thankfully he never really licks his bits around me as he always gets interrupted, so he goes away to do that
  18. Kokoda is like this, he loves to dig. Occasionally in the yard, occasionally whilst out walking. He gets PLENTY of exercise, and mental stimulation too. He just loves to dig
  19. Everyone thinks Kokoda is a girl.. The blue lead still doesnt help that
  20. Thanks - for the first several times, he'll go to a professional. After some research/maybe doing a short course, I'll give it a go! Sounds like a good idea. Its a practice makes perfect thing really! The first few times i did my own dogs they looked terrible But then people started asking me where i got them done. Then i started a professional grooming business
  21. Excellent choice :) They are great dogs. I suggest buying a set of clippers, or finding a good groomer near you
  22. From what I have read golden paste is OK long term. It's Turmeric supplements with like 95% curcumin extract which is not great long term. yes, a 3-5% curcumin content, which is what you get from typical ground/dry turmeric is ok long term :)
  23. I have a lot of dog tags. But they never wear collars anyway ETA: a few do go on their harnesses.
  24. Oh dear.. I asked, Chris said in all the years she has worked at the clinic she has only seen 3 bone related incidents all were good in the end also. All from either cooked lamb or cooked chicken bones. So you should be ok!
