  1. Yes, i would ask for a script and get direct from a chemist. I would say the vet is charging a bit extra ontop of the drug cost. We charge $9.90 at our vet to give scripts to take to chemists, and each one has 3 repeats. Usually always works out cheaper :)
  2. They definitely know my dogs. Henry is attacked every time, Barney (who people even confuse with Henry) is always left alone. All because Henry chased it once! And they like me because they see me put out the dog food, but not other people who walk past :D
  3. Excellent photos! My cat really would love one. He loves fluffy things
  4. I was going to suggest this, but haven't felt one in person. But they just look so luxurious!
  5. I love some of them, i saw them at the ADAA grand prix last year, but i too was worried about them going flat. I dont have one, but did see a picture of a friends one on facebook that was looking a bit flattened and worse for wear. Though in its defence i dont know how old it could be. The fluffiness appeals to me, and i imagine my cats would LOVE it! Re the Henry Hotties, they are currently trialling one with sides! I have also been waiting for one. And have also used one in an old bed i had. But also found they didnt really care as much as i thought they did and would still go for the HH Its the only bed Henry will choose over the couch or my bed, so they must be ok. My fuzzyard beds, though i love the patterns they come in, and the fluffy donut shapes- really dont last at all! Within a few months the dogs are pretty much lying on the floor. And no clue of the brand, but I have another bed i love. It was cheap and has lasted so well! Wish i knew what it was  A friend has a bed for her big mutt, will ask the brand, also has lovely high walls :)
  6. I have many of these and love them :D The covers are easy to wash. And i made a few covers myself too to swap around. And i use the beds myself when i sit on the floor to brush the dogs They are in most states now and so far have lasted a good few years no loss of comfiness of thickness. Touch wood! They are Sydney based. Thats what i thought and why i didnt suggest them!
  7. I love many many breeds. So this goes for just my currently owned breed (which also will hopefully have an addition in the next few years of another :D ) Cavs- their health issues. Thats the worst. So many things can go wrong! Touch wood mine have been ok so far. But i hate having to worry. And their ability to make you feel terrible about: leaving them, not feeidng them, not patting them etc with those damn big eyes! I hear this often, but mine barely shed And i have 5 in the house at the moment...
  8. Haven't noticed anything in Deniki or Koda, but Henry has been much more active since being on it :) He has a dodgy spine and hips. But this does seem to make him feel better! Its relatively inexpensive and easy to do, so i will continue adding it. Unfortunately he isnt one of the dogs who will eat it straight from the spoon, so it gets creatively mixed into things
  9. Interesting! That makes sense. I was assuming it was the normal bone growth thing. But that is nice to know :)
  10. I think you made the best call, given the infection is showing no improvement. Hope it all goes well :) Now he will look American!
  11. Its hard to know if they are my yard or just the streets around! But i think for a little extra piece of mind i will look into spraying and see if there is any suitable products. We do have a lot of possums. Could easily be the issue.
  12. Some excellent suggestions and points in here, i have nothing new to add except to say thank you for doing your research and asking questons! So good to see a responsible, caring owner who wants the best for their future dog. I can tell already that your dog will be a lucky one!
  13. Just a warning. Ticks are back here in Brisbane, so am assuming along the eastern coast also. Found a paralysis tick on Deniki's head yesterday. All was good, doesn't look like it had been there long, and he shows no ill effects at the moment (still keeping an eye on him though). Once again, it was just in my yard or from our walk around the block. No recent bushwalks etc. And remember no preventative is 100% effective and nothing beats a search! Anyone ever do a yard spray? I am considering it given i have had two dogs with paralysis ticks in 4 months from what i think is just my yard. But don't know how effective it is.
  14. When Kokoda was the only dog i onwed we were part of a dog park group. It was great. Kokoda loved Harvey the Westie x poodle and Amber the vizsla- Who stayed with us alot too when her owners went away. It was great. But we would go earlier than the average jo. And now i have moved to a different area where people seem a little less dog savvy and more "let them run free while i chat"
  15. Noone is starting on anything . The poster just spoke about an experience she had with a certain type of dog. Out of interest, the most feral attack on our dogs was by a SWF, second worst a Husky and third, a Bulldog. Doesn't mean I have an issue with any of those those/breeds, just how it is. Exactly :) Thanks Dame Aussie. No clue what breed or x she was, just black, small and fluffy. In this situation, as i intended it, it is literally no different to me saying "black labrador."
  16. Glad i am not alone  Oh its not just the SWF's! The past few offenders ahve been cockers, a labradoodle, and an amstaff x boxer according to the owner.. but this small black dog ruined my park trip two days ago, which is why i brought this one up, Not all SWF's are annoying, i amvery aware. But this one was!
  17. I'm sorry but this is exactly the reason I don't go to dog parks. I couldn't think of anything worse than having my dog humped, herded or harassed or chased. perhaps you should try making games with YOU more fun than letting him run self reward on other dogs. It'll make your life easier in the long run. Yep. Me too. Deniki is targeted for humping quite often and just stands there and takes it. Even though you can tell it stresses him. And i have developed a very low tolerance to it now. And if you didnt show any effort of stopping him the second your dog started, and then made an effort to keep him away from mine, your dog would be thrown off by me. I would move away also, but so often owners just let their idiotic dogs follow. Had to leave a dog park the other day because of "Esme" the SWF (but black..) being a PITA. And it's not really fair that my 4 dogs couldnt enjoy the park because of the one crazy who's owner was not doing anything.
  18. I haven't had to deal with this issue personally, but have seen people who tape the tail to the dogs leg, or wrap it around their side in a stocking etc. to give it a chance to heal. Not sure how you have bandaged it, but maybe worth looking into?
  19. Not sure if you mean a first aid kit, or more of an escape kit. I made one of the latter when we almost flooded, but have since unpacked it :) In it i had: First aid kit which was quite well stocked!, bowls, food for a few days, water, leash and collar, a blanket, photocopies of vaccs, registrations etc. There must have been more because it filled up a large container, but thats all i can remember right now.. In the first aid kit, something useful to have is puppy pee pads. Super absorbent, can be used for a variety of reasons in a pinch :) on, or under an injured animal. Vetwrap, thermometre, the usual bandages, saline solution, tweezers, an antihistamine, instant cold and heat packs etc.
  20. It wasn't where i worked. My goodness some of those dogs BARKED. Nonstop. I love dogs but it drove me mad
  21. Yes, i would take the bowl away if he leaves it. A healthy dog won't starve itself, so don't worry too much :) And puppies will go through stages of growth looking thin, fat, long, short, tall etc! And often eating coincides with these points. What i would suggest is if he is getting a lot of them, get a treat that is a whole food in itself. Maybe consult with your vet re protein levels: but ziwipeak, those dog meats from woolies (chunkers etc.) so that he is still getting a balanced food. Or use his food as the treats, depending on how much he likes it. If he isn't eating it all, he may just not need that much. Each dog is an individual, and the guidelines on the bag are exactly that- just guidelines. ETA: My sisters pup is a tad fussy, but loves eating his biscuits when they are scattered on the lawn. could eat the whole bag like that
  22. I only go to dog parks (like the enclosed fenced kind) at obscure times of the day when there are either no dogs or people like me with dogs that don't care for others. I avoid "dog o'clock" which is before work, and the evening from 5. It gets so busy and dangerous IMO. Off leash areas like parks and beaches i do go to often though :)
  23. Ive never had this issue, but definitely ask what he was being fed, and what are you feeding now? And what has your vet recommended? Some info here: http://www.greatdane...ckling_over.htm He is super cute :)
