Personally, I think that pets should be desexed. Whether it be cats, dogs, rabbits or ferrets. Because if there is a situation where there could be an 'opps' moment. And then suddenly there's a litter that you're partly responsible for, a litter that could have been easily avoided. There's also that dogs will do anything they can to get to a bitch in heat, some (debatable) increased risk of prostate related diseases amongst other factors. It's also much cheaper to register a nutured dog over it's lifetime, compared to an entire dog. ($43/year in Brisbane compared to $125) I feel it's a worthy investment to make..

A Follow On Thread For Those Who Now Have Their Puppy
Taliecat replied to julesluvscavs's topic in Puppy Chat
It is! I believe I'm up to the third pair at the moment, plus a bra, a sandal, a play station controller, the fly screen from the back door. I'm sure at least half a dozen socks have vanished (can't pin it on either dog, might actually be the washing machine) and there was also a tomato sauce bottle that was lifted from the pantry.. I love them to bits but they definitely require very close supervision :p Especially around aforementioned incredibly tasty items! -

So.. Our pup Dozer, is definitely the OH'S dog.. He knows how to bust open the bedroom door (and quietly at that) if it's not latched completely. My sixth sense that he was doing something he shouldn't be went off.. Checked the usual places first, bathroom, housemates room and then I see the open bedroom door. The little cherub was settled down nomming away at my favorite pair of undies -_-.. Do they ever grow out of stealing socks, bras or undies? -
Holistic Select And Blackhawk
Taliecat replied to fluff1234's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
There's a small gap in ages between my two. We stopped feeding puppy branded kibble at around 5 months with our youngest and switched to canedae then black hawk fish and potato. Apart from our two eating like horses, they do well on the black hawk and our pup is continuing to grow at a good pace, without the massive spurts that we saw on the puppy specific food. -
Poor pup. I work in Brisbane cbd, yesterday we found a dog that looked very similar to this one wandering around the city, listed with the council as a labx. I was so relieved when we the boys got in contact with his owner and he didn't get picked up by the council

Yes! Where the eff does the dirt go?! In my yard all the dirt piles up in front of the gate.. it was once a concrete path -_- -
I watched part of it, I'll have to leave the rest of it for my day off tomorrow. From what I did see I was glued to the screen. The salukis were very beautiful..

Aww, she's beautiful! Rose is a lovely name.

At the moment two is my maximum. Managing dynamics and squabbles of two young dogs is enough for me right now. Especially since these are our first dogs that are ours, not family dogs. If/when we retire and have a nice big property, we'd like to get into showing, more involved with dog sports and possibly breed if we can ever agree on a breed. (He wants bull terriers, I want salukis) But at the moment two is more than a handful

Weird Stuff Your Dog Is Frightened Of
Taliecat replied to apocalypsepwnie's topic in General Dog Discussion
Lucy is a funny one. She's scared of balloons (they chase her? The OH sneakily picked up a valentines day pressie while on a walk with the dogs and tied the balloon to Dozers collar, who happily walked home with it bobbing behind him, freaked her out though), any bag of the plastic persuasion UNLESS they have treats in them, then it's the equivalent of a dinner bell. Also afraid of the nozel part of the vacuum cleaner, but only when it's not attached to the vacuum. She's also afraid of the empty frying pan, but it's okay if there's food in it -
Thank you so much for posting that I've been pondering how to help my own greyhound mix.

When dozer had the cone of shame (so in the 10 or so days after) on he had a few accidents in the house, which he hadn't done in months.. We just put it down to him feeling a little out of sorts. It didn't happen again once he was feeling better.
-
We kept the cone of shame on our boy for all 10 days when he was desexed bar about three hours where he was under very close supervision. He was pretty miserable in it for the first couple of days and then spent the remaining week and a bit joyfully ramming the cone into the backs of our legs and learnt how to use it to tip things over to get food.

Oh my. I think my cackling with laughter has disrupted the quiet Sunday morning in my neighbourhood
-
My two are epic bed hogs and have been banished from the bed until I swap the double for the queen in the spare room. Apparently two tall adults and two 25kg+ dogs just don't fit in a double bed. My number one hate however, is that Lucy somehow knows the exact moment I've slipped back into the land of the living, and will proceed to smother me with kisses.

Bahasa hahaha. .. I'm literally still laughing.

My two loved the VI grain free, but our girl wasn't doing too well on it, very poor coat condition, very dull and excessive amounts of her coat was snapping off.. Switched the both of them to black hawk fish and potato two weeks ago and I've never seen them look better. Lovely glossy coats, reduced doggy smell with our boy and now every item of clothing I own (the majority of it black) is covered with a small amount of white fur instead of being coated in a thick layer.

Pending weather I'll be down there in an unrelated trip with my am staff and greyhound-bitsa.. So if you do venture down I'll be more than happy to be a dane admirer with you.

So beautiful. I have no idea why I'm crying. .

One of our friends at the dog park mentioned there was a date meet up down the Spit this Sunday morning (2nd Feb) from about 8am! So it might be an opportunity to meet some owners and get lots of cuddles ^_^ Eta: forgot to put the date in

Best/ Worst Dog Treats And Chews
Taliecat replied to JenniCB's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
We won't touch rawhide after our boy as a baby puppy ended up throwing up chunks of rawhide that he couldn't digest. For chews bully sticks are a favourite, there's a guy who sells huge ones down at one of the local markets for cheap-ish. For training treats I'll use cheese or the natures gift little chewy treats, although with lucy I could probably get away with using just about anything that comes from the kitchen except zucchini.. -
We've fed canidae- fish and VIP grainfree. The canade my two had terrible gas and condition wasn't too good on VIP. Have just changed them over to black hawk. So hopefully they do well on it.
-
At the moment City Farmers have a sale on black hawk. $92 for 20kg Fish and potato $86 for 20kg Lamb and chicken varieties. I know I was pretty stoked to get a huge bag today for that cheap. So I thought I'd share ^_^

Do Your Dogs Watch T.v. (videos, Etc.)
Taliecat replied to sandgrubber's topic in General Dog Discussion
Both dogs used to go nuts when they heard whimpering from the ad for haunted... Now they ignore that ad, but will perk up at any show that has dogs. Our girl will be especially interested if there's puppies crying and seems slightly distressed that she can't find them.
