Older but not old. Both should have had many more years. My Zena was just 9 and yes it does hurt. It’s been 12 months for us but some days it still hits me and I miss my girl so much.

Omg. I can so relate to some of those. No teacup mini schnauzers also. !!! And yes, don’t I now know about Lhasa Apsos. Although I could definitely think of other names !!! And as for bad matting. I will be talking to the Lhasa Apsos owners as that did not occur on my watch!!!

So saddened to hear about your losses. 2 in one day would have been terrible. I think we all underestimate how our fur babies affect us. It takes to lose them that you finally figure it out. When we lost Zena it bought that message home clearly and now Molly and any future fur babies will not be taken for granted as their time with us can be too short. How old were your fur friends? Your Zoe looks like such a softy. A sweetie. Take care.

Such a beautiful looking dog.

New puppy arriving in 10 days - Would love advice on managing first night
Kazm replied to puppylovefor3's topic in Puppy Chat
She’s a little cutie. Sweet name. Lucky people. -
Very tired but not desperate. Just honestly have never had a dog behave like this one. We have others here all the time and never have problems. Just taking a bit to sort him out but plan b seems to be working. This dog should have been tired enough. We have a huge back yard and Molly was running zoomies with him on and off during the day. I also spend a lot of time outside making sure they are kept busy and not bored. I always have ball games but that’s where things differ. This guy doesn’t even know how to play fetch and as for hiding food etc I don’t think it would work as I called him for a treat this morning and I dropped it as he came to me and he literally walked on it. He certainly hasn’t got a schnauzers nose for food.

Yes this is about the dog I’ve mentioned in other threads. I totally get why he is behaving like this. Even though his first night was perfect. He has been here before and was ok then. No problems. It just isn’t about the night yapping. I believe we now may have that sorted. It’s about his whole behaviour. Seeing him with his owner and how she was with him shows lack of basic training. I have dogs staying with us very frequently and these others all know my house rules and behave accordingly. I just had one little guy here a week ago and he was exceptional. His last stay was over a year ago. But it was as if he remembered. And as for the toileting issue, this dog is well over 12 months old and his owner still gives him treats if he actually pees outside. To me this is ridiculous. Sorry if I offend anyone but that’s just my opinion.

Thanks boronia. Very nice of you to offer but at this stage I will leave it. Still working on options. Plan B for Oreo is in place tonight and fingers crossed we all sleep well. But thanks anyway. I do appreciate it.

Just wondering if anyone has had success with using barking collars and if so what would be the best type and brand ?

New puppy arriving in 10 days - Would love advice on managing first night
Kazm replied to puppylovefor3's topic in Puppy Chat
The thing to remember is that they are highly intelligent and learn very quickly. So training is quite a breeze. And are just totally lovable. They love their family and need to be included in everything. A pure delight to own. Personally I can’t see me ever having any other breed. A new little girl for you. That’s so sweet. -

Would love to see some photos when your mini pup arrives. I have always had mini schnauzers. Currently just have one beautiful little girl. I am very biased and think they are just the greatest. Good luck with your new arrival. -
Jwt, I can understand you wanting a dog. They are great company and a fine addition to any family. But they are a lifelong commitment and they do require a certain amount of attention, money and training. A dog is not just a possession to be bought out when you want, it’s a new family member and in my opinion you can’t just shut it away when you can’t be bothered by it. My dogs are involved in every aspect of our life. That’s why we got a small dog breed. Because it suits us. I realise you are trying to work out what suits your family but if you can’t work and continue on life as you are without locking a dog away for a few hours each day then I don’t think a dog is right for you. I know a lot of dogs are locked outside all day while owners work but it’s really not fair on them and that’s why I think some people just have a dog for the sake of having one. Most dogs in my opinion love to be with the family and should be trained to have manners so they can be around all the time. My dogs have always just sat quietly if we are doing things that don’t concern them but if we are busy doing household things then they run about and follow us and yes they are very good company. I would be very concerned about your child. If you were to get a young puppy then the child would need proper supervision and if it took a year to “ not squish “ guinea pigs then how long will it take to not hurt the puppy. Puppies also have very sharp teeth and your son may not appreciate a puppy chewing on his fingers etc. and this may lead to him hurting the puppy. If you were to get an older dog then unless it’s used to such treatment from a child it may hurt him. You have already returned one dog because it didn’t suit your needs. How many times can you do that? And as for a cat, well I wouldn’t go there as most cats that I know do not tolerate nonsense and they have very sharp claws that will hurt. I wish you all the luck with whatever you decide but a few years down the track when your son is older and more understanding might be a better option.

So sorry to hear of Oscars passing. Such a sad time for you all. My thoughts are with you.

Crocodile eats beloved terrier that had spent a decade taunting it
Kazm replied to Tempus Fugit's topic in In The News
Totally agree with you. Poor dog. Stupid owner. Pity the next dog he owns. -
Molly is only allowed to bark/chase the black and white peewees. We have a bird feeder that attracts a lot of lorikeets and king parrots and she knows better than to bark at those. I’m so glad she can distinguish between them, but then peewees have such an awful voice.

Thanks everyone for all the useful info so far. I shall let my brother know all of your knowledge.

My brother currently owns a brindle English staffy who is getting on in years. Still acts like a pup at times and has no health issues but talking with my brother on the weekend he knows when Diesel passes he will get another and has already been looking at breeders. He has his mind set that he would like a blue one next time. Just wondering if they have any issues. His very first staffy went blind at 4 months of age and on the recommendation of the breeders vet was pts. The breeder did look after my brother and gave him another pup. The current Diesel. He is now 12 years old.

Experiences/advice for buying a puppy from interstate?
Kazm replied to GreenLego's topic in General Dog Discussion
My experience in buying a dog interstate turned out to be the best ever. We were after a mini schnauzer and at the time there weren’t too many in Qld that we could find. We couldn’t get to see the pups but the breeder sent me photos and as I was the first to contact her we had pick of the litter. We chose our little girl Zena and couldn’t have asked for a better dog. Those who are regulars know we had to give her her wings last year but she honestly was a great girl. Great temperament and suited our family perfectly. -
Just for fun - How does your dog react to its birthday
Kazm posted a topic in General Dog Discussion
Over the years with our different schnauzers I have always made a fuss of them on their special day. Zena absolutely loved birthdays and Christmas and would eagerly await her gifts. It was Mollys 7th birthday last Sunday and I swear she knew and my gosh she had a brilliant day. We were camping so it was already special. She was so funny and that’s why I thought of starting this thread and seeing what others did. Molly started the day with a home made dog biscuit and then later I gave her gifts to unwrap. She started unwrapping them herself and found a small chewy dental treat. She then stood with it in her mouth staring at me and then suddenly she took off running down the bush track. I followed. She then headed into some bushes and tried to hide her treat. Naturally with me watching she wasn’t happy leaving it so she tried a few more bushes but eventually took it back to the campsite where she took the plastic wrapper off it and proceeded to eat it. Once she finished eating it she then continued to unwrap the rest of her gifts. One was a long pink bunny, great for tug of war games. She was so excited and run about like crazy. Made me so happy to see her appreciateing everything. More treats as the day wore on plus a few bush walks and multiple soccer games that she instigated. She was one very happy little girl. -
Trouble is only 12... inoperable tumour... grrr!
Kazm replied to tdierikx's topic in General Dog Discussion
I believe Pickles may well be working it all out. My Molly used to sniff Zena all over and would spend most of her days close by her. At times it felt like I had no dogs. I have since thought a lot about it and I think they can tell when the other is sick and somehow I reckon it helped Molly get through the passing of Zena. The days after, Molly was quiet and would look for her but she certainly didn’t mope about as much as I thought she would. I think you have to give the animals a lot of credit. They know more than we think they do. I might be nuts but that’s my opinion. -
We have had to make the decision on 3 of our animals. 1 cat and 2 dogs. None were sedated first and all done with the same vet. Puss, who was 18 and never been to the vet for anything other than desexing was just given the final injection. I think she was so sick she didn’t care. Wasn’t stressed or fussing at all. She passed very quickly and peacefully. Both our dogs, were just given the one injection too. We weren’t offered any sedation for them but I knew they could be if I wanted it but I figured one less needle while they were sick. Neither dog was stressed or anxious. They knew where they were and I believe they knew help was on its way. Our male dog had cancer and was very sick. He didn’t move all day. We waited for the kids to come home from school and my OH home from work so we could all be with him. As we turned into the vets driveway my boy stood up and had the biggest goofiest grin on his face. My OH and I looked at each other and wondered if we were doing the right thing. He passed very quickly with us all there for him. Our little girl, who passed last year, also acknowledged where she was. She had cancer too and was in a bad way, but she loved visiting the “Dr Man “ and as we got near she let out a tiny yap, as if to say, ‘ I know where we are’. She too passed very quickly. Peacefully with my OH and myself talking to her the whole time. We knew it could have happened at our home but we made the decision not too as I just don’t think I could have handled it. Being at the vets, yes we were upset but somehow you hold it together until you get back home. Then you fall apart. Either way it’s tough and each to their own.

Sorry to hear Nash has finally gone. At least it sounds like he went peacefully and on his own terms. And now he is able to run free from pain. My thoughts are with you.

You could try the Greater Springfield Veterinary Hospital at Augustine Heights Very nice friendly staff and are open from 7am - 10pm every day. I will admit I have only used them a couple of times but they treat you and your pet very nicely and seem very thorough. Or you could try Redbank Plains Veterinary surgery in Harris St Bellbird Park. I have used this surgery for about 20 years. Our original vet passed away a few years back but if you ask to see Dr Dan you can’t go wrong.

I once had someone come to buy a puppy from me ( purebred mini schnauzer) and they tried asking for a cheaper price. I stood firm telling them that there were “schnoodles” advertised for more than my purebreds were. They bought my puppy and we are good friends now. Personally I hate seeing cross breeds selling for more than a purebred.
