This situation is only going to get worse as the disease progresses. You are just delaying the inevitable. It's a tortured situation for the dog and your family.

Imuran was the other drug used for my dog's MM. It is an immune suppressing drug used to treat various auto immune diseases in dogs.

One of my Giants had Masticatory Myositis. He was diagnosed at around age 4 and lived until 10 and a half. He died from something unrelated to the MM. He was on daily predisone for life. Starting with a high dose and gradually tapering the dose down. He was also on another Chemo drug that I can't remember the name of. This was around 12 years ago so there may be other drugs available now to treat this condition. The only way it affected my dog was in his jaw which made it a bit more tenuous for him to eat. He could eat kibble and softer foods quite well.

Could it be one of the medications that makes her unsettled.

Just came back from my Vet a couple of days ago. My dog has KC. He didn't have a temp. but was coughing all night with bits of mucus as well. Vet gave him codeine. We gave him 2 tablets on 1st night . Next day we gave him 2 tabs in the morning & 2 at night. Now back to 2 at night & the cough is almost gone. He is a 50kg dog. Vet said it could take up to 10-14 days to get rid of the KC.

You could ring your Vet & ask what Crematorium they use. You could then ring the Crematorium & ask whether they do individual cremations. If not then google Pet Crematoriums in NSW & enquire from them what procedures they use & whether they would do an individual cremation for your dog. Better to enquire beforehand as it's very distressing on the day when you PTS. And there could be a lot going on at your Vets meaning you might compromise on something you normally wouldn't have. Check with the Vet's receptionist beforehand They are usually well informed re these matters.

I usually make an appt. with the Vet after they close or near closing or at a quiet time so other clients don't see me crying & ask questions. My Vet arranges the cremation etc & I usually pay when I pick up the urn/box of ashes which is usually a week later. This means I can leave the clinic quickly without becoming even more distressed. The receptionist usually explains what is available etc in the way of urns & boxes etc.

No. Often we just ring & ask for a repeat & pick it up from the vet free of charge. We also get scripts for vet medication from our vet & have them filled at Petceutics etc. It's half the price the vet charges.

We get scripts from our vet to be filled at the chemist all the time. It's much cheaper than buying from the vet. The only problem we had was with Chemist Warehouse who insisted the script be hand written. So we don't use them. Other chemists will accept typed script with hand written signature. When you get the script check with the vet if you need any repeats added to it to save you going back to the vet.

I don't know whereabouts you are in NSW but you could try All Natural Vet at Five Dock, Sydney. They do Chinese Medicine plus Alternative therapies for dogs with cancer. I'm a big dog person but I've met some lovely small Havanese dogs. They were absolutely delightful. Maybe one of these would be right for you.

Here in Sydney we have the Small Animal Specialist Hospital ( SASH) for pets. They have oncologists that specialise in canine cancer and they have a vaccine for Lymphoma. Perhaps if you rang SASH ( 02 9889 0289) they could recommend a cancer specialist in Victoria. Google Cancer Specialists for dogs in Melbourne and there should be something similar to SASH. If you had cancer you would be seeing a oncologist not a GP. The same applies to your dog. All the best for your dog. I have had 1 Giant with Lymphoma but that was 16 years ago. I think they have made some progress with the disease since then.

Small Animal Specialist Hospital @ North Ryde have a special vaccine for Lymphoma. Whilst I was attending there for one of my dogs one of the other dog owners with an Afghan Hound told me he his dog had been receiving this treatment & was still going well 3 years later. My old Giant Schnauzer had Melanoma in the mouth. Local vet removed it & gave the dog 3 months to live. We took her to SASH for the Melanoma vaccine she lived cancer free for another 4 plus years. It was something entirely different that finished her. If you are going to get treatment for the dog you have to act quickly before the cancer spreads to the lungs etc.

I have had an email from SASH saying they are still operating 24/7 & have no Covid 19 diagnosed at their premises. They are also doing doing phone consults . 02 9889 0289. Maybe ring ring them & ask what your boss could give Scarlett for the pain. Perhaps panadol or codeine? If that is on hand you could check the doseage depending on dogs weight with SASH. I don't think I would be going back to the vet that caused the problem.

Our emergency vet is the Small Animals Specialist Hospital aka SASH at North Ryde Sydney. I don't know where you are in NSW but if you have an emergency you can just turn up there without an appointment. They are open 24/7.

Thanks everyone for your supportive comments. The trouble is between seizures he has a wonderful life with his best friend at home and his friends at the park. He has 2-3 walks a day & loves his life.He's a very smart dog & has a great sense of humour. If he just had 1 seizure per. month and no post ictal that would be a lot easier to deal with. I have always had pedigree dogs. Dealing with one lot of inherited disorders is hard enough to deal with but dealing with two lots is much harder and unpredictable. I usually have 3 Giants at the same time so I am familiar with having to put dogs to sleep . Usually when they have a terminal illness. We had our old girl (16yrs ) put to sleep in November last year. Even when you are expecting it 's not an easy thing to do. I have had 9 Giants over a 30 year period & have never had to put a dog to sleep for a reason such as this.
