  1. Seeing your dog have seizures is very traumatic and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. You say your dog is not young, I would definitely be checking for any issues with her brain and if all is clear PLEASE put her on meds for epilepsy. My dog, Casper, has been on phenobarbitone for 7 years and Potassium Bromide for 4 - he has been seizure free for 4 years now. The side effects will last a couple of weeks but quite frankly, I'd rather have me dog be a zombie for a couple of weeks than have him seize 3-5 times. Also, have a look at this site: www.canine-epilepsy.com as you may find some useful information. Good luck to you and your little dog.
  2. I am so sorry for your double loss baifra. Losing one beautiful angel is bad enough but losing two must be unbearable. My thoughts are with you at this sad time.
  3. I am so sorry for your loss pampa. She was a beautiful girl. You fought a brave battle for her and then let her go with her dignity. The last hours you spent together will be with you forever. My thoughts are with you.
  4. Casper had pancreatitis 2 years ago. Like your dog he is a lean dog with no fat on him but one big juicy marrow bone sent him straight to the vet. That was the last bone his ever eaten. At the beginning you need to be very vigilant with your girl's diet. I had Casper on Hill's HD for the first few days, then put him on a LITE kibble with boiled rice and chicken. I now feed Weight Management or Senior IAMS and Roo Barf and he has not had a relapse. I can now give him the occasional chicken carcass or neck and it doesn't affect him. Unfortunately I cannot answer your question about feeding raw. I'm glad your girl is home, may she get stronger every day.
  5. I feed Big Dog kangaroo Barf and have seen no difference. If it starts looking like you've described, I will not be feeding it again. I'd be horrified to find metal in the dog's food. That is definitely a no-no. Did you get a response from the store SM?
  6. I am sorry for your loss TD. Time will replace the pain with happy memories. I hope this happens soon for you. Rest in Peace Tango.
  7. I'm sure your precious girl is looking down on you with love Ruffles. Sometimes it takes a very long time for the pain to go away, I hope this happens for you long before the next 12 months. Hugs to you and Angel Rinse.
  8. I am so sorry for your loss Griff. Ryan will have a home in your heart for ever. Rest in Peace Ryan, you were a gorgeous boy.
  9. I have a Roomba and love it. It's the newer but basic model. I switch it on every morning as I leave for work and come back to find it recharged and my house clean. It does fill up daily so I empty it every evening BUT I now only vacuum the house myself every 2 weeks. I wouldn't say it's fantastic on carpets but it's great on my tiled floors. Don't know how it would cope with 10 dogs though, perhaps get 2! You'd have to use it and empty it daily so it doesn't choke on the dog hair.
  10. I just saw this thread and wanted to send you my sympathies and tell you that you did the right thing by taking your girl from your ex at the end. At least she crossed the Bridge with the person who would do anything for her. I'm glad she got to spend her last days with you. Sending hugs your way. Rest in Peace Jessie.
  11. Thank you for sharing that. It was happy and sad at the same time. I have a big lump in my throat now and tears in my eyes. Dogs really are angels that are sent to help us sometimes.
  12. Another DOL Old Timer is gone and I am so, so sorry for your loss Staffyluv. You both fought a brave fight, you gave him the greatest gift by helping him cross the Bridge. The poem you posted brought tears to my eyes. I hope the pain of losing Ollie is soon replaced by nothing but happy memories. Rest in Peace sweet Ollie. There are many who will miss you.
  13. My vet believes in feeding dry dog food, not feeding raw, not feeding bones and annual vaccinations, no questions asked. BUT he found a lump on Casper's spleen by feel only, when Casper had pancreatitis and had to be hospitalised for 3 days, my vet let us take him home with his drip equipment every night and more recently he diagnosed Casper's degenerative myelopathy without costly and stressful x-rays. I trust his veterinary expertise, even if we might disagree on other things. Oh, and I have been to a good few vets before finding him. I think it's good to be anal when it comes to the care your dog gets but don't dismiss a good vet just because they have different opinions on how you should look after your dog. Just my opinion, of course ;)
  14. did you actually see her throwing the bread over? Next time you see her, pick it up and throw it back. Tell her you thought she dropped it so you're returning it. It would be a shame if it landed in a dog pile first! ;)
  15. I am so sorry for your loss. She was not old but you will remember Tara in her prime. I hope the hole in your heart will soon be replaced by happy memories. Rest in Peace sweet Tara.
  16. Hi Matt, have there been any updates since your last post? Have you asked your vet whether he/she thinks it's DM? If you still have no answers, I would recommend you do the DM DNA test. At least it might rule out one more thing.
  17. Did you see what he was doing before you saw the frothing?
  18. Gayle, if I die before you, I want to come back as your dog. You have done wonders for Shae, not only her coat and health but her overall quality of life. Well done
  19. I received this email from my mum: It is true, although we’ve never heard him called Sausage. Kanellos is his name and you’ll see him in all riots in the center of town, often shown by CNN and BBC. It is also true about the rest of the dogs, each suburb has their own. In ours the Pet shop on our street put out food and water for them every day. When we buy things from them (in our case for Minoux) I always pay extra for bag of dog food for them. On Sundays when the shop is closed they come and wait outside the shop, but some ladies come and give them left overs from the Sunday lunch which is a special treat for them. So although Greeks have a bad name for their treatment of animals, there quite a few who care.
  20. 90% of people in Athens and surrounding suburbs live in apartments, often quite small in size. From the dogs' perspective, I doubt they would be happier couped up in a small apartment for their whole lives when they can have the whole city to roam. It sounds like they have a pretty ok life! Thank you for the article Alyosha. I will send it to my folks who live 10 mins out of Athens and get their view on it!
  21. That was a beautiful tribute Cas, your love for Shannon really shines through. I am very sorry for your loss, she was beautiful and so loved. Rest in Peace little one. Watch over your family unti you meet again.
  22. Hi Matt, I'm sorry about your Westie's mobility issues. I just have to mention that my Shepherd has degenerative myelopathy. This disease does not usually progress so fast, you should have seen more subtle signs before now. I've heard of other dogs that show the same signs but have something else wrong. One that comes to mind has a cancerous growth on the spine. If you still suspect DM, there is a DNA test that you can have done which tells you whether your dog has the genes for it. Also, if it is DM, your dog needs maximum exercise, not rest, so you need to find out what this is as soon as possible. Does your Westie show any signs of pain? Good luck.
  23. Excellent news that the big guy is still with you. It's awful knowing that they are unwell and in pain and there's nothing you can do about it. It does sound like he's getting excellent care though so I'm crossing fingers that he'll be back home with you to heal in no time. Thank you for the update.
  24. wow, you can't get a better recommendation that this. Sounds like Kathy knows her stuff! Did you need a lot of sessions to see an improvement? I have sent all your replies to my colleague. I appreciate you all taking the time to reply!
