French Bulldog With A Prolapsed Bowel
_PL_ replied to natalieandcid's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Poor bub Have you seen a specialist yet? I'd want to rule out IBS or colitis or any number of the odd intestinal diseases before complex surgery. And a test of his faeces to rule out any nasties. And yes, talk to your breeder if you feel comfortable - it might be early days and you won't have much to tell them but they may have a snippet of info you can add to the vet's file. Best of luck. Awful time of year to have a sick loved one. xxx -
Sudden Blindness In Mini Schnauzer
_PL_ replied to Mum to Emma's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
No experience with retinal inflammation. But blind and partially blind yes. Firstly she is unlikely to want to go for walks like she used to. She needs to learn to rely more on her nose and ears. And to trust her feet. Take her into the garden when the sun isn't very bright, sit in a chair with a book and sprinkle some tiny liver treats through the grass, let her find them herself with her nose. Could take a while but it'll get her moving and interested in something. You can put a couple of drops of essential oil like lavender into a water spray bottle and make trails to things if she is getting lost. Don't move the furniture around and don't over-clean (for the time being) the 'known' paths she will make so she can follow her own scent. So no bleaches or carpet sprays etc. Stand with your eyes closed and it's very scary to take a few steps forward without hints. :) So I also use pieces of those grippy non slip rubber things (you know the ones that come on a roll and you can cut them?) and place them on important places. One at the feeding spot and at the water bowl etc. I'd put one outside her crate and anywhere you see her balk at stepping onto. She may never feel 100% comfy with surfaces like tiles or smooth lino. (I also wear an anklet that jingles a little so the dogs know where I am LOL) Not much help I know but in some ways you can't carry on as if everything is normal. And for a while she's going to need a bit of fussing. Best wishes for her. xx -
And this one -thread link- :) from start to finish.

Choose wisely with your "networking". There are not that many groups who know exactly what they are doing with greyhounds. Conversely there are plenty of people who don't know how to run a rescue at all but make all sorts of outlandish claims of success and expertise.
-
The NSW legislation doesn't set limits and won't interfere as long you get no valid noise/smell etc complaints and of course, keep your pets well. Local councils can pass bylaws limiting numbers although I've heard some have legally disputed these bylaws and State law came out on top. eta: I do mean pets, if you run kennels or breeding facilities it comes under a different Dept: DPI Code of practice and DA council stuff.

I've rescued for a years now and own poundies but.........*shock horror zomg* also a pedigree. Does that make me a bad person? Delete it. People who share that crap have very little idea and don't want to know. eta I should just add that it's not just pedigree breeders who get the blame for dogs dying in pounds. Some point the finger at rescues who have aren't doing a rapid turnaround. (where's the rolly eye man when you need him lol)

hello Miss Kat just popped in for a history repeating itself moment. It's a nostalgic time of year.
-
Dogs are vetworked and transported = saving on $$ for the taker/rescuer. A very tempting offer. & I wouldn't bother trying to point out the experiences of others. It almost always ends with "it's all about the dogs" "I suppose you'd rather them die" and "you're just a <insert insult here>". So greylvr, now you're really going to learn lesson #1 about strings. Best wishes and good luck I mean that sincerely.

Article Not Good For Rescues
_PL_ replied to Greylvr's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Nup, we use a form as first point of contact, a dedicated volunteer who handles the email hello's and everyone gets a response. All applicants and all dogs are individuals: & viewed as such. Good homes who don't suit the dog or have missed out are recommended to another rescue. We did "rethink how much workload we were taking on" and oddly enough people like bosses and family, eventually get very tired of rescue taking over. Really fed up in fact. So there has to be a line. My line is not having my phone number on the internet. Not being the first to cop a gobful because someone wants their old dog taken away asap or to get a dog out under our clause. & I think you'd agree T, my people skills are somewhat ok. lol. But nobody is born a rescuer/public relations expert, it's a constant learning curve. -
Need A Rescue Group In Queensland (mackay)
_PL_ replied to luvmypet's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
You're rehoming your rescued dog...so in answer to your question, no there doesn't need to be nearby rescue groups because he is your dog and you are responsible for him if it doesn't work out. Same as if I sent a dog hundreds of km's away. Always have a plan to take them back. Have you organised a yard check before sending him? That should be your first question to rescues in the area. & I'd be approaching local rescue by phone rather than email or forum. They will need to know details like temperament, health, vetwork etc before committing to anything. There is a group in that area. -
"klieb Tal-kacca Ta Malta" The Maltese Hunting Dog

I seriously couldn't wait for an answer after seeing the lovely looking pointery dog in the photos thread. More here from a maltese breed forum -
Sorry all, would it be clearer if I said battery powered heated pet coat?
-
Hi LB! :) And thank you. I unpacked the goodies, there's a thankyou piccie of them on FB. The battery operated jacket is going to be tested soon but I might need supervision or will just hand it over to Toots to be in charge of, I'd never seen one before! Such a good idea especially for the oldies. I wonder who the lucky dog will be that gets first go.

If it's easier to PM I'm here.

That's quite impressively unprofessional. Let's hope that tactic prompts many people to find other rescue groups to support. That page is gold. And still harping on about Pound List photos as well because they can't be bothered going in and getting their own. I've said it before...heavy handed bullying and attacks on a small group of women who put in time and effort for the dogs, not so one rescue-but-not-rescue can use the images to cyber beg. Why can they not take their own? This is one question that goes unanswered. re Insurance: All they have is an ABN and a NSW specific CFN. They aren't registered with ASIC so the individual members and particularly the clause holder are open to be sued the day a dog comes back to bite them. Which will happen. Because they certainly don't use due diligence, temp test or take heed of pound advice like a dog being impounded for poor temperament.

dammit Katdogs Really wish I could.
-
oh dear fediie. Not a rescue again. Things are coming unravelled I swear. Bkossom78, if you were in NSW you'd be wrong on both the getting of private details from the C.A.R. and taking the animal home. I'm really glad it's worked out happily for everyone so far, you must have different regs in the ACT.
