I don't disagree with the decision and it's probably the only one left but doing it on your own sucks.
-
Just me: I'd get a professional to advise in person. Even a heart-to-heart with his regular vet. Dol is good but is limited to online. I say this because the decision to PTS a dog you've had for 10yrs will affect you deeply and is not something easily done on your own.

Attention All Breeders Involved In The Rescue Scene
_PL_ replied to Loreley's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Could very well be based in fact but it's very thin on useful information that you ought to be contacting the media or government about. I get that new laws never work like they should and there is a lot of angst in NSW about the bizarre proposals here. However I thought the number of allowable dogs was actually the current law in VIC under councils that choose to impose by-laws or development approvals? Is this being revised at state level? -
Dogs Seized From No Kill Shelter
_PL_ replied to HeelerLove's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Blast. So either people have gone nicely quiet and got on with things or there's even less people are allowed in so that info can't get out. I guess both options would be sensible with charges pending I just hope the animals in there still get the extra assistance that all the attention generated. -

Sorry to interrupt but does anyone know what's happening at the shelter three months on? Are volunteers still going in and is there a significant reduction in numbers? -
A Cautionary Tale About People Getting Things Very Wrong
_PL_ replied to Her Majesty Dogmad's topic in General Dog Discussion
Personally I'm getting really fed up with every single thread that mentions 'bull breed' turns into a freaking circus. There's never a discussion. It's all How Very Dare You and trot out the stats. Hands off our dogs they are angels. Maybe you should collectively try to decide what point you're trying to get across. If someone says they've had a problem with a 'staffy' ...oh it's the owner's fault, oh it's the breeder's fault, oh it's the victim's, oh it's the council's fault or they're just told they have a bad attitude and it could just have easily been a maltese involved. It's nice to see the dogs defended when they can't speak for themselves but seriously these threads do you NO favours and just make people not bother to comment because they get brow beaten. It doesn't matter one iota if the stats tell you everyone is wrong. Public opinion doesn't work that way. And average member of the public reading these threads are just 20 minutes poorer and no more enlightened. It's getting old and boring and not getting any bull breed one step further. I'd much rather read positive steps like the ones Wobbly has taken than see one more member crucified for putting a particular word into their post. -
A Cautionary Tale About People Getting Things Very Wrong
_PL_ replied to Her Majesty Dogmad's topic in General Dog Discussion
Correct me if I'm wrong but AFAIK, 'Bull breeds' are still just terriers. Big terriers. A larger version of strong, game, scrappy, headstrong little clowns that some call anklebiters or dish mops LOL. .....truly some of the most disastrous outcomes for any dog stems from owners who don't research their breeds and honestly look at themselves and what they have to offer a dog. I feel sorry for the pair of Amstaffs in the original post being set up to fail. After being shut in that yard, fighting with each other and receiving no stimulation or training it's not surprising they ended up basket cases. -
I agree on second opinion. It could still even be a very tiny hole in his palate that you can't easily see. Then there's weird things like fungal, nasal mite, botfly, an abscess. He's had some really good care since he came to you but you don't know what he was exposed to before that or if his immune system is what it should be yet. Get better Baz!

Black Salve For Dogs Cats And Horses
_PL_ replied to GeckoTree's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Do you mean Ichthammol (Black Ointment) drawing ointment or Black Salve the dodgy skin cancer cure? Very different and as far as I know the salve has a lot of critics re scarring and skin corrosion but I don't know much about it other than that. -

Large Dog Door To Go Into Glass Pane
_PL_ replied to White Shepherd mom's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yep the sliding door inserts (Pig In Mud is another brand) or replace the smaller glass window with wood or laminate. Finding a glazier to cut a large hole in the window will be harder than trying to find someone who will cut the cat size one. Most say no, or they'll try but can't be held responsible for broken glass. From memory, none will cut into safety glass if that's what you have. I'd make sure the room he can access via the dog door is lockable in case you have any thieves stupid enough to follow a large dog into his own home. -

Deep down I guess I know that Blueylove, yes she would have to be aware by now. It's just so sad to watch. -

I get the impression that Lola may be as blinded as the rest of Mark's supporters. If she could see just how much damage he is doing I am sure she would have shut him up by now, especially considering the way he has obviously been acting and speaking towards the people that have stuck by her for so long but there has been nothing. That would be even worse. And I'm not making excuses but she is an older lady, living in the country spending most of her time out in the shelter and this is a huge generalisation because I've just gotten back from visiting country relatives who do have emails and internet etc.....but that generation don't always 'get' social media. They don't get the nutters, the grandstanders, the viral nature of it or the damage that can be done when things snowball. Up to this, it was probably just a useful medium to advertise the animals. Now it's a campaign with legs of it's own being driven by one guy and his new fans. Here's hoping that a fraction of the ones who shout the loudest are getting off their bums and physically helping those animals instead of just talking about it. Mark maybe you could put the cowboy boots aside and go scoop some poop. :D -

_PL_ replied to HeelerLove's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
OMG, just catching up now. What a shocking mess. Imagine how far you'd have to push a person who has been volunteering for so long to pull down a rescue's website. Mark is doing nothing positive for those animals with his mismanaged social media campaign/political soapbox. Absolutely nothing at all. Can't their legal put a restraining order in place! -

Chained Dog Awareness Trust Nz
_PL_ replied to Mila's Mum's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Have a look in the In Loving Memory section - that has more info on how they are killed Thanks MM. x -
We need an independent Ombudsman service for animal welfare. And this poor old bloke. If he was a 'horse hoarder' why run in and crush him? It's been agreed (Tufts HARC) you need a multi pronged approach to helping the individual and the affected animals. Having a doco made about him, no matter how sympathetic doesn't exactly prepare an elderly man for the crazies of social media taking it on as their mission in life. Most of whom seem to love the RSPCA one minute and hate them the next depending on the latest viral campaign.

Chained Dog Awareness Trust Nz
_PL_ replied to Mila's Mum's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
That seems to be top of the list, education owners and getting better care, vetwork, socialisation etc. Then surrender if the owner will decide it's all too hard. So it doesn't really say but the nicer setups might be properties they were working on. The bit I don't understand is where the dogs are - killed for non registration. I guess they got off their chain and were unclaimed? edited because I can't spell
