Well Pets Haven is irresponsible to say the least, its all about moving animals through their shop to make money. And your story is one of many -

Good Family Dog, But Also Guard Dog
Animal House replied to bossyboo's topic in General Dog Discussion
You could look at an older dog as well (whatever breed you choose) as the dogs temperament is already known. DOL has mature dogs listed, in the main page. Link: http://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/dogs.asp What dog do you currently have? Whichever one you get, still needs training, socialising, etc etc, GSD require a lot of training/exercise/stimulation, so you need to figure all of that into choosing a breed as well. Having acreage is great, but you still need to take them for the walk/run etc. -
Good Family Dog, But Also Guard Dog
Animal House replied to bossyboo's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'd go for a Rottweiler, beautiful dogs (from a recommended, registered breeder who does all the proper health testing) and yes, a female. We had one many years ago, would (occasionally) scare the daylights out of people going past our place with a deep bark and the appearance of her big fat head at the top of our fence. But she was very loyal, very family orientated and a big snuggle bum. I felt no fear walking her at night either. -
Such a lovely gesture, sad to hear about Molly though.

Hoping for the best outcome for Mia

Such a lovely story :D -
It's never easy, I think the oldies get to me the most, in here. I'm really sorry to hear about Poncho, run free little man.

Big fan of Lort Smith here, my old boy recently had an operation there, excellent vets and staff, couldn't have gone to a better place.

So sorry for your loss Wednesday, Viva was a lovely girl.

What a cute little terrorist she is. But yes, a (recommended) trainer to come and see her in the home will be the best investment, and you'll both learn so much. The sooner, the better, and you'll have much more confidence in knowing what to do with her.

This is all sounding a bit dodgy, maybe I'll just go where I know to find quality, the local pet shop. Sure to have a puppy or 10, AND they are all purebreads. With a paper!!!
-
Oh, I must have one of these, do they come in blue? And they are non allergy, non pooping, non chewing, non barking, non peeing, fun kind of dogs aren't they? Cause I haven't got the time/energy/inclination to actually look after it too much.

I hope they charged him with theft, what a horrible thing to do, how did he know their address?

Four-year-old Girl Killed By Family Dog In Mountsorrel - Uk
Animal House replied to melzawelza's topic in In The News
Tragic. Conflicting reports, but they are saying it attacked her in the lounge room now. And that the dog had suffered abuse as it had scars all over it's body (according to a neighbour) Why would the kennel rehome to someone in a flat with a small child? Poor little girl. -
We shouldn't be judging him, we don't know the circumstances at all, only what was reported, and that's not the whole story. I think one of those satellite phones (or the equivalent, that sends out a distress signal) should be mandatory for people going bush.

Of you take water, don't leave the bowl there, because if the RSPCA come out, they'll see he has water

Cost To Have A Tooth Removed?
Animal House replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
My old dog had to have his teeth cleaned, under anaesthetic, and then they found 2 teeth (back ones) needed removal. Ended up around $500 as he needed pre-anaesthetic bloods, bag of fluid ($70! ) antibiotics and pain relief. His teeth were really awful though, so it was a longer job. And he stayed in overnight as they didn't do him till later in the day, and this was at Lort Smith where they are cheaper. -
Told My Neighbour Kicks My Dogs :(
Animal House replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
Geez, what an asswipe if he has done that to your dogs....but before you confront him/report him you would need evidence. Definitely padlock the gate and put a camera up so you can monitor the situation, theres a few around, I've heard of one that will record for 4 hours I think (motion activated) and then you just plug it into your computer to watch it. -

Are you getting him desexed? So if you aren't willing to have him assessed, you'll disclose this problem to potential adoptees then? I think you need to read back through my posts, yes I have already got him desexed and not disclosing this wouldn't be of any benefit to anyone, I want him to find the best possible home, preferably with people who have owned dogs before its not a massive problem things could be worse. I also could you suggest a behaviourist who would do an assessment? In my honest opinion I do believe he is a purebred, but he has no papers so cant be 100% his a very nicely put together boy, its my lucky week by phone has broken into pieces so I don't have any other photos at this point in time. I know he was purchased from Orange, and Owner said he is 2 next month. But his chest hasn't filled out quite yet so I have a feeling he might be a little younger, or he could just be small. 13.5kg for a male staffy is a good size, ill measure him from the weathers and see how he stacks up to the standard (not that it makes him a pure bred) but good to know. My apologies, I didn't see that you'd had him desexed already. I'd still ask around to get a behaviorist to assess him, I'm sure there are plenty around the area if you ask in this thread. Good luck with him. :) -

This is something that would need a behaviourist to look at I think, I'd be very worried if you couldn't go near him (and he growled) when eating a meaty bone, so don't give him any until you get an experienced person to assess him. Wouldn't hurt to start NILIF either.
