Glorious photo example. Never forget the first day I went for a ride on my new horse bought from a cattle station at oberon, that was his reaction to the concrete gutters and the sight of the black holes where the water went underground. Rang Kevin and told him of his fear of them to which he laughed his head off. and told me he had never seen them, or tarred roads either, which explained why he was so wary of crossing the road, as for those scary white lines, yep he jumped them until he finally got up the courage to actually lower his head and check it out and sniffed and licked them until he decided they were harmless. never forget his response to seeing an eel trying to swim across a flooded road, well half an inch deep water through which an eel thick as my wrist was wiggling along in. after many snorts he sussed it out, gave it a few sniffs, then with his top lip flicked it out of the water and onto the road. was my turn to be horrifed, what if it had been a snake? dead neddy. suspect that kind of behaviour is how so many horses get bitten, so much for horses being afraid of snakes

No idea how to find the link at the moment but a chap has a page titled how to lose everything with the right lawyer, he was referring to the Ruth Downey's case rspca fielded three of Wozonic lawyers and bagged over $250, 000 in legal fees alone, as for the chap whose. Murry greys were shot it's said rspca have already ran up $7 million and lost. Now appealing the $2 million or more damages awarded against them, better have deep pockets, it's taken him ten years to get the rspca to this point

As for that foxi he had no problem with adults, even complete strangers, he was friendly too. it was kids he targeted, second it was just him and a child he let them know they did not belong here... get out now! soon as an adult arrived butter wouldn't melt in the little bastards mouth. You hit a good one there, "abused" is a term so abused its ridiculous. just because as you said any animal is confronted with something it doesnt feel comfortable the instant assumption is it was "abused". if they have never seen something before of course they will be suspicious and wary. never seen any animal abused by a gutter or the drain that runs from it, but sure seen plenty of horses flatly refuse to go near the strange monster they had never seen before. some will even throw the rider and or bolt rather than risk going near the danger lurking there. in horses its called desensitising to let them see the scary thing and check it out without pushing them to trigger the fight or flight response, even the most nervous can with care end up happily checking out umbrellas, having stock whips cracked beside, over and under along with ropes spinning all around , drums, whistles u name it. cannot count how many times a child has had their until now dead quiet child's pony bolt as if the devil were after it, when they either decided to remove or put on their coat while still sitting on their horse and again I have never seen a coat attack with or without provocation in any circumstances but see a dog flee form a dropped article of clothing and 99% of people will be parroting that line ," see that, poor thing, it must have been abused" but no one seems to realise the same needs are there to familiarise your dog too

Regardless of where the dog lives, and my aunts foxi lived in the house with them. He could never be allowed in the same room with visiting children, he would attack them the second the adults left the room, grew up with a strong fear of foxies after every one forgot me one day, he latched on in the seconds between everyone leaving the room and mum rushed to the rescue

Its about time, no, its way beyond time, people learned what was the norm in the 1950's. No child is left unsupervised near water of any kind, be it a river, a creek, a pond, the sea, a dam or a swimming pool THE SAME THING APPLIES TO DOG'S! THEY ARE DOG'S, DOG'S ARE NOT FUR CHILDREN They have no idea that "thou shalt not kill" or the consequences if it decides to kill another dog or a child or person, after the act it will come wagging its tail to its owner. This is a fact that has been glossed over for decades. The second the fur child mentality began this age of shock and horror of what a dog is capable of began. Its not just the child at risk either, children have to be watched and taught too. well remember the story of the dog that was put down after snapping at the owners child. only after he was dead did the vet discover the pencil jammed in his ear; children too can be incredibly cruel, until they learn Some never do. not sure of the figures for this week, but two weeks ago 11 women this year have already been killed in domestic violance, thats more than one a week, so the slaughter continues. There is way too much silence over this mass murder taking place year in year out. Far less have been killed by dog's but BSL was the result Three have died from eating rock melons and the TV is saying throw out any you have and don't buy until proven safe again, meanwhile rockmelon growers are facing ruin, only one grower has been traced to the source of contamination but all are suddenly tarred with the same brush. we live in a very priority skewed world

Having bred chihuahuas since 1978, horror of the blue and chocolate dogs had more to do with they didn't have blacknoses so many showies would not show them as the judges with the ignorance of genetics (n that was most of them in the eighties wouldn't place them because they ignored the sentence in the standard that mentioned dilute colours had dilute nose colour, ie: chocolate dog = chocolate nose. Blue. Dog = blue nose, the idiots were NEVER going to find either a blue or chocolate with a black nose, genetically impossible,) as for chocolate to chocolate = weakness. Well it does show weakness in their knowledge of genitics, but then old wives tales always took precedence over genetics. I have never seen a health problem in either colour, although one in four blue dogs can develop what is known as blue gene alopecia when they lose their puppy coat, proving there is an elle present that when homozygous will cause blue gene alopecia, the Weimarmarinar (sorry can't remember spelling) breed has proven this elle can be eliminated if the will to do so is there. all that entails in a blue chihuahua is some have short or hairless along the top of the tail and back in extreme cases very similar to a Mexican hairless, and no resulting health issues although being so short skin can get dry if out in too much sun, just as it would for a Mexican hairless, although unlike the Mexican hairless the elle is not lethal when homozygous in fact only expressed when homozygous. as for chocolate, too much sun and colour fades quickly leaving pale tips to the coat, again Not, a health issue As seen in labradors as well the golden dog carrying two chocolate or two blue genes can only express it on the nose leather and eye rims which instead of being black are either chocolate or blue instead Also contrary to popular belief, coat colour genes are not linked to conformation. No matter how often it is said it is

well its not who should be the arbritrator, who IS AND HAS BEEN are the judges who put up the new u beaut "improved" version and the sheeple follow the lead. until its morphed so much people can post look what this breed looked like in 1950? then 1960, then 1970, 80 , 90 and 2010. may as well be two different breeds by then. I dont see that as improving I see it as morphing to a new shape and breed. so many examples to choose from, although in the case of the King Charles Spaniel, there are now two versions, the morphed end result of the original and the recreated version of what it used to be in the time of King Charles, now known as the Cavalier King Charles. wonder if others will end up with two versions? the original German Shepherd v the "modern bananna" springs to mind, but so many other too

..This was posted by the girl aunty. ........ This was my niece that died today, and unlike the media is saying..she was actually being walked by her mother in a pram on the way to her granny’s house just one block away. There are no words to describe a scene where a mother is fighting with every ounce of her being to save her baby girl. The dog in question actually cleared a fenced yard (someone else’s dog not our family’s). I really don’t care what the breed of dog it was. Our family have lost our baby girl who never got a chance to live her life
-
yes, have to wonder how the press got it so wrong. another case of fencing not good enough. That poor mother and family
-
It saves many from being put down but the libbers are busy to get it banned as noted in an older thread they have succeeded in Victoria

The perils of pet ownership: your dog isn't a 'fur baby', it's your property
asal replied to Boronia's topic in In The News
Mr Wise was recently quoted in a Fairfax article as saying:""At one time, not all human beings were considered 'persons' — children, women and slaves were simply the property of men. We're saying that, based on clear scientific evidence, it is time to take the next step and recognise that certain animals cannot continue to be exploited as property." Hey, women are still being killed at the rate of more than one a week by their partner so they still are viewed by a significant percent as property to be destroyed if they so wish. At this rate the animals will have more rights than the female of the human species is allowed yet? -
breed standards . 'deformed' Brachy breeds
asal replied to persephone's topic in General Dog Discussion
except the compromised purebreds be they backyard bred or pedigree bred when crossed can combine instead . I refused to walk to the exaggerated drum, I selected and bred for soundness from day one, To do so is to invite persecution by those who believe extreme "improvement" is the hall mark of ethical. it was a fellow member of my breed club who would play with my dog at the meetings who made that fateful call to enable the rspca to arrive and take him. She bred for exaggeration and compromised reproductive traits but she showed, so when you show your "ethical" and thus then feel empowered to eliminate any who do not aspire to her version of ethical. so many are busy destroying all who don't march to their drum from within. how often do we hear, a member cannot be "ethical" if they do not show? Don't show, you will get the knocks on the door, until the embarrassment of the badged vehicle at the gate has the neighbours as well deciding, "where there's smoke there's fire," causes the target to resign, or if the reporter is lucky the target has a dog that day with something that will make the knocker money in court, whatever. gets rid of those who do want to breed sound middle of the road purebreds very effectively -

breed standards . 'deformed' Brachy breeds

unfortunately the show scene leads the way in 'improving' on what they have, the standard for the Persian cat had the sentence "pleasant expression" deleted from the standard to permit the new improved no muzzle gargoyles that had began to appear to win over the few left with a muzzle and a pleasant expression.as for the lovely cats my uncle used to breed in 1948, they actually had a face but they were soon regulated to being called "chocolate box persians" as the only place you could find them by the 60's was photos on chocolate boxes and so it goes the original can still be spotted occasionally but only in the dreaded backyard never at a show unless its a pet show for moggies -
Horses being ridden on beach attacked by off lead dog .
asal replied to persephone's topic in General Dog Discussion
have to admit, although my old horse never killed a dog, he sure scared many an intending attacker witless. he liked to wait until the second they thought they were going to latch on to him and he spin fast as a cat and land with the dog between his descending feet with a full set of teeth straight for its face, they tended to turn themselves inside out trying to do a 180 and flee for their lives, dont mess with a savy stock horse that can cut wild rabbits let alone a slow moving dog. this is the old boy in full flight aged 26 winning the penrith show iron woman race by half a mile,, which he won again by a 1/4 mile margin the next year aged 27, there were 14 the first year and 12 the second year and a fraction his age, decided to see if it was true, as that old saying goes 'Old Age And Cunning Will Overcome Youth And Skill Every Time", eh? -

"as a companion or a cow who is born male and therefore can't produce milk to profit the dairy industry." I gather the writer is unaware that in cattle, a cow is born female? a bull is born what? male "consider the large protests in Australia against puppy mills" so I gather the writer is also quite unaware that now councils are now demanding that anyone who wants to breed their dogs they are obliged now to build large concrete floored sheds which are then expected to be air conditioned? A friend has just been told this by dungog council. obviously the council appears to be very unaware this building automatically conforms to the label of a puppy farm, also ignores the fact Australian summers are incredibly hot as everyone has been well aware this summer in particular, both suburbia and country are subject to blackouts, such sheds would then become the equivalent of a locked car. cooking the animals unfortunate to be inside it. yes animal libbers are doing a great job creating puppy farms, because its the animal libbers and the so called animal charity who the pollies are writing the laws as dictated This proposed draft does not describe a hobby breeder, it describes the ideal "puppy farm" right down to the number of "staff" required. This is the creation of puppy farms. not the other way around. http://www.nswcfa.asn.au/notices/notices/News/Discussion paper - proposed draft S%26G (Breeding Dogs and Cats) 27 October 2017.pdf -
Horses being ridden on beach attacked by off lead dog .
asal replied to persephone's topic in General Dog Discussion
no but the risk of infection from the bites and the mental damage to the horses will mean they would probably bolt if they see a dog heading for them in future. pity one of the horses wasn't a dog killer, my brothers mare and her mother would dispatch any attacking dog in seconds they were very good at it. Never had to worry about dog attacks to them or the other horses in their paddock, I never saw either in action but a neighbour said the mother would jump on the dog and when she grew up the daughter did the same. a friends gelding does the same, I saw him take on a dog and kill it, that turned up while I was visiting and went for them in their paddock, so some horses will do it. Something to remember if your dog is offleash and heads towards some horses one day -
the tragedy is it wouldnt happen if not doubled up but even in breeds that have merle the majority of breeders ive met dont know. well remember the attempts to get imported merle chihuahua's accepted as purebred, they have enough additions already when the long coat gene was introduced so long ago, still get throwbacks you couldnt tell from a purebred pom or papillion and that was introduced some 80 or more years ago. so it was knocked back here in australia. it wasnt just the merle gene we figured would have been added to the gene pool
-
that one was lucky at least it has eyes. I suspect many double merle matings are accident. either one was not recognised as being a merle or the other ooo too common cause, many who do it haven't a clue what happens to the double merle puppies until they have to see and deal with the result

A video point of view worth sharing . Dogs are DOGS .
asal replied to persephone's topic in General Dog Discussion
Well they are certainly more frequent and the damage done is far worse over the past decade Now a study of breeds involved and the aggression level of the attacking canines would be interesting If the push is successful to have animals animals recognised as sentient beings is passed Will such dogs be facing murder or attempted murder charges? Isn't a sentient being also supposed to know right from wrong? Never met a dog that killed seem to show remorse, my friends lab was wagging his tail when she woke up to find he was standing over the body of her son's 18 months old kelpie, in fact her lab was puzzled he wouldn't wake up -
Everyone can be accused of being a backyard breeder, all it takes is having a backyard and someone doesn't like you. As for learning genetics, so many view their dogs as fur children and don't see the necessity to learn genetics. How many times it won or has Ch in front of it's name is the criteria

Can be a real pain when it's a pony, she wouldn't drink unless we brought water from home, so for away mounted games or any other thing had to take enough water to last till we were back home n the darned 20itre containers are HEAVY

there is a uni in Canberra who has dismissed therapy animals from coming to campus to interact with stressed students, http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-11-02/university-brings-petting-zoo-to-calm-students-during-exams/9111504 apparently the animal libbers convinced the board they were exploiting the animals. So it has been discontinued. believe it or not.
