  1. Its surprising how few people know to even think of a greyhound. when I a litter for sale I always took them to my daughter in laws for them to pick up and they got to meet her greyhound, Honey, almost without fail after meeting Honey, they would decide if they get a second dog or their next one it will be a greyhound, she made such a favorable impression on them. not enough exposure to people on a general basis to greyhounds I suspect is the problem.
  2. as some are beginning to notice to them every complaint lodged isnt an opportunity to help the animal or educate the owner, its either a golden income opportunity or generate free publicity, fail a tick to either (preferably both) of those two and their "hands are tied, sorry"
  3. spotted this news story, Obviously they are just as greedy and inhumane in the old dart http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1252213/Judge-slams-RSPCAs-court-attempt-double-300-000-left-generous-animal-lover.html#ixzz3dTtk8kDs
  4. unfortunately the mindset of that horrible woman it seems is what they look for to employ, they leave me feeling they enjoy heaping as much humiliation on people as they possibly can with no care for the owner or their pets mental anguish, if anything the more pain they can inflict the better seems to be the aim.
  5. agree, they should be kept home, or dont have one, the damage they do is dreadful. wouldn't have an issue if it were mice and rats they targeted but not so, anything that moves is a target, neighbour wont keep theirs home so all our skinks who lived on the verandah are now gone as are the tree frogs and the wrens have gone from 18 to 7. the temptation to get it shot is overpowering, too smart to go into a trap n prior to that other neighbours have trapped and impounded it and they just pay the fine, bring it back home and let it loose again
  6. those with noisy dogs next door, I advise them to get one of those ultrasonic bark busters and hang it beside the fence, all have reported back has helped shut it up n its owner doesnt even know why. although the little battery can need replacing every few days for a while until the dog reduces its barking. had a real yapper of my own and the citronella collar was a joke, he learned so many barks and it runs out . think the blighter learned to count how many before it ran out, then he was off full bore again. His owner had named him echo, now that surely is asking for trouble? I bought the little bird house look model and the local electronics store rewired it to clip to a car battery so it didnt need recharging for a month.. BLISS! Mine is the little brown model, the electronics shop added a gizmo to adjust the voltage from the car battery. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Puppy-Dog-Ultrasonic-Outdoor-Stop-Bark-Anti-Barking-Control-System-Device-/311668909394?hash=item4890ea2552:g:QpAAAOSwq7JUGmK3
  7. Since one of the original carers of the dog and her puppies was a qualified vet, so are we now to assume their qualification's don't count, because goodness knows who at the rspca disagreed with their opinion of the temperament of the dog and her puppies? why is being employed by the rspca supposed to mean that opinion is the only valid 'expert' one? What part of becoming an employee there inparts automatic impeecable powers of knowledge? I know my perfectly healthy dog when he was taken, came back a mess, with pneumonia to boot, and their all knowing vet didn't even notice. My vet is still furious over the incompetence they displayed, saw him this Saturday and he came out with it, nice to know Im not the only one who remembers. but as said above because the all knowing all powerful spell "RSPCA" invokes on anything they do or say joe public like the poster above, will say "not sure what the truth is here!"
  8. I agree. We wouldn't have dogs if we didn't believe we could give them a good life. It's not always obvious when that's no longer the case, but everybody seems eager to voice an opinion. I've sent dogs over the rainbow bridge earlier than others would have done - my heart-dog most painfully; her degenerative myelopathy was not advanced, but she was terrified of falling. I've also kept dogs alive, knowing that they had a quality of life that other people didn't recognise. My heart-dog's grand-daughter lived happily with more advanced DM; she learnt to prop her hindquarters against the clothes hoist while she showed a puppy how to dig. My oodle rescue lived a vibrant life in the world of smell, still able to track me through the paddock long after he lost both sight and hearing. Too often, I've prolonged my pets' lives against my better judgement, at the urging of vets. I've seen them die harder because of it, when their circulation has become too poor for rapid administration of the final anaesthetic. Most recently, my elderly Birman developed unexpected kidney failure. The vets sent her home, knowing that they'd been unable to get her to eat or drink. After a day of forcibly administering food and water, I returned to the vets. They talked about dialysis, and made me feel cruel when I opted for euthenasia. Her blood pressure was so low that they had to inject the anaesthetic directly into the heart. People are too ready to judge others for their decisions. Funny in a way that title, as so many agree, I included, we only just recently had to let our part of the family pony go a day short of her 36th birthday she looked so good she could have won a halter class but her old knees and hocks had become too stiff to let her get up unaided anymore, once quality of life has gone the compassionate thing to do is let them go. Yet what is so broken about our system that our aged parents cannot be permitted the same compassion? No mother should discover her daughter had been begged by her grandmother to smother her with the pillow to end her suffering, surely? (she had gangrene and took 6 weeks to die an agonising end, she could not be saved so what was the purpose of withholding a compassionate end? she had asked me to do the same, had no idea until recently she had also done the same to my child, I knew she would be better off, but feared the law, with hindsight I did the wrong thing, she lingered another terrible 4 weeks, no one deserves that, that is hard to cope with) she had already suffered unimaginable agony for the previous 3 MONTHS? because the two doctors asked to see her at the nursing home were too incompetent to diagnose a broken hip despite my protests she was obviously in extreme pain after a fall from her bed one morning, could find no one to investigate why a perfectly ambulatory woman prior to the fall was incapable of moving let alone walk afterwards. only after she developed gangrene in the resulting ulcers on her heels and I am talking bone exposed here was she transferred to a hospital. the medical board did investigate my complaints. the doctors concerned told the board it was the patients fault for saying the pain was in her knee (I had made such a fuss a second doctor had been brought in for a second opinion) and two xrays proved the knee was fine, never occured to either to xray the hip and they did not tell me they had only xrayed the knee both times I had finally got them to have xrays done, so she was moved from bed to wheel chair twice a day at minimum. according to an orthopedic surgeon the pain of a broken hip radiates to the knee, the poor pair were sent for retaining and counseling, all paid for by the medical board. no such compassion or counseling assistance for me or my daughter or the rest of the family though. So do not presume some doctors actually know what they are doing just because MD is at the end of their name.
  9. I believe even small kids are WELL able to distinguish between their own dog and a strange dog :) once again .. it is up to parents to instil respect and knowledge . As kids, we used to do all sorts of things to our dogs ... but would NEVER attempt to try anything on one of the working dogs , let alone a dog we didn't know. Why is it so hard to teach this nowdays? We knew we'd be snapped at by the dog , or chastised by a parent if we did the 'wrong' thing ..simple consequences .So we learned ... Kids today miss out on so much that we took for granted as children , they may be in the computer age but I suspect we were the lucky ones. My dad had a building supply business and in the 50's your surveliance system was your guard dogs, no camera's then. anyone could enter and inspect the goods, the deal was once you had decided you told dad or one of his brothers which items you wanted and paid as dad or his brothers loaded your purchases... If you tried to load them yourself one of the dogs stopped you. no kidding, they knew the rules. no shop lifting problems there. dad had german shepherds, the original ones, and once Blue the red cattledog arrived, it was ACD's from that day forward, he was amazing he knew the drill from day one no need to be taught like the others, in the best ACD's its instinct. anyone enter after closing if no one was home would discover they were not allowed to leave until someone in the family arrived to tell the dogs it was ok to let them leave. when I married took one with me to my new home, came home from shopping to discover my new landlord had been "waiting" 2 hours for me to come home. he was allowed to sit on the verandah but leave? no chance. thought he would do the biscuit. but thankfully he was thrilled. reckoned wouldn't need to worry about his house being damaged by burglars regardless of whether I was home or not
  10. I know no one would be able to use my misty's tail or Bindi's, they would be wagging way to fast for a child to catch, as for bindi, the paper would have been stolen and those paints been scatters to the four winds in about 3 seconds if that as the paint pots were thrown and retrieved over and over again. although the patience of some animal with a young child can astound you. found my toddler trying to milk my jersey one morning, Zardi was standing with a strange look on her face and one jaw twisted sideways. then I realise sitting beneath her was my toddler, holding a teat in both hands and trying to wring the milk out of it into a cup in her lap. Zardi didn't move a muscle save her jaw. still didnt move as I pulled her tormentor out from under her. she earned herself a home for life, just like daughters pony fluffy who we only just lost a day short of 36 Zardi wasn't in a bail or even haltered she was in her own paddock free to walk away. I watched that dog carfeully in the video it showed no sign that the child may have been hurting its tail before I decided to share the video
  11. think there will be two trains of thought. amazing patient family dog or how could the parents let her use him like that. me, I think that dog is adorable and that little kid is going to be pretty smart to even think outside the square and realise a tail would make a good paintbrush
  12. Adorable, looks like my aunts, hers would help the burgler carry out their loot. is zelda as loving to all too?
  13. I can understand why they had added the word "english" I do microchipping and many of the puppies I have been asked to chip were described as Bull Terrier's, but were in fact pit bulls. Honestly who could mistake the difference in their faces? soon as bsl came in those with pittys deleted the pit from their description to avoid problems with council registration. there is a lot of slight of hand in names these days. saw a brindle blue frenchie and it has full blue main registration papers. they know it cant be shown because blue is not an accepted colour and they do know it couldnt be main registered if its papers said it was blue, so on the registration papers it simply says brindle is the colour, there is no mention that it is blue, they also have a chocolate, also main registered. wonder how long before the colours are accepted? I remember as a kid no one admitted their border collie had ever produced a blue, chocolate or gold, now they are everywhere and winning as well
  14. They're not a dog that float my boat but Jones sure is lucky to have landed on his paws with the owners he got! a member of my family has bought a cute little one, he isnt 3 months old and is going to need surgery to shorten his palette he has such difficulty breathing, another friends mum lost their's during the heat wave he died before they could get him to the vet, breathing difficulty too. he was only 7 months old. I gather if you want to get one, pet insurance is certainly a very good idea
  15. Love Tarana, beautiful barely known corner of nsw.
  16. Cannot remember who put up this link http://www.parliament.vic.gov.au/images/stories/committees/SCEI/Domestic_Animals_/EIC_58-06_Report_Text_only.pdf this from the AVA is gold, has been said so often by so many but no one in government or other breeder for that matter seem to understand this? found on page 17 The AVA stated to the Committee: If the code of practice was being adhered to now, we would have no problems. But councils just do not have the resources to monitor and enforce the code of practice now. The only thing that this legislation is going to do, with the capping, is drive out professionals. You are going to get more micro backyard breeders, who are going to be harder to detect. 43 Dated 6/12/16 doesn't look promising http://www.premier.vic.gov.au/statement-on-puppy-farms/
  17. posted on fb http://www.sbs.com.au/ondemand/video/815846467724/the-feed-december-6 Perfect summation of the problem "animals are not ours to use, not ours to use for financial gain" so unless you give your puppies away, you will never be under Peta, AR or OL radar. How many think that bleating they do not sell their puppies for financial gain makes them a better person? Cracks me up, who is prepared to go to work for nothing, the person who wants a pet , be it an office worker, a plumber, a doctor, a nurse, a laborer every single one of them expects a fair days pay for a fair days work. yet thanks to Peta, the breeder of the puppy they want is pond scum if they think they may receive a profit from the sale. Listening to a group at a show, it amazed me how many feel they need to prove they spend more raising their puppies than they get for them. How sad they are falling for this, the hours you put in to raise a litter you should be entitled to a decent return, instead of apologising for asking a fair price for your work. It takes a lot of work to raise a litter of puppies. As the one who put up the link, said, "This needs to be watched by anyone that has livestock, pets or an interest in animals. Also people who think they have a right to tell other HOW to live/eat etc."
  18. not time for laughing. they have learned a lesson, it will be back to stealth mode again for AR, OL n co. Remember that. How long will it be remembered the attack was not just against dog breeders? Those with cats and birds were going to go down as well. Will all three be legislated against in one hit in future? I doubt that mistake will be made a second time. future legislation will be divided in their targets so only one will rise to defend itself and the AR, PETA(and its clones, and OL lot will hope none of the other potential targets will rally to the defense of the sole target.
  19. To those who contributed to its existence, they do not see that its poorly written, thank goodness they put what they did, so finally the scales were ripped off the sheep being led to the slaughter and they finally realised, that to OL, AR and RSPCA they are all considered to be puppy farmers. Until then everyone was happy to eliminate puppy farmers never thinking they would be considered to be just that. They have been amendment by amendment forced to comply to changes that in effect make them fit the parameters of a puppy farm, why? because to AR, OL and the RSPCA if you breed a female, even JUST ONE female, to them, YOU! ARE A PUPPY FARM. Finally because they were so close to realising the dream they put exactly that in their proposed legislation, one female alone made you a puppy farm, as the commission found the max of 10 was picked because it had "the vibe". nothing else to justify the figure. FINALLY they had their eyes opened, here's hoping they remember the lesson. As for the chances of them remembering and staying alert, and actually working together to prevent being ambushed again, I sure hope it is better than it has been until now. You are not dealing with reasonable people, you are dealing with fanatic's, very smart, very cunning and VERY DEDICATED. FANATICS. Their brief? the elimination of domestic pets. As the inquiry into the RSPCA proved they are a PETA clone now, PETA was infiltrating them in the 19990's obviously this has been accomplished we even have one now sitting as the Minister for Agriculture, make no mistake about that, read her words if you doubt this, don't read them with rose coloured glasses or you will miss understanding her. This work began in the 1970's, its been slow by generation standards but they are so close to winning now, this setback must have them seething with frustration. She certainly let it slip during the inquiry commission.
  20. my, never seen that model before, I think im converted now neat is that. although as said, think I would be making an elastic sided part cover around the bottom to keep in any accidents, awesome ventilation and fit our vehicle much better. thanks for that
  21. Frenchie cross Pug My Frenchie on left, Frug on right. Same price mine Mains registered, all health tests imaginable performed, delivered by breeders from Victoria to SA and incredible nature. Frug purchased online from Interstate, no history, no health testing. Sweet girl and lovely owners Gratuitous Fozzie photos :D 7th down is my favorite. priceless, stacks on the mill and then some. I saw the cutest Mini Schnauzer x mini poodle at a pet shop, cost only 2,000 and they had all been snapped up so fast I only got to see the last as he was purchased, really makes me understand why people breed them, if your out to make money why bother with a purebred, none the associated extra costs to eat out the bottom line I don't even let myself add up the costs of the dna profiling and hearing tests I do on mine to make sure they are as sound and healthy as possible. Sure don't get that, only the knowledge they are descended from a girl my hubby had over 50 years ago and love the temprement and family connection just proves my stupidity in sticking with sentiment. But couldnt do it. others can and are
  22. thats the best way, but I was dropping off a pup and was so impressed by the crate they put him in I bought one. then thought, hey I need 2 so chuffed. received this today, this is why so many prefer to breed or buy their own instead of a rescue. time will tell how long before freedom of choice no longer survives in the nanny states of australia now. "Hello This is Jodie from Mount Gambier SA I purchased a Blue bitch pup off you a couple of years ago and had her flown to Adelaide her registed name is " Callie" out of Princess by Lightning (we call her Ellie) Just thought I would just let you know she is going GREAT I couldn't be happier with her, a lot of people call her small or think she is still a puppy but I think she is the perfect size and has a perfect temperament she is a fine example of how great the breed is and we are turning heeler haters around where ever we go the usual comment I get is "I don't like heelers but I do love yours she is beautiful" half the time it feels like I am defending the entire breed because someone had a bad run in with a heeler and now don't like or trust heelers even when their owner is standing their with them on a lead?? We have been attending Obedience classes since June as I wanted a bit of me time away from the kids and I LOVE it we have moved up 2 classes already and are now in grade 2. I remember our first club competition to see if we would pass to go up to the next grade I still wasn't sure how it all worked anyway we entered and Ellie had be playing up a bit that day not behaving as she usually did in training/class, anyway I told the judge on the way in she's being a bitch but we will see how we go, and well we came out with a score of 195 out of 200 and took out first place won a ribbon and all I was so excited to show my husband when I got home, we are now into our 3rd week of Agility training and she is doing great as well, at home she climbs the ladder up into the kids cubby house which is quite high but she taught herself that just by following the kids up and down. " Um yeah asal, I just read through my original post and seriously don't understand how the rude comment about rescuing fits in. I don't really care about such and such's brilliant heeler... I wanted to know what crates people liked for a lower price. Yes my dogs are both rescues, as that is our family's choice. I was nearly going to buy a purebred Shetland sheepdog or Papillon, but then we met our rescue pup that we have now. In my opinion there should be that choice to get either a rescue or a pedigree if you wish. I love both!! Yes rescues sometimes have behavioural problems, but if you aren't up for the task then don't get one! Sorry but I don't really like someone being nasty when I was asking a completely unrelated question... it was in my head as I had just been reading that 20 pages of the http://www.parliament.vic.gov.au/ima...ember_2016.pdf and Pulford couldn't seem to see if pet shops are so unsuitable for puppies from a breeder, how on earth are they suitable for rescues, they are dogs as well too, last I looked. it wasn't meant as a dig actually, well not at the dogs, but the stupidity of Pulford who I just cant believe has the Agriculture portfolio. But I see now that's how it came out. then to receive that totally unexpected email made me realise why Ive stuck it out now that to breed your own is to be perceived to be no better than being a prostitute these days. have a bad habit of writing what im thinking. I tend to like the plastic crates because, no rust and as I mostly transport puppies in a crate, the adults share a seat and seatbelt. Puppies can throw up when you least expect it or decide they just HAVE to go and the sight of a doo, even worse a sloppy doo shooting (travelling seems to upset some just like kids) out the side of a wire crate onto the seat or seat or boot cover takes my mind totally off driving and the urge to clean up is too distracting if in traffic and cant pull over
  23. thats the best way, but I was dropping off a pup and was so impressed by the crate they put him in I bought one. then thought, hey I need 2 so chuffed. received this today, this is why so many prefer to breed or buy their own instead of a rescue. time will tell how long before freedom of choice no longer survives in the nanny states of australia now. 24. the two words dont necessarily go together. I bought a very well made and strong crate big enough to carry a medium sized border collie, kelpie or ACD in a car for $80 from Dogtainers at Mascot. even has bowls for feed and water attached inside. love it. That was brand new not second hand
