As one exhibitor told me decades ago, " I will not keep a hernia free pup if it's herniated littermate is superior conformation, it's not listed as a disqualification in the standard. I doubt you will be able to find a hernia free pup within 12 years. ". That was a few years before "pedigree dogs exposed" hit the airwaves. Scissor bite for your breed is preferred but is not listed as disqualification ditto for many breeds, I have seen many champions with undershot or level bite yet still awarded their challenge certificate because they are excellent in every other department. Its a case of assessing all the dog, the whole picture, not just one point alone. everyone has different priorities, for me hernias versus undershot? I know my priorities are very different to the breeder I had that conversation with. The perfect specimen hasn't been born, nothing is perfect

yes in fact in quite a few breeds for example shih tzu they don't want a scissor bite, they want just what she is displaying, so its not going to affect her, if thats any help to alleviate your worrys on that score, one of nancys that began to go in front of her top teeth took to pushing her thumb against bottom teeth each morning and night so they stopped leaning forward and began to straighten, bit like the dentist does when putting braces on teeth and her bottom teeth went back into alignment behind the front teeth again so back to scissor bite "Mouth: Wide, slightly undershot or level. Lips level." its all in the eye of the beholder the dog couldn't care a jot

Friend had a pup that the bottom teeth began to come forward, turned out she loved playing tug of war, the pulling was suspected to be a contributing factor, stopped the game and scissor bite returned, many change bite as the bones grew as top n bottom don't grow at same rates doesn't help

Many dogs, cats n horses pace instead of walking and trotting. Camels pace as do many donkeys and just to make it more confusing, they can amble, so four beat gait, of hind, offfore, near hind, near fore. Have noticed an awful lot of dog pace naturally, across all breeds, don't even walk, pace at walking and running speeds

The vaccine industry is pretty cavalier too, rang the manufacturer of a c3 after 8 of ten chihuahua puppies died after their first vaccination, to be told the 'new' formula was the best on the market for protection. Considering two weeks later the remaining two also died, due my vet said their immune system broke down. None of them was ever going to get any diseases all right. The chap I spoke to told me their immune system was obviously weak and better culled anyway. Some years later had 9 rag doll kittens vaccinated, next morning all were dead, all the vet could repeat was"never happened before, they must have been unwell already" totally different vet. Six months later a friend got a job there and discovered a contaminated batch had killed over 300 cats before enough vets had notified them of the unexplained deaths, and there was a recall of what was left of that batch, I for one was never told a faulty batch killed my kittens, nor compensation of even the hundreds I had paid for their deaths instead of the protection they were supposed to have received. If the vet doesn't stock canvac I walk back out now. No other brand do I trust anymore

A friend has had them for decades, wasn't interested in showing, were very healthy not sure if she is still breeding though

the problem with frenchies as my niece has discovered, he can get very overheated quickly outside on a hot day, our hot summers really distress many, some, as a friend found, Her grandmothers boy died, if they do not have access to air conditioning. Another Friend has English Mastiffs and he said if he doesn't get home and put out frozen mats for them to lay on if the temperature goes over 110, even in his air conditioned house?, he can lose one if he doesn't go home and do that.. He said the toughest part is finding a job were the boss who will let him without having a hissy fit

Think you will be thrilled as I am, to learn today that one of my Puppies won best in Group at the same show as my brother showed Misty the first pup of that breed to carry my prefix, to Best Puppy in Show in 1984. so excited for her and her happy owner, I don't breed for the showring, but for sound look alikes to the dogs I had known from childhood. almost all my puppies go on main register (unless I consider its not a true representative of its breed then it will be limit registered) but 99.9 only want them as much loved pets and I doubt a dozen have ever seen a showring or bred from in the intervening decades, although last year one won 8 best in shows for her happy owner.

I love standard poodles, my mum had Tillbrook Le Aigleon or something like that, I remember she said she was named little eagle in french, that was 1971 awesome amazing girl. mum loved to spend hours grooming and clipping her and Tilly just loved to lie there and be pampered for as long as mum took to get her looking beautiful, she was always in a lamb clip. her most noteworthy incidents aside from empeccable manners and obedience was the day a lady door knocker spotted mum in the back yard and let herself in and tapped mum on the shoulder. mum got such a fright she screamed, Tilly was off that grooming table so fast the women didnt know what hit her as tilly knocked her to the the ground and stood on her for scaring mum. She became legend the day she was spotted stopping my friends son from getting into the pool, he and nicked outside without anyone noticing he was missing. first time he did we heard him crying and found him at the foot of the stairs with Tilly holding his arm and would not let go until his mum picked him up and took him inside. half an hour later it happened again. we all wondered why Tilly was doing this. but apart from slobber on his arm there wasnt a mark. also we decided to keep a closer eye on him and sure enough out the door he nicked again as soon as he though we werent watching him, down the stairs and straight acroos to the pool, in those days no one had to fence their pool. to our amazement, Tilly who normally would be the first into the pool with you, went straight to him, grabbed his arm and pulled him back to the foot of the stairs and kept him there crying and screaming for his mum as before. somehow she knew he was not safe in the water, (he was only 3 and couldnt swim very well yet) I am sure many standard poodles are just as kind, gentle and incredably smart, just like Tilly What few people realise is they are just as protective of their family as any cattle dog too. although most people who see a cattledog on the other side of a fence wouldn't enter under any circumstances without the owner there. would go in if it was a poodle standing there instead and get quite the surprise when it gave them the "whats the password?" look . My cousins would steal anything they got their hands on and I learned very quickly the only way to secure my bedroom, (which did not have a lock on the door) was to quickly put a lead on my poodle Pickle and tie him to the leg of my bed so he had complete control of the area at my door, He never let them in and his low growl would tell me one had sneaked off to raid my room as we entertained their parents. as for him he just knew so many tricks and games , will miss him to the day I die. as much as we do Tilly. loved them to bits, it was the hours of grooming they needed to be kept to their best that I stuck with the original breed my dad always had from day I was born after old age took Tilly.

Also a uni lecturer so many happy hours keeping her company while she organised lecture notes and marked assignments. so some breeds are great companions when working at home,

rurual pug, you do not understand the the genetics of blue, there is an elle that some blues carry and some dont. the weimarinar for example is an all blue breed that the elle connected to the blue gene alopecia is not present. without genetic testing for that elle you have absolutely no idea if that new blue pup carries it I had two full brothers , one never developed blue gene alopecia, the other did, it can express in a myriad different ways , in stringys case he was only short coat along the top of his tail, along his back and to the beginning of his shoulders. so he had a huge ruff and normal long coat everywhere else. I have seen others as bald as a mexican hairless. until there is a dna test for it your best hope is look at dogs that are blue with no sign of it and whose pups do not, I suspect it is a recessive rather than a dominat but I am guessing. no body knows if the gene is linked to the blue gene or just cannot express unless the puppy is blue, there is much to learn google scids inheritance, its a recessive and can carry for generations before a boy in a plastic bubble baby is born, good luck with your brothers search

The premise looks cute, so I’m glad I missed it: at any other time I probably would have seen an online trailer and just taken my seven-year-old with me to see the Show Dogs Movie when I watched it for my review. Turns out, it appears the Show Dogs movie has some problems. After what I’ve learned about it from another parent review, I am SO GLAD my son did not see this movie. Let me explain. Terina Maldonado, parent reviewer for the Macaroni Kid website DID take her kids to see an advanced screening of the movie as part of her job with Macaroni Kid…but she came away with some seriously BAD feelings about the movie. I’ll let Maldonado explain in her own words. It all started out fine, she says: It’s when Max the police dog learns what he has to do to truly go undercover and be accepted as a legitimate show dog that the trouble with this movie starts. WHAT does Max (and apparently all the show dogs) have to submit to? Having his private parts touched and inspected. Yep. Maldonado continues: Max, of course, is NOT cool with this, and when his partner Frank and a former champion show dog try to get him to accept this process, a certain dark and very dangerous theme for kids emerges. Maldonado explains: Max needs to get it together, see, and LET PEOPLE TOUCH HIS PRIVATE PARTS, or he might lose the competition and fail at his mission to rescue the kidnapped panda. Do you see what’s happening here? Max’s success is riding on whether or not he lets both his partner (for practice) and a stranger (the competition judge) touch his private parts. IN A KIDS MOVIE. WHAT??? Newsflash, folks: THIS IS CALLED GROOMING and it’s what sexual predators do to kids! It gets worse. Maldonado describes the movie’s dramatic dog show finals scene: So a stranger touches Max’s privates and it MUST feel good because Max has gone to his happy place while being fondled. UMMM. NO. Maldonado saw the movie with not only her kids, but her husband and her mother too. After the movie, all three adults felt uncomfortable with the “private parts” stuff. She says: Maldonado then goes on to mention that she is a survivor of child abuse, and describes how she will talk to her kids about the movie and that part in particular and use it as a lesson to instill in them they lessons she’s already taught them about how “we never let anyone touch our private parts, what they should do if anyone tries.” How the script and premise for this movie EVER got approved scares the CRAP out of me! This is 100% indoctrination. I will not apologize or care if anyone thinks I am crazy for thinking so. This is letting a movie of funny cartoon dogs teach our kids that hey, “sometimes ya just gotta let someone molest you.” NOPE. Parents, do NOT go see the Show Dogs movie. And please share this so other parents won’t make this mistake before they know what’s up. The message here is WAY beyond inappropriate — it’s downright DANGEROUS for our kids! ***
