  1. It's not available in Australia and there are no plans to bring it in. 4Paws wouldn't have it.
  2. Thanks for the quick response. Your post mentions that they found it effective for ticks - did they mention how well it protects against fleas? Had a look at the webpage and it does mention flea protection however only as a side snipet to their focus on tick control. Thanks. The clients which use them feel that they work well against fleas ;)
  3. A few clients of mine swear by this for fleas and ticks, although even though I have seen their positive results with my own eyes I am still doubtful I have numerous clients that swear black and blue their tick problem has ceased since using these. http://www.miteyfresh.com.au/page/skudo_ti...r_for_pets.html
  4. I thought they were a bit dearer. I wanted some new Wahls, but thought I'd have to settle for Shear Magic. If anyone knows for sure please share!
  5. Thanks for posting this site. I buy some of those products but have to buy them from all different places, so it's fab that they can be my new one stop shop! Competitive prices too
  6. I think it would be incredibly cruel. In the salon we would always use the regular hose for cats even though most were sedated (with owner permission, by vet next door). If you call around for them there are usually salons who specialise in cats.
  7. Back when we had Border Collies, my Grandfather used to say that dogs with one blue eye had split personalities. Certainly fits with my brothers Border who has one blue eye and is very unpredictable
  8. When I was vet nursing, one of the other nurses accidently got it sprayed in her mouth
  9. Champion Tails Whitening Shampoo for horses. Great stuff and also highlights other colours too.
  10. Well I've done salon, mobile and now from home - and can still say that (for me) being mobile sucked the most I agree. Dont give out your home number. My business is from my home yet I still dont give out that number. Business calls are always to the mobile. Set your own boundaries I have clients who stick their head over my fence to book in, although it truly doesn't bother me when they do - they just get to see me before my first coffee in my jammies
  11. I agree. I would only use a franchise if one particular person had been specifically recommended (to use that one person). I have heard horror stories about some and as the above poster has said it is truly only a few weeks training, and even then the training isnt full time - so not that many hours. Great that it's worked for you and your Rott though!!
  12. Hi and Welcome. I've only heard bad things about the TAFE course. IMO any grooming course isn't going to be adequate. I wouldnt be doing training with a mobile unit either as alot of them aren't properly trained themselves, it's often just inhouse two weeks watching/learning. The best way is to go is get a job in a salon, start as a washer and work your way up to styling. It might take you a couple of years longer than planned but at least you'll be a Groomer rather than someone with a pair of clippers
  13. My 25 kilo dog gets two cups per day (or the equivalent of). But then my 47kilo dog gets only between 2-3 cups. I think it depends on the dog. But start him at around 2ish and build him up if he needs it. Easier to put weight on them than take it off.
  14. I will scissor a little off, over using a blade or attachment for a pup. I guess it depends on the owners area as I get full clips off all year round here due to ticks and majority of my clients are on acreage - so I guess one could say what does it matter that you clip puppy coats as coat is never going to be allowed to grow anyway and will always be clipped short, but I still prefer to wait til they're older.
  15. I try not to clip a pup before 7 months. I encourage the pup owner when they first call to enquire about clipping to bring the dog in for a general bath and tidy a couple of times before the clip. More often that not the first time pup comes in the owner has done a wonderful job of keeping it tangle free - they must lose interest after that as by the time they are around 6-12months the dog is an awful mess and needs to come off with a 7 (with difficulty in some areas, trying not to use a 10). Owners then get a shock at seeing non fluffy dog and swear they'll bring pup in more regularly. This rarely happens and dog is then doomed to #7 clips as owners decide they like it taken back so short after all. I find it a bit sad as they dont get to see how truly cute a fluffy can look groomed with coat still on. I'm at the point now where I almost cant fit in new clients so I may just say no dogs under 12months unless people are prepared to commit to have them bathed/brushed by me at least every 8weeks before first clip off.
  16. Ohhhhh Fifi  Im so sorry. Big hugs from all of us here So long 'little' Navarre
  17. Colin is a DOL member. I use him for all my sharpening after he came recommended from other DOL'ers. They get posted back the same day so a really quick turn around aswell as a great job! http://freewebs.com/clipperbladesharpening/
  18. Take him with you when you tell them so that they aren't cursing an unknown monster but rather, they have a visual of your cute little fluffball.
  19. Ah yes... the old machine gun snapper I do a few Borders who do this with the dryer, very disconcerting. If you are going to muzzle her, don't abuse your new found 'power'. Just go slow and be gentle - taking care around her face, or better yet leave the head area and build up to it over the next few baths. When I worked in a salon if a dog was muzzled the groomers were really awful, not stopping to think that just becuase the dog is muzzled and now under control that the dog might still be scared, and of course not ever improve. I started a few clients dogs the slow way and now they are angels - no muzzle required.
  20. So sorry Juliet looks gorgeous
  21. Clearly all his flatness is from being lonely  I have a dog on trial here atm so that will probably pick the whole familys spirits up again. Im just so thankful I didnt go along with the first vet - goes to show, if in doubt DONT! Thanks so much for all your support and via PM's of positive outcomes! Perhaps a Sticky about caring for dogs with Cancer would be a good idea? There is an invaluable amount of information via DOL'ers that Im sure posters could get alot out of. Holistic treatments, first hand experience, oncology nurse etc etc - pool all that info perhaps?
  22. Well I dont know whether to laugh or cry so have been doing both. Last time I will use a vet for proximity convenience and it certainly pays to travel to your preferred vet. George has an infected lymph node!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! more than likely from Neville who likes to sort him out from time to time. Rushing out door but will post tonight!!
