My First Shots With My New Canon 550d

 Share

Recommended Posts

Hubby surprised me with a late birthday present on our 2 day trip away, a brand new Canon 550D dslr!! I was so happy! I have been snap happy with it now and am getting used to the settings already, and haven't even had it in auto, i'm winging it

Here's a few of my shots anyway, I need to learn a lot more about the aperture and ISO and all that so I know what I'm doing.

hey excellent! Love the Shyla walking shot

re: your question when you would use a darker exposure, I'm not really sure what your asking? Low-light situation?

As far as learning, I found the book "Understanding Exposure" a great read

Lovely!!

another canon devotee here, I know what you mean, I have a great camera, 40D, but no idea!! need a lot of practice,

I get very cross with myself as in my 20s I won a lot of photo comps with my really old minolta slr. LONG before digital and photo shop etc.

The technology really scares me to death!!

Hopefully an 'old dog' can learn new tricks :):)

you are doing incredibly well!!!!

Thanks guys!! I'm reading up on exposures and things online for now, but would like to do a course of some sort in the future, the problem is finding time!!

But so far so good... I'm enjoying learning and testing out the manual settings, I've used used auto for long enough with my point n shoot!

My favorite thing will be macro shots I'm sure, but I need to get a macro lens one day to do it properly I think, I tried the macro setting with my 15-85mm but I can't get as close as I want to :(
