Amazing Dog Facts?

I'm putting together a dog quiz for our dog club xmas party - it is amazing how few amazing facts their are about dogs on the www as they all seem to have copied from each other!

So, have you got a great fact about dogs, dog breeds or anything related to dogs, that would be a good quiz question (so not to difficult for most people but hard enough so everyone doesn't get every question correct!)

Greyhounds have no odour.

Except late at night, silently, when their bums are right near your head..

I'd be including things that are sort of.. anti-"facts", if you get what I mean. Like how people think greyhounds are "the oldest breed in the world" and "mentioned in the bible" when neither of those things are actually true (but very widely believed).

Dogs see more colours than shades of grey

http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/canine-corner/200810/can-dogs-see-colors

They're quite good at blue. So it's good to wear a blue shirt for your dog to see you at a distance. They're not so good at red. Or Orange. Or all the safety shirt colours.

You could have a bunch of pictures - guess the breed

and some more pictures - name the movie character...

eg Lassie, RinTinTin, Red Dog, Benji, Hooch, Hector from Tweetie Pie cartoons.

Sports dogs - name three dog sports. (or more).

Name three (or more) dog professions

eg

guide dog

therapy dog

search and rescue dog

(drug) sniffer dog

police tracking dog

cancer detecting dog

termite detecting dog

bomb detection dog

quarantine dog...

Dogs in history

First dog in space (tho that's a bit obvious)

name of Egyptian god with dog's face

name of dog that guarded the gates to the underworld/dead (Greek/Roman)

name of wolf that looked after romulus and remus (founders of rome)

What did

Where is the dog on the tucker box (and why).

Where is the kelpie muster?

What does ANKC stand for?

Depending on your target audience you could make up some multiple choice questions for dog showing and sport jargon translators eg

What is a "blind cross"?

What is a "front cross"

What does "finish" mean?

What does OC stand for?

How many weave poles are there in a competition set, and how far apart are they meant to be in ANKC (or format of your choice) Agility rules.

And a selection of Rally Obedience signs and dogs performing or not performing them correctly (if you have video) eg you could put a sign up and have three people doing the what the sign is and the quiz people have to choose the right performance.

Who won britain's got talent in 2012? (or What did Ashley and Pugsley do in 2012) or (a little bit harder to google) play a bit of the music and ask what the connection with a dog is.

And maybe some questions about your club and their committee - eg who is club treasurer? or Who founded the club (and what year).

again if you have audio visual - maybe get them to read something and ask who it is... Or ask who won what dog club award last year or the most of them.

Who did Lynley Dodd write about?

What was a Drover's Dog supposed to be able to do in 1983?

What was the name of Salt Bush Bill's dog? (there's more than one correct answer)

Trick question - What was the name of the dog in Footrot flats.

Thanks for the suggestions, some are a bit to Aus based for a UK show training club but still plenty to work with

Rappie - guessing the answer is no as the clavicle is used for muscle attachments for tree swingers and i don;t think we have a breed of dog that does that!

Correct - though cats will sometimes have a vestigal one!

Awesome questions. I was trying to think of some for you, but only just thought of one this morning (standing in the Big W photo lab, how random), breed names that are also locations or immediately derived from locations (Eg Dalmatian - Dalmatia coast, Newfie, Labs)
