  1. I discovered the busy road safety zone, also large busy parks , although some diehard off leash folk persist in using the small local park on the weekends, they ignore the parents and on leash dog walkers comments or respond with rudeness. They bring their large dogs and throw tennis balls ballistically so their dogs can run at great speed around the park scaring everyone. Just another case of people being inconsiderate to others and feeling entitled to do it. I had one female say to me that the park ranger had told her she could use this park for her dogs, I said "Really well lets get the police here and see what they have to say". She then left the park with her wolves, shouting obscenities as she went. She was actively teaching her dogs it was ok to rush human beings by throwing the ball into the play area and over people's heads. Dogs chasing after balls are not rushing people or other dogs usually. They are chasing after the ball. I am always quite relaxed when I see a ball focused dog as they tend not to bother you at all.
  2. Were is the fun in that? huh? Post of the threads in this section would only get to one page!
  3. Did you try her website? https://topturnout-australia.miiduu.com/
  4. Gold Giving a lawyer a lesson in law was really quite funny!
  5. Some kennels have 'suites' that have private runs. Perhaps that would work? I know this place has one as I spoke to them a couple of weeks ago - http://www.dogdayz.com.au/a/Contacting-Dogdayz-Boarding-Kennels. I spoke to the Silvan Kennel. Cottage Kennels also gets a good feedback and again you can have your dog by itself. http://www.cottagekennels.com.au/index.html
  6. What if the dog wasn't actually coming at them in an aggressive manner. Not really sure why you are addressing that to me as it is irrelevant to my comment.
  7. What if the dog turned at the same time the gun was fired?
  8. I am going to suggest further testing on the liver too. Did she have a bile test? My dog had itches and crystals too. Her blood test wasn't too extreme and possibly wouldn't have triggered many alarm bells but the vet had already seen that her liver was strange via an ultrasound. Is your dog a normal size & weight? The fact that she was sick on the raw diet is also very suspicious.
  9. This man makes really good quality stuff. http://www.funkycat.com.au/products/cat-and-dog-steps/
  10. I only seem to react to the saliva of certain coloured animals, those that are agouti. I noticed it first with horses. Never had a problem with my grey horse and started to react to a bay pony and then a buckskin pony. Never had cat issues until I got the birman cats. Luckily my sable dog isn't very licky!!
  11. Up to the Council's discretion once they've concluded the investigation. Ill bite - why is it up to the council's discretion ? It's always up to the individual Council's discretion what action to take following a dog attack or any breach of the Act. One Council would fine this woman, another Council would decide that losing her finger is punishment enough and warn her. You'll get a different response to the same attack depending on where it happened. Some will declare the dog dangerous, others will declare it a nuisance, others will issue a Court Attendance Notice and go for a Control Order instead. My council actually left it up to me to decide what action should be taken. I thought that was very unfair. It was a pretty nasty attack too and I believe a smaller dog would have been killed.
  12. I always get an XL in those sort of jackets in case I want to wear jumpers underneath. I spent heaps on a Kathmandu coat so was a bit peeved when I saw those!
  13. I, too, find it quite extraordinary that someone who has admitted they have become too frigtened to walk their dogs should be told to get over it. I'm still shaking from an experience this evening whereby a large dog rushed the fence of a children's playground while I walked past with my five little dogs. The dog was illegally in the playground (notices on all gates) and there were only two small children in the playground with the dog. A young boy had the dog by the collar trying to hold him (no lead of course) and the boy was being dragged along the ground by the dog. The boy was not harmed, was grinning his head off and obviously thought the whole thing a great lark. I was terrified that the gates might not be secure. I am in the process of writing to the council. Was the nuf nuf parent not around?
  14. I wish you would stop coming into these threads and crapping on about how you don't have problems and all is wonderful in dog walking world. But you don't. So don't try and tell me not to call people nuf nufs. I really don't give a stuff who is reading this either.
  15. If you stick to the high path past the offlead area at Lilydale lake you should be fine. I haven't had a dog run up there so far from the offlead area. Dorset golf course is a nice walk. Fairly quiet. You do get the odd person with their dog offlead were they shouldn't be but it is pretty polite there. The bike riders are more polite too there than at Lilydale Lake! There is an offlead area that you might want to avoid but it is a big area so easy to stay away from other people. Rangers do lurk around fining people for having dogs offlead on the path. Emerald park lake is all onlead. Didn't have any issues there either. Warburton trail is onlead but the bikes can be a menace. Actually the only place around here that I find a bit nerve racking is Warrandyte river! Just from the volume of dogs really.
  16. Rainy days are good :) Also avoid the weekends. I find the real nuf nufs tend to come out for their once a week walk on the weekend. Oh and public holidays! People around here are pretty good so I am starting to relax. Had a funny situation the other week when I decided to duck into a driveway to get out of the way of 2 oncoming dogs. I waited and waited and finally stuck my head out. The other people had also ducked into a driveway and we were all just waiting!!! So far I am mostly being pleasantly surprised at people's politeness in controlling their dogs. My doggy walk is my fav part of the day.
  17. I just took a Ziggy look alike home. Found him out on a rather busy road. Was slightly concerned as I approached with my dogs but could see he looked scared. Ushered him back inside and knocked on the door. Owners were pleased that I had bothered. He wasn't super happy about me being there with my dogs but my girls were very good and just ignored him. I would approach this sort of situation with care regardless of the breed. I wouldn't go into a yard with a dog. Black dogs don't bother me as such but there are a heap of big black dogs around here that just aren't very nice. They look like Lab crosses. They wouldn't be nice if they were pink!
  18. Me and the dogs got attacked by a cat yesterday!! Frigging thing came under a fence yowling and swiping! The dogs were very sweet and just looked to me to fix the problem. I wonder what would have happened if one of the dogs had chomped it.
  19. Then I would hope that you have them well contained. And I mean well contained and not in the average backyard.
  20. I was a very snobby dog food person until I was faced with a very sick dog that needed a prescription diet. I was horrified by the ingredients in the food. But I trusted a Yahoo group who said she had to have this food. The dog has done so well on the food that it has totally changed my view on feeding dogs. I now don't care about anything but feeding a food that the dog does well on.
  21. My gut said not to put them in a kennel so I am not going away. I don't really trust a pet sitter type person either. Too many people think that they know best and might feel sorry for the vegetarian dog and give her some meat as a little bit isn't going to hurt!
