  1. It must be the media's fault. All the maulings by poodles & cavvies just aren't being reported!
  2. This bath has a heater, so I only need access to a cold tap...right? You'll need to look at how the bath works. You might find that you have to rinse with cold water or wait for the water to reheat in a single tank. I personally find waiting for the water to heat up annoying and would prefer to use a hot tap.
  3. I could read what the dog was thinking but I had no idea what intention the kids had!
  4. I had 1 large black dog and 3 toddlers barreling towards me and the dogs last Saturday. The 'owner' didn't have control over any of them. I didn't know if I should be more worried about the kids or the dog
  5. If you read my kenneling thread you will see I am having some issues with this too. One of dogs has a liver condition and there is no way to tell how long she will be around for. She is only 3. I am concerned about her care if I went away and also if it would stress her. I was only going for a couple of nights too but they would end up in the kennels for about 4 nights. In this case I would talk to the vet and get their opinion. I remember going to the vets bawling my eyes out once as I thought I was taking my dog in to be put to sleep. The vet fixed her up and she lived another 3 years!
  6. It was made for horses originally and I've found horse products are often greasy on dogs. Looking at the ingredients it is pretty much what something like a Pantene detangling product would contain :)
  7. Good luck for Bruno's operation. Hoping for the best result for you.
  8. I think I am so stressed about it because I have had a dog die overnight. I haven't really left the dogs for long periods of time since then. 4 hours at the most.
  9. So sorry about Bruno. I would be furious with the vets.
  10. The first place I mentioned does have someone living on the property. The kennel staff must leave at 5.00pm though. The other place is ran by owners. But if they are locking the dogs up at dark that isn't much past 5.00pm anyway.
  11. I guess I thought there would be some sort of night time check. Another kennel I spoke to said that they put the dogs in as it is getting dark and don't check them again until morning. They said that checking them stirs them up too much.
  12. I've never kenneled the dogs before. I just don't go away! This is impacting on life so I am looking into kennels so I can go away. Just spoken to one kennel and there are no staff members checking the dogs from 5pm until 7am. Is that normal?? Seems a long time that the dogs are unsupervised.
  13. A friend just got one of these special dogs. I was slightly suspicious when I saw the photos and it had a goldy type coat and white face and chest markings. I am very polite though and didn't say anything. Said friend then told another friend that they got the puppy from a pet shop but not to tell me as I would go around to their house and stab them. Quite funny really.
  14. Does anyone have any feedback on the Coldstream Animal Aid boarding kennels? It isn't a place I would think to use normally but they have a vet there which might be handy with Amber (has liver shunt). PM any negative feedback! Ta
  15. I purchased in a shop. Also got some free rosehip oil! Stating dose for a human is 10 capsules. Got to say that the amount you have to swallow is putting me off a bit!
  16. I just got the human one from Chemist Warehouse for $33.95 for 250 capsules.
  17. Both my current dogs are happy to be patted and will take any food offered but they will not work for other people. You will get a couple of steps out of them if you are lucky and then they are looking for me. They don't tend to sit either if other people tell them to. My other female border collie was the same. The 2 males would have worked for anyone that had food! Amber does love the postman though She might run away with him!
  18. I would question whether the child has even been attacked or whether dogs have just approached her?
  19. Yes, they have tried and tested many different breeds in police and protection roles to make comparisons so perhaps finish the story by telling us why they didn't continue with those breeds in the mainstream roles..........in fact, the only breed that has ever replaced the GSD in police/protection roles is the Belgian Malinois.......no formal K9 units have replaced herding breeds with Bull breeds which for the most part is down to versatility trainability and consistency in working aptitude. The Rottweiler is a usable breed however lacks endurance over the herding breeds, the Doberman like the Giant Schnauzer lack in bloodlines producing required traits and character..........the rest are not even close, fact :D Rottweilers are a herding breed. They were originally bred to herd the Romans' cattle as they invaded countries to ensure their armies were fed. Then they herded cattle to market and carted the meat to town to sell it. Yes they were too......I thought under the ANKC groups that Rottweilers weren't a recognised herding breed? They are recognized and they do very well too.
  20. It sounds like the child was bitten near the mouth. This could increase the number of stitches needed in comparison to a bite of the same size on the arm. If the lip was bitten through then you would be looking at internal and external stitches. So it could just have been a bad bite rather than a mauling. Really this is all just speculation though.
  21. I have one of the sliding plastic ones. I found it just heavy enough to be annoying to use. Found it easier to just pick the dog up.
