  1. I do find it very painful to have to explain to strangers about why Amber is little etc. Maybe the lady was having a day were she couldn't be bothered explaining.
  2. Would those 2x4 biscuits do anything? Amber's teeth are great and I reckon there is something about her Prescription food that it causing that. Poppy has some tartar on her teeth. I guess I could lock Amber up and feed Poppy a bone but would feel a bit mean doing that.
  3. The private training clubs don't seem to do much in the way of obedience comp training. No ring craft or ring run throughs etc. They seem much more geared towards pet ownership. Some are doing a bit of agility now but not sure how serious they are about that or whether it is just fun stuff. So that leaves the affiliated clubs. The club needs to have the same basic training philosophy as me and after that distance is important as most seem to train on a Sunday morning and I would prefer not to have to be out at the crack of dawn! I would use a private instructor. Love private lessons. Don't seem to be many people around offering this either.
  4. Idiot. What hope have we got when supposed experts don't even know what they're on about? Were did you get that the vet said 'lock jaw' from? She certainly did not use that term during this interview. The journo said 'lock jaw'. Absolutely correct. However, on the Seven News Melbourne report, the same Dr Sharee Maas states @ 1'19'' 's/he had a lock jaw so he wasn't going to move his head off that dog. I managed to get a vein and anaesthetise that dog'. http://au.news.yahoo.com/vic/latest/a/-/article/17536298/two-women-mauled-in-dog-attacks/ Just saying. Ta. If they had gone the other way they would easily have reached the area that I walk in. I find it rather sad that they had dug through the wet concrete to get out. Sad for the owners who had obviously tried to fix the problem.
  5. It was fairly obvious that this was a troll thread.... agree. Yet, no one has been trolling. True it has been quite educational. Would you like me to get the ball rolling? How about we discuss other band breeds? I would like to get a Rolling Stones pup, to go with my Cold Play bitch. I would like to get a Def Leppard puppy, but I'm not a fan of long hair. Geez I would have thought that with all your extensive training experience that you would know better!!!! It's true, I have had extensive training experience in trolling. Do you think we should eradicate band breeds? Reeks of eugenics to me. Then what would we be left with? No more Genesis puppies, and a whole lot of Phil Collins puppies. No thanks! Not sure there is any place for talk of Band breeds on this forum. tut tut

  10. I do use them as I can't give one of my dogs any bones or meat. Don't think they are doing much but as others have said the dogs enjoy them.
  11. I got very worried about one of my border collies as she was sooo sad when her friend passed away. I only had the 2 dogs and ended up getting a puppy ASAP. She picked up a bit when the new puppy arrived but sort of aged. When Brock died Amber looked and looked for him. Was heartbreaking to watch. Hugs CnB
  12. Marli unfortunately passed away not long after this thread She had Cushings.
  13. Totally different symptoms from Amber and other dogs with shunts that I know.
  14. Walking through the park this morning I spotted a man and dog up ahead. Both of us popped our dogs on the leads and passed by giving a nice distance and a friendly hello. All dogs also happy trotted along and were let back off once we had passed. :D Wish all encounters were like that!
  15. Have you done any tracking with them Amanda? That might be a new fun thing to do which might help with the seekback? I assume there isn't a conflict between the 2?
  16. Mine don't care and glare at me if I am not walking them because of the rain. Poppy is a bit precious about sitting in the wet grass though as I remembered last Sunday when she 'forgot' her automatic sit!
  17. I don't approach. Both me and the dogs are snobs ...snobs with common-sense! Yeah. I haven't done the beach thing yet as it does bother me. I try to avoid stand around type off lead areas.
  18. I don't approach. Both me and the dogs are snobs
  19. It seems like if you have cute looking fluffy dogs then this is the reaction. If you have other dogs people might want to punch you! People always think I am concerned about their dogs when I put mine back on lead! I am either trying to stop mine from approaching the people or I don't want them being bossy to the other dog.
  20. 2 times in the last week I have put my dogs back on lead in an off leash area. The first time was because the other person had little toddlers with her, the second time the man was elderly. My dogs tend to be very enthusiastic about saying hi to people, so I like to have them on lead. Both times the other people couldn't control their dogs. Neither dog approached in a fairly friendly manner which caused Poppy to guard me. Luckily there wasn't much trouble either time but one dog did get told off for being rude. But I had control of my dogs and the other people didn't. Had I then had a third encounter in the same week I may have reacted in what would have seemed to be an out of control manner! Not that I would actually punch someone but I would have got fairly cross. I would be fairly feral about your dog Aidan as I have had a very bad experience and do get tense with that breed now. Get a bit of PTSD if they run at me. Funnily after the attack I did a heap of dog with the attacked dog to make sure he was ok but I forgot about me! I guess you just don't know what history is provoking the reaction. Like the whole ape thing! When I am in an off leash area I always put mine back on lead if I see an on lead dog approaching.
  21. I stayed here with the border collies when I was homeless for a night - http://www.goodwoodbandb.com.au/
  22. The concern may also be what happens to the product whilst entering Australia or how the product is made overseas ie does it have contents from China.
  23. I always emphasized that the class time was to show the handlers what to do but that the real training went on at home.
  24. Sometimes you can trick allergies if you don't use the product all the time. So try having say 3 kibbles that are ok and rotate them on a daily basis.
