  1. She didn't. Apparently if you say anything about a large dog doing something wrong you are a dog hater. You can complain about little dogs all you like though! Thank god, megan! I thought I was losing what few marbles I've got. Especially as the very sensible OP had already acknowledged the strength imbalance when anything goes wrong. That doesn't make anyone anti big dog.... There's such a difference when our tibbie stands on my toe.... & when our relatives' newfoundland does so. That's all the thread was about.... & the OP already knew that. It is a long running squabble...... Mainly in the news section.
  2. there is this one Jules--> My link it doesn't have the MSM though This was the last human one I used - http://www.wagnerhealth.com.au/wagner-msm-joint-formula I actually got it for me but didn't like drinking it! Most chemist stock it. I am currently using Joint Guard which is twice as expensive and I wouldn't say it has been any better.
  3. I like to give glucosamine that also has MSM and chrondritin. That is usually in a powder form.
  4. I had 2 dogs for years, went to 3 and then to 4 and back to 2 all in a fairly short time frame. I actually prefer 2. I can do more with them in terms of taking them out for the day or away for weekends. I am planning a fair bit of going away for weekends and with 3 it would be much more of a handful. 2 fit into the car better too. I did use to take all 3 away to herding days. I would now consider only having one dog. Never thought I would say that! I found 4 dogs easier than 3. You could take 2 out and still leave 2 at home. I had cats and ponies as well so it was pretty chaotic and I did feel all I was doing was feeding animals. It was lovely in some respects but the quality of time with each animal just wasn't there. I always felt one missed out a bit as he was so easy going.
  5. My shooting instructor used to say "practice makes permanent, perfect practice makes perfect" and totally agree that it applies here as well :) And it is up to the handler to create the perfect practice :) Set it up so the dog does do it perfectly so you can reward. If you walk 2 steps away instead of 1, tell yourself no not the dog!
  6. On your first day, you were being greedy :) Step in front at the most. I do a bit of stepping to the side before I step in front. And only the right leg first. So the dog is getting used to you moving a bit and learning to stay put.
  7. I wouldn't be walking away on the first day training the stay. If the dog is creeping then imo you have gone too far away.
  8. I don't know anything about kidneys but wanted to give you hugs. If you don't get much response, post in the health bit. Not that many people come into this bit. There was some angst about it a while ago.
  9. I think, considering the fact that the dog had had difficult labours in the past and had no live offspring, you are completely justified in blaming the owner. I certainly blame her. If your beloved pet reaches a certain age and you know she can't bare a litter of puppies safely, why would you not have her desexed?! Sometimes you can't desex a dog for medical reasons.
  10. I've just stayed at one of these houses down at Rye. http://www.oceanbluecoastalretreats.com.au/ There are 10 properties, all allow dogs. I stayed at Ocean Blue. Lovely property. Had a fenced dog safe area. Dogs are allowed inside too. Not too far to the leash free beach at Blairgowrie.
  11. Welllllll I do own a dog whose highest drive is pack drive :) Therefore pats and being told she is clever is worth more to her then food or toys. She likes food as a training reward but I can do without it. I wouldn't say she is particularly high drive for a BC but as she is a BC she is higher drive then a lot of dogs. I normally get told off because my food is too big though! The little poppet was doing beautiful off lead heeling at the beach today of her own accord just so I could tell her how lovely she is. :) That was when she wasn't running up to various people so they could pat her. She is really quite a strange dog! She is loving rally because I can tell her how marvelous she is. Amber is actually my first BC that will not just work because she loves me
  12. LP asked WHERE she could take her dogs. She didn't ask for a debate on whether she could or should take her dogs in the bush.
  13. http://parkweb.vic.gov.au/explore/parks/kurth-kiln-r.p. You get some bikes and horses in there but it is a big area. I haven't met other people when I have been riding in there.
  14. Have you been to Kurth Kiln in Gembrook way? Dogs are allowed in there.
  15. Some substances are ok to give to an animal. Some are not. I would have put nurofen in the 'not' category but I am obviously not a vet. If you do a basic google you get a 'no' too. Cats are tricky with pain medication. Without an autopsy though I think it is hard to say if it was the drug 100% or the attack. I do think the vet was wrong to suggest nurofen.
  16. The owner may not have personally taken stuff off Dogzonline. You can buy lists of information. A similar thing happened to a company I worked for. We purchased a list of contact details, these had been taken from another website, the other website found out and were quite grumpy.
  17. lol. I avoid Goldies. They are rude dogs and don't seem to realise that my dogs don't appreciate dogs bouncing around like nutbags right in front of them or on them!

  19. If I want to use a treat to move the dog out of position (which isn't really a reward), I will reward in position and then they get a 'freebie' to move them out of position. I've found too much treat throwing leads to too much ground sniffing and looking for treats. Plus I want the good thing to very obviously come from me, 'Mummy has the treats'.
  20. She gets really dirty ears. They aren't infected just grotty. Last time I spoke to the vet about it she did think that it was possibly a food allergy thing.
  21. What is your aim in teaching this Wobbly? Focus? to get pivots? If you heeled like Denise in Victoria half the judges would ping you for crowding! I have been playing with it for pivots the last couple of days and it has been working well. I don't need physical contact with the dogs as they are watching the hand and following it without the contact. I reward in position. I might then throw a second bit of food but there is always some reward in position.
  22. I don't think Poppy's coat is as shiny on the VIP BUT she doesn't shake her head or scoot when on it. I felt guilty about feeding it and went back to Holistic Select and she started shaking her head again and scooting. I didn't really feed Earthborn long enough to comment on it but didn't notice anything good or negative.
  23. There are 2 in the free shipping section :)
  24. The original poster made a typo and wrote band breed instead of banned. We were just having a bit of fun with it.
  25. ???? why should you have to? I shouldn't have to but not sure what to say. The convo usually goes something likes this: Person: How old is she, is she a puppy (no idea why people always ask how old the dogs are!!) Me: She is 3 Person: oh she is little Me: ........... I guess I could just say yes she is a runt. It doesn't help that my other dog is built like a brick shithouse
