Cool!

I don't think I would put Amber in a kennel. I don't think I would leave her at a vets either unless they had good sized runs. I adjust food and medicine on a daily basis depending on what is happening with her. This pretty much means I am not going on hols unless she comes with me. It is a problem.

Carrot, watermelon, strawberries, popcorn (if dog is ok with corn).

PA is it time to consider his quality of life? Not a nice thought I know.

Having Trouble Sourcing Hills Prescription Diet
JulesP replied to best4koda's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My dog does not have allergies. Her liver doesn't work properly and can not process meat. Therefore she has to eat a vegetarian diet. The diet also needs to be low in sodium and also needs to be low purine. For my dog soy is not a 'filler' is is quality protein that is easier for her liver to process. Hills L/D is not the best diet for a dog with the condition my dog has, RC Hepatic is. This is not available in Australia. Cheap supermarket food is actually better for Amber then super premium food. It would still make her sick though as it has meat products in it. The last time I gave her a lamp flap she had a seizure. -
Big hugs. You fought so hard for Charlie and gave him a great life. RIP Charlie

Really? I think if you look at the ratings you will see that they haven't rated the prescription range because they understand that the rules change when treating an illness. -

Last time I went to the vets the dry was still out of stock. They have an order in for and haven't called so I assume it still hasn't turned up. I am using the K/D dry instead at the moment. -
Not far fetched at all. There is such a device. The horsey one is called a bioscan. It scans the body finds ouchies and you can then use it to treat the ouchy. Does work on dogs too. I know a Victorian agent but not a SA one.

How Do You Amuse Your Dog When You Are Sick?
JulesP replied to Staffyluv's topic in General Dog Discussion
I walk them anyway, lol. But I just do a loop around my offlead area, they get a good run and it isn't super far for me to trudge. -
A very interesting keeping dog busy trick that I read on here years ago was chicken frames tied to the branches of a tree. Imagine a dog could have a bit of fun with that for a while!

My border collie Fern snapped a ligament which caused the patella to slip out of joint. She was operated on, had the required crate rest, then the onlead stuff etc etc. The operation failed. The vet thought that the repair had snapped and gave me such a low % for a second op to work that I chose not to do it. Fern was never 3 legs off the ground lame constantly. The lameness came and went, as in leg off the ground. If I gave her a bit of a massage that usually seemed to fix it. Eventually scar tissue formed around the knee and whilst she didn't look sound it didn't cause her any issues. This happened when she was about 3yo and she passed at 15yo. She got some arthritis in her back but don't know if she would have got that anyway. I did retire her from dog sports as I didn't like her jumping. Next time Kenzie looks really lame, pick the leg up and gently bend it. See if that helps to slip the knee back in.

I wouldn't be classing him as a reactive dog just yet. Sounds like a fairly normal puppy. Take him back to class, keeping him by himself isn't going to help matters. Most of the puppies at puppy school do just want to play, they are babies. You go there and learn what you need to do and then do the work at home. You get some serious little border collies that look like they have already been trained the rest are busy making their parents look silly. At this stage forget going for a walk. Your outings are for training.

That is disappointing that she would leave Roo considering she is a pet minding service but it proves what I said about most people wanting to go out even if they are home. I work from home but still go out to the shops or gym. The person would need a tiger proof run if they want to go out.

So very sorry Jans -
What always baffles me is how do the loose dogs owner know that MY dogs are ok? They don't obviously. So yelling out 'don't worry he/she is friendly' is super annoying. I have to yell back 'mine aren't'. Sometimes I wish I had a pitbull!
-
This is true. I've even had people assure me their dog is friendly when all its hackles are up!
-
I wonder what the man in question would think about all this info being posted about him. I would be very pissed off myself. This is a very weird thread.
-
Sorry that Bonn isn't well.

The owner walks his dog onlead, takes it to the vet, spent $1500 on training, tried to stop the boxer from entering the vets etc - that doesn't sound like an owner that doesn't give a crap to me. If a kid on a skateboard rode right past my dogs on the path I would be telling them off too.
-
Can you just tell them that you are worried he is going to get squished? That worked with my old neighbors. They had no fences and their dog kept coming across to my place. In the end I said that I was totally freaked out that she was going to get squished and that I really didn't need that stress. A fox had been squished a couple of days before and I thought it was their dog as I drove up. Do you know that they know that the dog is out? Maybe they don't know if he is getting out early.
-
I think it's possible, lots of elderly people don't go out much, I know my mum's neighbours are rarely out, I think it's worth asking around the neighbourhood anyway just in case. They still might need to go out to get milk or something. It would really tie you down. Murphy's law that if you said you didn't have to go out that you would need to! Maybe someone that was disabled? Maybe Jelly could pick up their groceries on the way home. I wonder if the Salvos or a care group would know of someone.

Determining The Food Your Dog Does Best On
JulesP replied to Salukifan's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I am not a huge fan of small hard poos :) I know when Poppy was on super premium she had little poos but often seemed to have trouble going and sometimes even yelped a bit. On a less premium diet the poos are a bit bigger but she doesn't have trouble going to the toilet. With Amber and her liver condition I have to keep her poos the consistency of soft serve ice-cream. The food moving a bit quicker through her system helps with the toxins. -
I think it is going to be pretty much impossible to find someone to look after Roo. The person would need to not leave the house from 9-5. Or have a very secure dog run. Even someone that is at home most of the day is going to have to go out sometimes. Are there any boarding kennels near you? Or any dog breeders? They might be cheaper then the doggie day care.
