  1. a collective AWWWWWW :) The face of that lab boy ............... *melt*
  2. i don't think they are suitable for baby pups - Your pup is NOT a baby pup ...and I would perhaps find a different trainer ;) but .. Not sure about now ..but back in my previous life I trained many many guide and therapy dogs using chain collars - these were dogs who were working in public, and needed to be bombproof, friendly and of solid temperament :) Most were - and those that were not were born that way .
  3. Haven't looked. Mitchell used to tremble all over - and chatter his teeth - LOUD , others in the waiting room could hear . He hated the vets .
  4. welll- dogs CAN live happily never going to a park with other dogs :) - said partly light heartedly - there are dogs to bee seen on walks, at Club/events ..and there are organised 'playdates', where the dogs can hoon around safely . . if a dog is taught to toilet on command , then the mess can be kept to a particular spot, too - so there is no need to visit a park for that purpose ....
  5. A thought? have you tried the obedience bit on a footpath away from a main road ? Working on a footpath can be good - as there are often cooking smells /kids/ the odd cat /folks on 'gophers' - all that stuff :)
  6. IMO, the majority of folks use parks as a place for R&R ..and for their dogs to "play with others" . Someone expecting to work seriously and undisturbed ? A rare happening! I suggest buying/using one of these - how are folks/and their dogs to know to give you a wide berth otherwise?
  7. What if you cut back on the walks - and do different things with him instead?
  8. Agree - vet check on heart /joints, etc ..then probably a change in feeding .Also take him out for walks very early ,and maybe late at night when it's cooler. is there a destination he enjoys? coffee shop/beach/friend's house? that could increase his motivation :)
  9. Hi - make sure your boy has plenty of mental exercise /training/interactive toys . :) use fly traps and repellent ..and contact a behaviourist if it seems the dog is obsessed with chasing/catching flies to extremes- as it can become a big problem.....
  10. I like snakes, as a creature ..but am petrified when they are around the house ...as most Summers we lose a dog, or chooks, or something.
  11. http://www.forbesadv...tten-by-public/ he had previously picked the snake up, and shifted it off the road ... The snake was obviously a bit ticked off/confused. The man in question has learnt a lesson or three ;) I have always stood stock still .. even when very young .. a snake was with me when I was watering the plants in Mum's fern house ..I stood still, and sprayed the snake gently with water ...kept it there & happy until someone despatched it.
  12. my work here is done ............. :) Wish I could afford it - I think it's a nice thing .
  13. poor old fella - he is obviously feeling pretty unwell, and worried , and so very tired. gussy cat picks the worst time!! Now she will be ticked off with everyone ;) for you & your tribe!
  14. small, but deadly? Went to feed my bantams ..& jumped 3 feet backwards after seeing a 4 foot long brown snake on the floor of the aviary! As it had some twigs on it ..I guessed it was no longer alive - found a (very) long stick , tapped, poked ..& was proven correct . One gorgeous, bright and healthy looking dead reptile. hmmmm... on closer inspection, it had a couple of bloodied patches ... so I presume it was attacked by the banties , who injured it, or it injured itself trying to escape , causing death by internal bleeding, probably . Bantams & chicks are all fine . I almost feel sorry for the snake ..he was on mouse patrol it seems .... Still - one less to be concerned about with dogs & humans ....
  15. just noticed this ... and thought I'd share , that's all. ;) CLICK HERE
  16. CC - LOVE that video . Dog? What dog .... I just see a blur every so often :D
  17. contact DOL members Cosmolo or Erny they are both excellent professionals :)
  18. When you say 'horns' - are they with or without bone ? Horns & antlers are obviously different materials . It's an interesting thought - our dogs have never really shown an interest in chewing horns - perhaps they need some sort of treatment ....
  19. I think if dogs are heritage listed , then sheep/horses/cows/apples.... all that stuff should as well ;) humans probably could have survived without dogs - but not without grains & fruits ....
  20. Thanks folks ... appreciated .
  21. ...and it may not be an allergy ....
  22. yes - the little torte kitten (Miss Moppett) I had organised to adopt was found dead alongside a baby brown snake in the cat enclosure at her foster mums place very sad ...the foster carer was devastated .
