  1. ..and , as dogs are DOGS, and not humans - there is NO need to 'help' Lace feel better when she gets home - don't go guilt buying--- or fuss over her 10 times more than usual , OK ? She will NOT worry about what has been - or what you may or may not have done. Just be practical, and sensible, and loving - keep to as normal a routine as you can - and that will help her just slot back into your home . Do you have everything needed at home for her convalescence ? like ramps etc ready if she is not allowed to jump/go up& down steps? A nice big and comfy crate where she can rest safely .. puzzle toys/treats - and a list of things she can learn while healing ? :)
  2. and having a REALLY long string on it in case he eats it anyway???
  3. perhaps fit Spencer with a nice soft plastic muzzle ? I did this with one of my dogs after surgery for a foreign body .. he wore it most of the time for about 12 mths ;) ( apart from playing/training/eating bones etc ) also either have some way of stopping the dog getting into your brother's room? I also agree in giving teh bill to your brother!
  4. ..a face rub by an owner is VERY different, IMO to an open hand - PAT PAT PAT on the top of the head that I see so many people do I have seen dogs bite (unknown) kids who went up to them and hugged them . I think it's a good list for non-dog-savvy people !!
  5. :) that sort of question is why a good professional's advice is so valuable - it is what they have studied and learned ,and worked with .. it's like going to a specialist if the first aid kit and/or GP can't fix a problem :)
  6. yes, tend to agree with T - checking is important , and there are ways to do bandaging and protect feet/in between toes ... Looking forward to good news about her hip !
  7. Ok - What training /exercise does your dog do each day ? Does he go to teh beach, parks, shops? Does he know any tricks? :) Does he spend a lot of time at home alone- ? Have you had his eyesight and hearing tested at all? he seems to have a few problems , you have mentioned he startles, is timid ..and does odd things - poor lad - I really think you are correct , and the problems in your household are not anything you, and "the internet" can comfortably fix. It's good that you are doing research , and now, with what you know , you will better understand why you need personal help from a professional :) I am not in a position to recommend anyone other than the team at K9 pro - they are fantastic with all things dog - and especially these sorts of happenings. if you CLICK here you will get to info on Steve and the services provided . It would also be a BIG advantage if you can get your dog checked out by a VETERINARY BEHAVIOURIST , as the signs he is showing may actually be coming from a disorder in his brain , or an illness .... For recommendations of REPUTABLE and very experienced professionals - just ask on here - this is not a simple "training" issue - as you have found out ...
  8. I know you worked hard with him - and I know you hurt. Run now, Jesse- no more problems ...
  9. maybel - pleease have a look in the 'dogs for sale' - mature section :) I have just been for a browse, and wish I had a fortune and a mansion . I would have added a standard poodle, a whippet girl, and a couple of others ! CLICK HERE to have a looksee :)
  10. "yep - I know MY toy is just here- BUT, I really plan to demolish the rest of this toilet roll, if you don't mind" Sometimes he does act like the juvenile delinquent ;)..the rest of the roll was in large confetti all over the porch bed .
  11. your dog will LOOOVE licking that stuff off her leg ....and it could be more trouble than it's worth to stop her doing it .... Why not phone a vet and ask if hair can grow back after such a time period ? Then you will know whether to try or not ;)
  12. suggest radial nerve injury - it may not be that at all ... but something else to considerer ...
  13. Did they discuss damage to the radial nerve ?
  14. and hair grew back after two years? I would have thought that skin from scarring wouldn't have follicles ...they are killed during the process of laying down tissue ..It's great if it can happen though!
