I grew up with 'spurwinged plovers' and still use it in day-to-day. "quoth" fantastic name!! "nevermore" ;)

thanks ... All our cats are buried in/near a rabbit warren not far from the house . Most of the cats have either caught or been fed bunnies from this warren ..so they go there to stay ... No pretty caskets/urns here. ..just a favourite blanket and lots of tears . Here is where my boy's body now lies .. prickle bushes will ensure his peace is not disturbed ...and the baby bunnies play around in the morning sun . Not too bad, really .....

Thankyou folks ...things will be very different now . I carried his body to where it was to be buried ..did that , and turned around to see our only other cat, Dougal, sitting watching . The dogs didn't come with me ..but he did - though it could be that he wanted to make sure his arch enemy was finally gone .... I also opened the door from the 'cat room' to my room after doing some clearing away ..and from a spot on the bed , Dougie purred me to sleep ... he hasn't been on my bed since Mr W arrived ..as Mr.W had to be kept totally separate from other cats at all times due to aggression. It's a new day - one with a big hole in it.

..tonight I put down my gorgeous fluffy boy ... he obviously had a painful urethral blockage ...and I was torn between driving almost 2 hrs in the dark , an emotional mess, for surgery which I have seen fail dismally and a quick end to his pain . I chose the latter ..yes, I am aware that some of you will not condone this choice , I'm sorry .. He is now with our other cats , not far from the house , wrapped in his pooh bear quilt ...and I am bereft. You all know how I felt about him ... he was the one who always stuck by me .. was always in contact somehow , and was the love of my life for the past 6/7 years . Thank you all for also liking his stories and photos over the years - I'm sure he knew :) Goodnight my boy .....now who's going to growl and alert me to things that go 'bump' in the night? ... photos

yes, don't forget to use a proper harness which is made for pulling a load :)

They annoy me ... as when they find a delicious bit of dead something ... furred, scaled ..or feathered - one in particular (I call him Edgar Allan Crow) washes/soaks it in my frog pond! Yukky stuff floats around in there afterwards :/ I tried to get a photo of Edgar Allan with a chook egg the other day - rolled an egg onto the lawn... bent down, grabbed camera ..stood up ............. gone! Un co-operative beast, he is :p

The crows here are DEADLY......to oranges/walnuts/mandarines ...but I have never seen one attack healthy poultry/pups/kittens /rabbits ..tho , of course they will feed on ill/incapacitated livestock.

Neighbor Complaining About Barking..
persephone replied to charli73's topic in General Dog Discussion
Debarking would certainly be high on my list ..... it would be much less stressful for me in the long run ...and probably for the dog as well . -
...she may have partially choked and damaged her windpipe/voicebox ? A small dog , with a large volume of water ... Guess a vet check is one way to have a look at the affected area ....

ermmmyou are wrong! this is a perfectly timed photo!!!! :thumbsup : :) :) I love it.

Pay bills, more like .... *sigh* . yes, dogs that can work independently are just treasures !! This girl has a bit of the killer instinct which shows sometimes ...(like sneakily eating most of my guineafowl as a youngster) but she is fantastic at the all-day ,long distance stuff ..just plods along and concentration doesn't waver. Yes, silence is golden . They'll be off again next week for a shearing gig on a large property ...

:) Most of the dogs have been 'out bush' camping rough with the boss for the week ... working VERY hard mustering/trapping feral goats ...they came home last night ..and haven't moved (apart from mealtimes) .... Lovely!!...... and there are several hundred feral goats on their way to the meatworks . One of our girls was also missing a whole day in very thick scrub .....poor thing, we presume she had found a small number of goats and had shepherded them along all day ....no doubt wondering just where she was supposed to be taking them .. ( in known paddocks, she is left with large mobs of sheep for a couple of hours at a time , and keeps them 'on track' towards yards , etc )... only travelling a long way back to the camp after dark ..minus goats .... Impressive, as they hadn't been there previously . We have had that happen before with a dog ..we'd given him up .... and after he returned home 24 hrs later ... we backtracked , and found where he had a small mob of sheep ..and had kept with them ...... Thankfully this happens rarely ..this is only the third time in many many years .

OK... maybe try this ? Once in an emergency I made this for a friends silky ...and it lasted a week! Not sure about ear protection .. I got a foam square from the kids' toys/school shapes box...... and cut an X in the middle ...just big enough to slip tightly over head. That was it ..and she could race around/see properly /it was bendable so sleeping was ok ....

..or does anyone with a V have time to speak with this girl of all that will be needed?

Need Advice With 7 Month Old Adopted Husky - Help!
persephone replied to husky700's topic in Puppy Chat
unless you have written proof that this dog is up-to-date with vaccinations , it is very unwise to expose other dogs to her . There needs to be a 'quarantine' period, to make sure she is healthy ... Personally I think it is unwise to bring in dogs anyhow ..too early yet . .. -
Seems your pup needs some tough love , education, rules, boundaries .... ;) why can't she be let outside, rather than he be brought inside? if she has room to move, and things to do it may be much better :)

Need Advice With 7 Month Old Adopted Husky - Help!
persephone replied to husky700's topic in Puppy Chat
Aahh Joseph .. you were being kind , but kindness may not be enough here. You have had sound postings here from very experienced professionals already .. This little 'wild dog' may never be a confident and happy girl ... She is very unhappy at present ..and this could go on for quite a while yet . It is, of course your decision, if this is how you want to spend your free time , trying to work on this pup .. Tell me ... is this pup vaccinated at all ? if she isn't there is a big risk she will contract some nasty disease ... What a sad situation for you. My only real advice is to contact a trusted professional ( and here on DOGZONLINE we have several professional members in Vic who could assist you ).. let them see the girl and the situation themselves , and allow yourself to trust their recommendations, -
cos, council have been contacted by a neighbour ...
-
:) That's why a professional opinion is worth every cent ! When we can't think of ideas .. they usually can work with us to help.
-
It may well work .... however, your dog is stressed, anxious, protective ...muzzling him may only make this distress/frustration worse ......he wants to yell & scream, but he can't ..he wants to puff & huff - he can't ....
-
If the husher is one of those muzzle things .. then there is no way that can be left on a dog for more than a short time, IMO. It restricts opening the mouth . Bark collars - yes, they may work ...however ... treating a dog like this is a bit like locking a crying baby in a cupboard .. or poking it every time it cries It is usually best to find out why baby cries, and help work through it ... My advice is to ask on here for recommendations for a GOOD and TRUSTWORTHY behaviour professional ... who you can talk to - who will observe your dog,and advise on treatment /management ....
