Aloysha .. If he went as they said .. instant collapse , then I am glad - it seems preferable to being old and/or ill and uncomfortable .

flickr link to someone's photos of RIGO Rigo was born in 1970 .... when I lived in melbourne , and used to visit the Zoo each Sunday morning , for many years - Rigo & I always had a few minutes 'communication', as back then at 9 am ... zoos were pretty much deserted , and animals would behave differently ..there really was opportunity to see/smell/communicate with many of them :) Rigo would watch for me - he'd sit, and I'd stand sort of side on , and glance at each other ...sometimes he would look me in the eye and connect.... it was lovely, being the only person in those early mornings ...to be able to hear the faint sounds missing when a crowd hovers, to indulge in the oniony/sweaty scent of morning gorilla ...and to sort of share the eating of breakfast across the safety barrier :0 I remember the joy when Rigo was used to father Mzuri .... and the fun of watching Mzuri grow ... Rigo was so handsome , and reminded me of a tragic poet when he was sentenced to "solitary" for anti-social behaviour .It was heartbreaking to see him at this time ..he just withdrew and was depressed .... I hope now he is with his ancestors , struttin' his stuff , looking so muscled and glorious ... roam free now, Rigo..no more stone caves or barriers - no more brash young men taunting you into defending yourself ...

leather is not too bad .. plastic and stones etc are worse :) You now need to do another check around - and when he is left alone .. he is preferably in an area in which there are only HIS things to chew ;) Wait until you have to follow him around tugging on 'poo-on-a-string' ;)

:) looks nice & soft ....

Much & all as the dog apparently needs care - I don't really condone 'abducting' and grooming someone else's dog , FWIW .

Dry Dog Food Recommendation Needed
persephone replied to White Shepherd mom's topic in General Dog Discussion
I note all ingredients in the recipes are cooked. I wonder if the cooking part is essential for some reason. ???? Really? What do you call bone meal? erm...crushed up bone  and hooves & horns ..... :) -
Dry Dog Food Recommendation Needed

I looked at that , and thought that there are lots of folks who dislike feeding/keeping raw food .. esp in countries where there are salmonella risks? -

:) Sounds likehe might be one of those who , in future , when asked about his 'sore paw' will lift it up, and give you 'that ' look ;) I've had that happen :) -

hi. your new puppy probably will not be safe to leave with the bigger one for a couple of months yet . Ideally she should still be with her mother and littermates . two young/teenage pups together is often a recipe for much mischief/noise/ trouble .....and grey hairs!!! :D If they are both amstaffs ..they will be very strong, and will each need time alone with you , and lots of training so that they can be obedient and easy to handle.

yep .. a friend has several dogs and there is food left out continually ..dogs are all a good weight , there are never fights .. and she can go away for a day/night and not panic :)

I have yet to read any scientific evidence that supports this assertion. In fact i've read plenty of evidence that suggests stomach contents are discarded. The proposed diet for your pup is likely to have significant calcium and phosphorus imbalance issues. Either feed meat on the bone (eg. chicken wings) OR a balanced commerical diet OR both. The stomach contents of the rumen /paunch/stomach is mostly all that is left after an animal has been consumed around here, anyway . By the time dogs/foxes/cats/raptors have eaten everything , there is either a neat dry mound of vegetable/fibrous matter left , or a little circular area of well-scratched around vegetable/fibrous matter .

apologies turka ... whilst I respect the efforts you have made to learn about all this , I will say that your premise is not applicable to all dogs./situations. I have had dogs for a half century , and have had long lived healthy dogs on both dry diets and raw diets I do agree that much grain is not what dogs evolved to eat - however dogs' stomachs can and do adjust to digest most things. Our current pack gets fed whatever's available - a lot of raw fresh , often whole animals ... then they may get dry for weeks /months ... then maybe raw again ..or a mix of both ... They are working dogs, in a harsh climate , and have both excellent fitness and longevity , despite what the chemistry analysis says. It is a rare occasion we get any stomach upsets ..I think last time was when my dog had hepatitis , about 15 years ago! Oh.. and some years after that with a dog ingesting a foreign body . ( thank heavens they cannot read! ) :)
