Whats the go on non refundable deposit for puppies
persephone replied to Malshi's topic in General Dog Discussion
Sorry you lost your dog ..it's always hard. the cross you are looking to buy is one frequently advertised , As for the non refundable deposit , I wouldn't . With living creatures, there are way too many variables .. IMO they ask for deposits as they really want their pups GONE ... and a non refundable amount pretty much guarantees this . Ethical breeders will make an effort to match pups with prospective buyers ..and usually not be in a panic to offload pups as soon as they reach the magic age ( though they are most often booked well in advance ) . perhaps take a half step back;breathe ...... -
and this young Red & I sat & observed each other for 15 minutes or so .....

Toilet training on command HELP!
persephone replied to Crazylabmum's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
..too accustomed to the backyard ..THAT is the stimulus for his body to toilet ... ;) you need to teach his body to respond when it hears your cue word . Are you using a word very different to normal words you use ? Remember ..toileting time is all business ..until it's finished ..so .. all he hears is the cue word, conversationally ...it needs to be a word ok to use in public, AND one which is said in a pleasant tone ..also to be pleasant in the public eye ;) ..then gentle praise when he is toileting ...interspersed with cue word ..'Goood boy ..."toilet"' or whatever .... then a treat/play /cuddle ..afterwards My conversation with dogs here ..if we had neighbours ..they'd hear something like this : C'mon fred ..out for 'quick-quicks'.. (dog trots , on leash to a spot I indicate ) "Quick-quick...repeat, repeat , mumble mumble ... quick quicks ..... (watching dog carefully) then quietly ..good boy fred, quick quicks... you're doing quick quicks ..what a clever dog .... blah blah ... *sigh* We start with youngsters ..when we catch them toileting , we say our cue word ..if it coincides, there's a praise party ..then , before they travel in a car , come in the house , go to work (sheep/goat mustering) etc .. we say it again ..and they usually oblige . it will take a lot of practice for you ..but boy , is it worth it!!! -
Toilet training on command HELP!
persephone replied to Crazylabmum's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Hi ..so ..he will go at home . I suggest you extend 'home'..as it seems he has learned to toilet in a place/to other cues ..NOT in response to the word used ;) try using the cue word in all sorts of different places around the house/yard ..ON LEASH ..so he toilets in a spot you select eventually ..upon hearing the cue word . maybe start with his favourite spot ..first thing in AM . put leash on ..long leash if needed .. and use ONLY the cue words repeat, repeat ..NO name... or any other conversation until after he has done what is needed...then treats/praise whatever is good When this seems to work.. move to other spots nearby for a few days ..then start changing spots ..front yard ..back yard ..out on footpath .... and so on ... -
That's a great update So glad she's feeling a lot more comfortable

Good plan for indoors, yes! ..nice large pen with lots of interesting stuff in it ! here is one video for ideas
-
..and while she is a teeny baby , she will ...like all babies . Sleep for a few hrs ..explore/eliminate/eat .....sleep ... and repeat Not sure what it's like in London ..but here , until fully vaccinated, pups should not go walking out & about for fear of contracting disease .... Now, of course, you can take her wherever you want in a carrier , or sling, or pushchair , so she can get some experience of the outside world

Hi, and welcome It is hard on pups/dogs when folks work long hours - they need to be 'in solitary' for the greater part of every 24 hr period ..and it can mean that puppies miss out on experiencing much of life ... the wind, shadows , different scents during the hours of daylight ..little sounds in the grass ... the chance to run/dig ..hunt crickets in the hedges ..all that sort of thing ;) developing senses and muscles do best with much sensory input, obviously .... Hopefully you will eventually get a roofed and fox proof outdoor area for her ... I have no doubt your Urban foxes are bold, and hungry!! Please have a read of this thread ..all sorts of conversations on new pups & peoples' routines ... CLICK HERE

What an awful shock for you ... I can in no way help, except to advise you write everything down ..add any videos/photos/vet reports you have , notes on the surgery which was done /drugs given /how she was nursed at home by you ..and names of the vets and other staff .and contact the practice manager in a way which is asking - not accusing ... ...you still have your beautiful Sally <3 Whatever the diagnosis .. she is with you and you love her very much

Interesting choices Exciting time ! What has changed pet-wise since you had the whippet puppy ? Do you still have indoor cats /birds? have you spent any more time around dogs , or read up on training & things ? Did you want a pup, or an adult ?
-
where's that LOVE button ? :D
-
And .... Pudden modelling his new accessory ... ;) - at least it's a fashionable purple ! <3 necessary because he is an inveterate food /rubbish scrounger when on walks This model IS a 'treat-capable' model , once the wearer masters the correct head tilt ;) . He's almost there! food is a great motivator !!

Is the pup the only male/female ? does it have a very good example of coat marking for the breed ? Is it a lot larger or smaller ? AS you have not interacted with the pup ...is there no other littermate with markings/colour/coat type that would suit?
-
Ouch that would feel terrible. is the breeder registered with the state's Dog Authority ? eg : Dogs NSW have you actually 'met' the pup in question , or did you choose from photographs ?

Another week Spotted this yesterday at a dinky-di country Show .. she was right at the end of a row of stalls ..and neighbours were all out & competing .
