  1. It could be flea or mosquito bites that she scratched and licked.
  2. K9: I havent done it, in their case they may be right? if the dog never applies tension on the leash, it wont be aversive, but for the reasons you stated, I would chose something else. I used prong collars when riding a bike. My dog never pulled when I used prong collars, so there was no negative effects on her at all (IMO of course). How would harness prevent the dog from pulling you down? That was the only way I wood ride a bike with her, cause I didn't want to be pulled under a car or something. And the leash was not attached to the bike, but was in my hand. That is the thing, she never, ever pulled when having a prong collar on her. And, if you just put it the other way around you could use it as any other martingale collar. Personally, I don't understand all the drama, they are used in Europe for ages with great success.
  3. Once I grow fur around my neck I might just do that.
  4. I did try it on my leg. Not exactly the same, but still some indicator about the feeling. It wasn't painful.
  5. Oh, and I don't think they inflict any pain at all. Standard choke chains, and especially halties, can be much worse (IMO again).
  6. I used the prong collar before. IMO it is much more effective than any other training collar. I also used it for bike rides with a dog. That was the only way I was sure she was not going to accidentally pull me down on the street.
  7. We have a standard poodle, but would like to own: Another standard podle, Miniature poodle, Borzoi, Scotish terrier, Bedlington terrier, Bulldog. That's it.
  8. You don't have to apologise. I understand why you may not like it. I just thought that puppy is super cute and didn't even think about the distress it was experiencing.
  9. I don't know if this was posted before. Apologies if it was but it's too cute to resist. Frenchie pup
  10. I am not a spirit believer myself. However, I remember once, long time ago, going past the cemetery with our dog in the car. She went completely berserk, and only calmed down once we passed the cemetery. It was quite spooky to be honest. So, I would not pass any judgment. Anything that helps is good IMO.
  11. This one maybe. Laura BIrd
  12. I don't defrost them at all. Bruno gets his food frozen.
  13. I don't know - and neither do you - that's my point. And please - what breed do you mean when you say "staffie" ---- there is NO BREED CALLED STAFFIE. Staffie = Staffordshire Bull Terrier. And I am pretty sure you know this. So, what is the point of this question? Staffie Staffie 2
  14. Ok, I have to clear few things here. True daddy longlegs are not spiders at all and don't have any fangs and venomous glands, so they can't bite even of they would like to. However, there is a spider family, that look like daddy longlegs. They indeed have very short fangs, but they could probably penetrate the skin. This was proved by Mythbusters. There is no evidence whatsoever that the venom from these spiders is dangerous to humans. I find it amazing that people actually know which spider bit them. I was bitten many times, and I believe it was by spiders judging by skin reaction, but I wouldn't have a clue which species was it.
  15. If you don't mind me asking, how do you know that your dog was bitten by a white tailed spider? Did you actually see it, or did you just assumed by the reaction. And your son was lucky, redbacks can be fatal, especially for kids.
  16. Is it Chillmastif or Bullhuahua?
  17. I wonder how can they possibly be sure it is white tail spider's bite that caused necrosis on the dog's leg? Here is another link: White tailed spider and necrosis And if we do kill all spiders as someone suggested we would literally be swimming in isects and other criters. Not fun.
  18. Yeah, usually it's not a big deal. It happened once or twice. The worst thing for me was knowing that I did something that caused my dog pain. :D
  19. I am no pug expert, but I think he looks excellent. Athletic pug, who would think.
  20. Or you can try cut into pieces and frozen. My dog eats liver and kidneys only when frozen. I guess he is not happy with the smell. Usually it is tinned mackerel and sardines for him, few times he ate whole small fish, but it was very fresh and no smell at all.
  21. Hey, I wasn't flaming anybody. At least that was not my intention. And deffinitely, I wasn't looking for attention. My opinion was, and still is, that OP can get herself in a trouble. Especially if the owners of that dog realise what she is up to. She reported what she believed was mistreatment, and that is excellent, but IMO she is going a bit too far. If you don't see it that way, that is ok, but you should respect my opinion even if you disagree. Well, you don't have to, but it would be nice.
  22. Wow, I hope not. That would be truly terrible. These dogs are doing amazing service and should be treated accordingly. I would like to know more about it, any idea where to find info about this.
  23. Well your dog would just have to sit on the balcony and suffer then, wouldn't it. That is irrelevant. And you don't know if the dog was suffering, you just assume that. It is OK to report it if you think there's something wrong, but that's it. Driving by and spying on the people is way to far. IMO of course, I realise you don't agree with me.
  24. If somebody is driving by my house 20 times a day slowing down and looking into my living room, I would be calling police. They can prove later, if they can, that they are just looking at the dog.
