  1. You do realise that it is stalking what you do and if they see you sitting at the street looking into their living room they can report you to the police.
  2. Am I happy to own a poodle? You bet, no hair around the place at all.
  3. We had our side gate left opened by gardeners on two ocassions. Bruno actually went out once, luckily he was just sitting in front of it when we came home. I put a padlock there and no problems since.
  4. I know that kennel. When I was living there they had one absolutely fantastic dog. I believe it was one of their first big winning dogs. His name was Elan Arno Cobra. He was 28 BOB and 10 BIS and working titles too.
  5. Well, sensible or not, in Italy your dog must never be offlead in urban areas. And you have to have a muzzle with you at all times as well. Also, my understanding is that vets have the power to decide which dogs are potentially dangerous and these will have to be muzzled in public at all times. Some dog sports, like schuhtzhund are now illegal in Italy as well (not sure about this, will need to check). Good luck with the move, but the things are rarely the way they look at the first.
  6. Hello and welcome. We have a standard poodle. It was an easy choice for us. We wanted no shedding, no drooling and no smelly dog. Decent size (not too small) and smart too. The list was rather short and some dogs on it were too expensive or hard to find. It was an obvious choice and we have absolutely no regrets. In fact, we are looking to get another poodle soon.
  7. We are in Darwin and our dog gets frozen meat and bones. He usually eats them before they get thawed. No negative effects for 3 or so years. Also no flies around the meat. And he is not very keen on liver and kidneys, but he is eats them when frozen. I think that chewing them gets them partially thawed so when they get into stomach they are not solid frozen. When it's really hot hw usually licks them for awhile, like icypole.
  8. The article is just a summary of 55 actual articles. Of course it can be written more clearly to emphasise some points, but what is important is the general idea.
  9. I don't see any benefits in having to desex my dog. And those figures are plenty significant to me as an owner. The rest I agree totally.
  10. Maybe, but it is up to the owners to decide what is overwhelming and what is not. IMO of course.
  11. Over the years I met some pretty bad examples of the breed. I know that it was not the dogs' fault but the 'colourful' characters that owned them, but still I kinda lost interest in them, which is pitty because I agree they can be great dogs in right hands.
  12. Unfortunately I have met more than a few, in person or on various fora. The APBT is in a league of their own when BSL comes to place. At least at the moment. I don't think that many people on this forum are intent to demonize the breed. Quite opposite, actually. I am not a huge fan of the breed, actually I am not a fan at all, but I am against BSL regardless. Regardless how true this is, claims that there are other breeds with same traits are more likely to get those other breeds into the trouble with BSL than they can help APBT. And as for taring all APBT owners with the same brush (I suppose you mean by the general public, because again I don't think that is the view here), many owners did help the whole hysteria in a negative way. You may not like it, you may disagree, but it happened and is still happening.
  13. Yeah, no paralysis ticks here. Yey! But cane toads are, so be careful.
  14. AFAIK there are no paralysis tick in NT, only at the east coast. I will have to check though to be 100% sure.
  15. Funny nobody mentioned crocodiles yet. People in other states are usualy obsessed with crocs here.
  16. Do u live in Nightcliff by any chance if you do I may have seen you walking your poodle We did live in Nightcliff, but we moved to Brinkin 2 years ago. There is another brown standard in Alawa tha we know of.
  17. Oh, and our dog (standard poodle) is doing super fine here. I keep his coat short, he swims a lot and he is fit and lean. No skin or other problems. There are no paralysis ticks here, but you do need to watch for cane toads.
  18. This is our 4th year in Darwin. We like it, it's nice, but as everybody said it is a bit more expensive to live here. You do spend less on clothes though. A lot of people commented on heat. Well, we came here from Perth and Perth was much hotter in summer. But high humidity make it feels hotter than it really is. You do get used to it after 2 or so years. And as for everything is far away, well again Perth is much further away. Singapore is like 2 hours flight away, and it's cheap to get there too. The weather is about to become really nice until about October, when the Buildup (that is the worst one) starts. Rains usually start in Dec/Jan and it is better than. If you think you know what the rain is, well the rain here will change your definiton of it for sure. Sometimes we get more rain for a weekend than Perth gets for year (sorry about all these comparisons to Perth, but that is the only place I know well enough). One thing is for sure. It is fun place to be, at least for awhile.
  19. Funny. Most of the people that posted here were against mandatory desexing, and yet poll shows that majority support it. Personally I voted no. My pet is not desexed. And I don't plan to do it. Simply because I firmly believe that desexing can have negative effects on the dogs' health. I also believe that in near or so future this will be proved beyond any doubt, and I wonder what will all supporters of mandatory desexing say then. Actually, I will just wait and see.
  20. Plus, you are less likely to cut your dog accidentaly with full blade. Skip blade can sometimes graze the skin, if you are not very careful.
  21. Yes, the only thing is it's not really funny. It's sad actually.
