  1. Check this. And this. It is possible, but expensive. I don't know if these chemicals are available in Australia? Worth checking though.
  2. Bruno loves to take stuff. It's not really stealing because he wants us to know that he took it and he wants us to chase him to get it back. He usually takes pencils or erasers from boys when they are doing their homework, and he takes my socks or t-shirts. The best thing of all, my wife doesn't want to play like this and she gets really annoyed with him. He never takes anything hers. Swimming goggles, however, he steals whenever he can and destroy them completely. No play here, he just hates them with passion.
  3. Here is our standard poodle. He is not foofy. A poodle can even look like a terrier.
  4. We had an Airedale girl that tried to hump pretty much every dog she ever met. Male dogs used to get very confused, because if it was another male dog they would have obviously reacted and stopped it, but since the culprit was a female quite often they didn't know what to do. It was very hard to get rid of this, she was quite stuborn.
  5. You are right, they are so much cheaper in US, less than half of the price in Australia. Too bad we can't use them here. It's not the plug, plug can be easily replaced. It's the 110V current. However, the second cheapest Andis I have seen are on UK ebay. With shipping cost they would be about 200 AUD. When I was getting my clippers I was thinking long and hard about this and ended up bying Wahl KM2 from Australian seller. Very happy.
  6. And I will chain myself to a suitable edifice in support. The French may have popularised the smaller poodles and are largely credited for developing the white poodles but they are German in origin. Even the name is a derivative of the German "pudel". That was my understanding as well. Now when I think of it, the country in the FCI listing is not the country of origin, but the country that maintain the standard. Tibetan breeds are listed under UK.
  7. Yes, either German or Russian NOT French Interesting how many people think the older style dogs look better! Poodles are still listed as French breed in the FCI catalogue. FCI 9th group
  8. Unfortunatelly not. Effects of neutering You did what you believed was best for your dog. That's what matters.
  9. Obviously desexed dogs can't get testicular cancer. However, desexed dogs has 4 times more chance to develop prostate cancer. Just to set the facts right. Cheers
  10. No way, it is much more interesting watching green ants stalking the garbage bins and waiting for maggots to crawl out. I found it very interesting because it is obviously learned behaviour from green ants, but I am entomologist.
  11. Ok, here is a question for groomers, both professional and amateur. Do you prefer ceramic blades or steel ones. I have and use both and didn't really notice any big difference. So, what is your preference, and why. I guess I am a tad bored right now.
  12. I have no idea if this is correct, but I found this peace of information: 'The ears are filbert-shaped and have a cartilage at the back which, when pressed upon, push the ear upward until the tip covers the eye (protecting it from dirt and debris when backing out of a hole or burrow)'. So, it seems that ear poms protect the eyes.
  13. the accident and illness plan from BWM is much cheaper - $135 per dog per year These are different policies. First one is at $100 excess and the other one is $500 excess. They both are covered for up to $8000 per year. Here is the link, BWM
  14. This is not right. When I do X-rays for myself I always get them to keep. That way it is easier when you go to different specialists to bring them on. I wonder if you want to change vet for your dog, would those x-rays be accessible by your new vet? If no, and you would have to pay again for new x-rays, that it's nothing but rip-off.
  15. Yes, it is called prey model diet. What you described would pretty mush fit this model. Many people use it, some actually swear by it. IMHO, that is the best way to go.
  16. This is spot on Spotted Devil. I completely agree with this.
  17. This is only a revision of the literature. It is not a scientific article. However, it gives a list of 55 published articles that you may read if you do feel so. I actually did read some of those, and there is nothing sloppy about them. I find the most interesting that a lot of this work came from human medical scientist. Why veterinary medicine have been so reluctant to take part in this is beyond me.
  18. It is hereditary, that's why dogs with it are not recommended for breeding. 14 weeks is too early to tell. I think if it is not down by 6-8 months there is a chance it will never happen. Maybe even later, I am not sure. If the testicle remains in the tube, it is more complicated surgery and it costs more. And here you actually don't have a choice to desex or not, because such testicle have a big chance of developing tumors. If it is you dog, it is too early to worry. I read somewhere that there is chance to manually manipulate the testicle down into the scrotum. Like pushing it down or something.
  19. I would get Wahl, but it seems that they have less that desired lifetime. Shouldn't they last longer? These Lazor RX, anybody have any experience with them? They are about the half the price of the Wahl, and 3 times cheaper than Andis. But I know nothing about them. The regular A5 blades seem to fit, which is important, I have 4 blades. Anybody have those?
  20. Well, I am impressed. I just wish you guys were here when I posted something that showed desexing as less than perfect solution to all problems. My mistake was I posted it on the Main forum and not here on Health.
  21. I know about this. I found some other stuff as well and posted on DOL because I wanted everybody to be aware of negative effects as well as positive. Well, the debate was pretty rough at the moments, desexing is viewed as a politically correct thing these days.
