  1. That 'fact' is in fact incorrect in at least two of the three. But, as somebody said here, completely irrelevant.
  2. People did, do and will compare dogs to wolves simply because they are the same species. That's is definitely something in common IMO.
  3. So, who gets the kids if they split up?
  4. Doesn't have to be heated. Poodlefan's description as 'breed in development' is perfect.
  5. To me it looks like Tervueren (spelling?) and German Shepherd cross.
  6. Thanks for those. If I may say, they look so much better without the long tail.
  7. Nice photos. I am curious though about the tails. How do they look with undocked tails? I hate the way the Airedales look with the full tail.
  8. What's the problem with Boa? Here in Darwin anyone can buy one of the few species of Python in a pet shop. What's the difference? Boas can grow large enough to eat small children. So can Pythons. I don't think they grow that much in captivity though. And they are not that aggressive. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't keep snakes as pets although I don't have a problem with them. I did have Piranhas in aquarium once (not in Australia, it is illegal to do so here, with a reason). ;)
  9. I am sorry, but this is not quite correct. Sun light is essential for Vitamin D production in the body, and Vitamin D is essential for bone growth, calcium absorption and some other things. If there is not enough exposure to sun light, you would have to give the dog Vitamin D supplement. BTW, this also applies to humans as well.

  11. As foxes are frequently linked to spreading rabies in Europe, definitely not something you would want to import. Not that you could anyway.
  12. It may look like that now, but you may change your opinion once dogs are not allowed anywhere outside their yards.
  13. And then people complain about more and more fines and restrictions on dog ownership. Personally I would introduce fines so high that would pay all expenses (DNA if necessary) and then some. I would really like to see a person that is facing $1000 or more fine walking away form their dog poop.
  14. You can talk to your neighbours and tell them that, although kids have every right to play in their own backyard, they can and do look into your yard which is inappropriate and you personally have a problem with it. You don't have to mention the dogs at all.
  15. This is not poisoning. Soap (or some other liquid people mentioned here) merely blocks their airways and they start to suffocate. That's when they get loose and can be safely removed.
  16. That sounds like spider mites, but they are rather small. They are pests of plants.
  17. Ticks are not insects. If you can just count the legs, ticks would have 4 pairs and insects would have 3. Ticks ocassionaly climb onto the vegetation so they can catch suitable hosts easier. Usually it's grass or bushes.
  18. There were many claims about microchips causing cancer in the last 10 or so years. They were mostly linked to microchips having a low level of radioactivity. There were also many studies about this, but none of them actually provided any proof for these claims. Pretty much like mobile phones and brain tumours. The actual level of radioactivity is so low, that dogs (or cats) get exposed to much higher dose just living in our modern, appliances equiped homes. So me thinks, just another try to get a load of money from big pharmaceutical companies. Not surpisingly coming from good old USA.
  19. Funny, I just said something completely opposite. Vinegar works fine for me though.
  20. I use white vinegar with some success. I just sprinkle it at whatever Bruno is marking and it kills the smell. I noticed that sometimes he gets back at it once the smell is gone, and I just repeat it again. At least it's cheap.
  21. I know what she posted, I actually read it all. And I do agree with the majority here having always owned (or being owned by) purebred dogs. :D I just had enough of it and would very much like to go back to rare colours in purebred dogs. If possible.
  22. Guys, as much as I personally disagree with some of the Moselle's posts, can we all just give her a break. This was fun (maybe) at the beginning, but it is getting ridiculous and out of the control. It is enough if you just say you disagree with her once, and leave it at that. If it upsets you that much, as somebody said, hit the ignore button. Just a suggestion, you can shoot the messenger if you like, but I just had to say it. There. :D
  23. I like the coloured ones. :D I like them all. ;)
  24. In Australia self black would be rare, but in other parts of the world it's not. It is not a disqualifying colour, any colour is acceptable and there are no disqualifying colours. Merle isn't known in the breed as far as I know. Nose should be black but even so if it were dark charcoal on a blue it would get by even in the show ring in most places. Missing or very light pigment would be a different matter. Most of the Borzoi that look self black are heavily marked self black and brindles/black and tans with black masks. Dominant black from the K locus is rare everywhere I think. But quite acceptable. Hard to tell the difference just by sight sometimes Self colours can sometimes get a hard time in the show ring here, but mostly I think that is because judges aren't used to seeing them and the whites are so attractive. Here is a self brindle from the wonderful Teine kennel in the US. Teine have great coloured 'zoi. Thank for that info. :D
