  1. lol @ Big Balls Magee Some very cute bums in this thread! I actually thought of this thread when I was at the vet with Spence this morning. You guys were *this* close to getting an eyeful of 'anal gland butt'
  2. Spencer and I are in! I'll just be posting in here though cos I'm not on flickr either.
  3. "I will not hurt them. I just want to chase them and get a little taste of wool now and then."
  4. These kinda threads are awesome I love the synchronised point and Bella's 52 weeks cover shot
  5. Yes people can be complete idiots around dogs. My most recent experience was a few months ago when I was walking Spence in the CBD. We were walking along Swanston St heading to Flinders St. Station and Spence was just plodding along not really paying attention to anything around him. Suddenly this guy side-steps into our path and starts man-handling my dog, patting and rubbing him on the head and face really roughly. I was gobsmacked and said, "Can you stop patting my dog like that" and the guy goes, "what a great dog" and walks off. WTF?? It was actually 'lucky' that the guy approached head on rather than from behind. Spence is very tolerant of people touching his head, but does not like people messing with his backside. If the guy had come up from behind and started patting Spence on the bum, he probably would have been snapped at.
  6. Yeh my first thought was that the pup was probably just really tired. First day in his new home and playing with another puppy for hours, he must be exhausted. When we took my dog camping for the first time he was wide awake and playing all day without taking his usual nanna naps and he was dead tired at the end of the day. Could hardly get him into the tent cos he just went limp and refused to move. And he was an adult dog, not an 8 week old baby.
  7. lol what a cutie. Maybe the stiffness is Elbie pretending that rigor mortis has set in. You might have to explain to him that it doesn't happen quite that quickly Spence has somehow figured out that dead dogs don't breathe, so if he's panting when I shoot him he will actually close his mouth and stop panting when he's 'dead'. Although if I don't bring him to life quick enough he will roll his eye to look at me
  8. I'll join in next year too. I need some motivation to pick up my camera again.
  9. Funny, there's the same rumour about Spencer at mum's work. Apparently everyone she works with thinks Spence is a genius dog or something. She tells me that even when she goes interstate for work, people there will come up to her and say, "I hear you have a really smart dog.". It's bizarre. Better not tell them that Spence often hits his nose on the wall when he turns around in the hallway. He's lived here for nine years and still doesn't know how wide the hallway is...he's no genius :D
  10. Haha! YES! As I was writing that post I was actually thinking, "Chester would SO be the lead singer!"
  11. Love it CM! I can just imagine them putting their heads together and planning that little tableau. THe way they're grouped kinda reminds me of a promo shot for a rock band..you know that typical group shot where the musicians are standing around looking serious? :D
  12. How? It still comes down to the person holding the clicker or using the verbal marker. I have good timing and I can say my verbal marker as soon as the behaviour I want happens. But I've seen people with shit timing using a clicker and a few seconds will lapse between the behaviour and the click.
  13. Not if the person operating the clicker has shit timing I usually only use a clicker or voice marker when teaching something new. Doesn't seem to make any difference to my dog which one I use.
  14. Outside, even if I'm home. No aircon in our house and no room for dogs in front of the portable fan! There's a big patch in the yard that is in permanent shade, so Spence digs himself a comfortable hole under the big Camelia bushes and snoozes.
  15. *looks shifty* er.... been a bit slack on that front..... Thanks for the reminder tho. Must get on to it! lol busted! Maybe you should celebrate Dylan's 'gotcha day' (the day you got him) if you don't know his birthday?
  16. I don't have an issue with it. If I'm out in public with my dog, strangers are already seeing the live 3D HD version of Me and My Dog. Why would I care whether they take a photo or not?
  17. Exactly. I walk on both public footpaths next to roads and a shared walking/bike path. I always make sure to walk all the way over on the left hand side of the path. That way if a jogger/runner/cyclist/martian needs to overtake from behind, they will pass on the right and I will be between them and my dog. Tis an easy way to keep both dog and other path users out of harms way.

  19. eep! I better not let Spencer see this thread, he might go on strike. Sometimes I only reward him with pieces of carrot Your piglets are be-YOO-ti-ful!
  20. Yeh he is 9 yrs old so that might be it. Just took these pics. ETA: sorry for hijacking your thread BC Crazy!
  21. Yep! I have a cat who I'm sure would excell at Schutzhund lol. He's VERY prey and food driven. And he already likes leaping up and grabbing my arm He can sit on command too. Seeing as Schutzhund is banned in Vic, we'll start a new sport - Schutzkatze!
