Daily Heartworming Tablets
Dogsfevr replied to Owned by Shelties's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
If you have had no issues then dont worry, otherwise ask the vet what brands are suppose to be the problem, what exactly did they cause etc & ask if the issues are any greater than the products they sell .That is what we do these days if we happen to get a vet that says the things this one has said.We say show us the facts I am all ears for realistic product warnings but find most vets just want to scare & push they yearly jab which has had far too many issues & the monthly stuff which needs to be suited to the breed in question. e for many years used the daily tabs until numbers wise the ivermec liquid was better but our breeds can tolerate it. It sounds like your happy with what your using & so be confidient unless the vet can show you good reason to change -

Please Help! Greyhound Puppy Won't Eat Much
Dogsfevr replied to Cheyenne_Fury's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
If it was one of ours with upset tummy & little out of works we would cook up chicken & potatoes(some use pumpkin)we dont use rice as we find our dogs react to it. I would give her that for a few days & slowly add some dry food & slowly change from there -

Agree worns & the vacc can knock around a young pup.I would also stop the milk until the stools are firm. Also agree with the comment stick to the diet recommend or one brand. Greys get stressed quite easily so dont panic to much or over fuss even though its a baby be confidient & the pup will adapt too.Remember 6weeks is an age where it is still relying on its mum for confidience,it now has no one & is very young so it will take longer -
Daily Heartworming Tablets
Dogsfevr replied to Owned by Shelties's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
For starters you vet is telling you alot of B******.They obviously only want you to buy from them which is very poor. Did the vet suggest a brand suitable for the sheltie,i believe they can react to heartworm meds so picking the right brand is very important & something the vet should have stressed more. I suggest you contact the sheltie club & ask there advice. There is nothing wrong with friskies/excelept at all & infact the excelepet flea liquadator works far better than frontline etc from our clients point of view with no reactions at all. We have used both the names above worm tablets for over 25 yrs plus other brands with no problems it just means the vets arent getting business Many vets only want you to use monthly so you buy from them only its a good business racket. -
Very few kennels i now of use tins,it isnt cheaper at all . You will find good kennels feed better foods than what alot of dogs get at home & go home in better condition than what they came.
-
A good kennel will feed whatever you provide,it does come under the "special diet" label. Aslong as its clearly labelled & a detailed sheet is provide then a kennel should have no issues with given the dog the diet requested. What many barf feeders do is have a comprimise diet they use when away . Many dogs have different diets due to health, reactions etc etc so special diets shouldnt be an isue for a kennel that is dog minded

Tear Stains, Again............................
Dogsfevr replied to pesh's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Firstly you would want to find out if theres any medical reason for heavy tears, after that its purely daily hygiene around the eyes.We get clients who want the dog to go home white & stain free & as we say we can do our part but they have to do the daily stuff. We wont apply anything for a quick fix. Just like my white showdog if i dont maintain the urine areas he will stain & go yellow its done to daily maintaince -
How Long Does It Take To Groom Your Dogs?
Dogsfevr replied to Norskgra's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Pre show groom 2.5 hrs each, show baths 1.2-2 hrs. I never brush unless its a full bath as you do pull out coat,i pee feather wash nightly & full bath 2-3 times -
Im not a supercoat fan but thats me. I would scrape the rice, puppy alphabets(total waste of money),puppy porridgedinosaur bone chicken frames, mutton flaps are more useful plus the raw meats etc I use natural yoghurt & give tuna once a week,no eggs as our dogs throw them up

Grooming Scissors.......................
Dogsfevr replied to pesh's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
What exactly are you wanting to do & with what breed?? -
If there coats are matted i hope you charge a good price because matted coats & blades long term mean you lose out.I Personally im not a fan of the 2 speeds & wouldnt own them
-
Double K & as capanash said no wet, dirty coats besides the obvious it would take forever to do a wet coat & the finish would be awful. Ideally you want to clip a clean dog, knot free & regulary. As to blades depends what blades you have

Dogsfevr replied to Ittybitty_'s topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
" would never go mobile" refers to the reason i couldnt work mobile,i like having all my equipment with me,air con/heating for dogs comfort, shower close by for the gross dogs, our grooming room is set up for all dogs all shapes & sizes, the lightening is set up to see all ,the mirror on the wall for finishing touch grooming etc etc. -
Would You Chose A Mobile Franchise
Dogsfevr replied to Ittybitty_'s topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
We groom from home & would never go mobile. We have an enormous breeder based/club based referrel system due to the fact so many groomers can not do the job correctly or able to spend the time to show the people what tools to get & how to use them. We get people who travel an hr or more simply because they want there dog/s to look like they should,we also get alot of country people who come downe every 8 weeks for the dogs haircuts(these are 4hrs away). Grooming has become highly in demand but people are no longer willing to let anyone groom there dogs, there are so may wannabes out there that do some crappy jobs after claiming they now how to groom,in schnauzers the number of groomers that trim the beards is crazy, the beard is the age of the dog & takes forever to grow back. We do alot of work peoples dogs as they can leave them all day & now its air conned & they can run about. The simple fact is grooming is highly a good business if you now what your doing,we can all get one off clients but what you want are the regulars who will refer you -
Amstaff Pup Biting And Help In House Training
Dogsfevr replied to staffylovers's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Firstly get rid off the piddle pads, this only confuses them as your saying he can go inside but he should asking/access outside & all efforts should be put into training outside . As someone is home during the day this will be so easy, just quick visits outside side with a keyword'Wees or "Toilets" Many people make the mistake off when getting home greeting the dog so over the top that dog reacts to this & continues, come home walk in & ignore. A good training schol will teach you alot -
Unsure About Food - Any Help Welcomed
Dogsfevr replied to staffylovers's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
What did the breeder suggest you feed??Have you discussed it with them?? At present the dog is training you,you have tried 3 different products & its turned its noise up so try something else. It will only make him more fussy ,raw is fine & maybe someone can assist you but whatever you feed you need to stick with it & you train the dog, that means no leaving food, down,no changing brands,no treats, nothing except what goes into its food bowl until it learns to eat -
Okay i now where the dog came from. I would do alot of research on the net,the best exercise is swimming as its good for muscle whilst still being gentle on the problem area. What you need is the exact problem in writing from your vet so you can research & understand exactly the ins/outs. Many of the US sites are very informative & speak in dummy language so we can get a better understanding
-
So you where never given a copy of the hip/elbow results with your puppy pack or showen that both parents where tested?? A breeder that tells you they have bred out HD is very misleading. Are they registered?
-
George Huber in Midvale does acupunture & high up with the greyhound world,i now its far away but well worth a visit. There are over vets that can do the surgery themselves not just murdoch, dont rush in . Have you contacted the breeder???
-
We dont recommend it but i have to say this. Vets say we dont have to vacc yearly but they are now pushing yearly heartworm which has more side effects, doesnt make alot of sense
-
Scat murdoch certainly isnt the only option i dare say your vet works in with them but you have other choices there.

What Brand Of Commercial Dry Food To Feed?
Dogsfevr replied to DogsLover's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
How long is a piece of string & thats your answer but having said that all that Bernese said is important, some breeds have food intolerances so you now not to risk some brands,if its a pup you should follow the breeders diet sheet. I feed one of the brands because it suits my dog & its needs, doesnt mean it will suit yours -
We have had 8 greys & not one had allergies or issues. The biggest thing to remember is a grey pup is a clumsy, fast growing pup & not everyone wants one.Would it be allowed in the house? How often would you visit it,Greys thrive on a routine & knowing where they belong, there extremely sensitive & if not treated in a way suitable for Greys can become very nervous & slink alot They will often get the runs on certain meats & will get the runs when alarmed or insecure

Dog Anxiety After Boarding And Training
Dogsfevr replied to panda's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I totally agree with Miranda. Did you visit the facilities & totally go over there training methods & watch them, did they allow you to come & visit the dog & show you its progress??? Did they then teach you how to control the dog after training or just send you home with the dog? So many of these scenarios end up with the dog worse than before which is a real shame
