  1. If flying way cheaper as excess unless of course your ticket for the time you want costs a fortune to. For my 38 kg dogs plus the crate i pay around $275 each way . Never had issues with the dogs being cancelled if something required that & it has happened once new arrangements where sorted & no drama at all .
  2. Actually teaching tricks as part of your training works wonders & keeps a puppies brain working . Mine get taught to do high 5's or any trick they may foster themselves ,yes it means very little but there desire to please you whilst performing these things is often 100 percent more doing sit over & over again . My current boy is a leg weaver & his whole body language changes when he gets to do this & the focus is so much better generally i use it for his reward for doing things right . Like mentioned shaking hands many dogs love so having a good sit is required ,rolling over or playing dead is part of the drop, high 5's can be part of the sit or stand . Mine are showdogs but i still enciurage tricks because they enjoy it
  3. I often think the better question is am i being selfish keeping my cherished pet alive . I believe most people in there heart now there time has come its then making the decision that becomes hard. Whilst they may have good days i still evaluate what a good day has become & often that is still a struggle. Our oldies are very cherished here but i guess after having to make the choice many times now each time it becomes easier because we take great comfort in knowing what we are doing is the right thing & i can take comfort in that decision plus like all people we have hang on to a dog one time to many & that is harder to accept even many years later ,we do have regrets with a few that we let them go longer than we should have & it stays in your mind I had to pick her up to bring her inside For me this line would hold alot of value in my decision & has done so for one of my dogs & the reason why. It was summer,if we went out & this happened we weighed up the worse case scenario & for us it wasn't pretty & not a way i wanted to see my dog .I had seen her struggle to get up on one two many occasions & the fear in her eyes at being completely incapable of getting up was heartbreaking . But as others have said its personal & only you can live with the time you select
  4. yep i would be sending back to & the fact the previous owner suggested valium is rather odd. This dog shouldn't be your problem or anyone elses problem & i don't say that lightly
  5. Yep agree with the above ,you also need to make it more fun. Minis are very bright & will work wonders for food & thrive in obedience .# of ours are titled in obedience with top scores by another person & i was a member of the pal superdogs team many moons ago with our Mini You also can train what you want just walking around the house, getting them to watch & be more responsive to you isn't just part of being onlead. You say she was better at class so why do you think that was the case??What did you do there that you don't on walks??
  6. Never ever required the use of a cone ,most vets charge for them as part of there package .
  7. Our blades are sharpened yearly ,you also should be replacing the tongue on the clippers yearly . We also unscrew the clippers heads on ours & give them a cllean out of hair that builds up Washing the blades is also important . If you have only been using the one blade for all these years you have been lucky . Hard to say what the issue is
  8. The exact reason we tell our puppy owners not to attend puppy pre school Unless it is run by an actual trainer with knowledge ,we recommend a puppy class run privately where the complete opposite is taught . Plus 1.5 hrs is crazy for any puppy most are over it in 30 mins . Often there held in small rooms & its like cabin fever ,to much invading personal space . Its sad these classes have become such a fad with vets as money grabbers but most teach worse manners & the owners are left with training out all the bad things when older . I would just wait & go to a good obedience class
  9. Was the litter tested for hearing ??
  10. Yes, also he started getting diarrhea. The vet said it happens often to older dogs and nothing really can be done. I would tend to disagree with the vet ,not one of our oldies has got the runs due to age BUT all have access outside 24/7 so they don't have to worry about hanging on & getting stressed . The runs would be more a case of the dog knowing its not allowed to soil inside but can no longer hold in that long . There is no guarantee he will use the inside loo or that he will feel relaced in doing so ,teaching a very clean dog to do the exact opposite its trained to do in old age is very hard
  11. Alot of people in the dog show community are affected & have evacuated
  12. Personally i would find a new vet . Does the dog have bad tonsils?? What did the breeder say/suggest. The vomiting part isn't what i would consider normal Not eating bones wouldn't be an issue for me many don't & we don't feed them , Is he active?? Is he feed the same time every day ,does he eat more at a set time .
  13. Judges will be forgiving within reason PROVIDING they can see a reason for doing it differently .if it doesn't work that way yes he will be penalized . Also keep in mind some may ask the the dog to stand on the table . With mouthing he will need to practice having the lead coiled in his hand & showing the mouth to the judges vision , Also don't forget to work on T,reverse triangles as many dogs don't like walking on the wrong side . If the dog isn't ready to do the exercises for him in the ring i would tread carefully
  14. Given your pup is an American Bulldog i would be training for outside unless your going to provide a big tray inside for his piddles as he gets older
  15. For starters stop sitting on him ,that is not alpha nor will it teach him anything . Holding his snout ,laying on him & sitting on him also means nothing to your leadership role & to be honest a very odd thing to do with a dog . Respect is earn't by both parties I would suggest you contact Jen Lawrence who does training on Thursday nights she is a Mally owner/breeder http://www.wolfproud.com/40/obedience-training/
  16. We don't do breeders terms with pet owners . All our bitches still play & would feed our pups till 8 weeks ,we don't wean them off as such but they are feed early on . I don't think you can committ to a time frame each litter & bitch is different ,if i was to say up to then up to 7 weeks & i guess that would depend on whether new owners wish to meet the mother etc etc or what arrangements you wish to make
  17. Agree vet visit just to rule out any nasties . There are varying options from Sudafed to meds,
