  1. This is what I would do. Adaptil diffuser or collar - buy online from a reputable/authorised stockist eg Budget Pet Products, Pacific Pet supplies (NOT eBay - ineffective overseas product) or have pet store match same. If she’s hiding in her crate all the time put diffuser by that. If your mum can put a collar on her could try that but she seems too scared for close contact. Positive reinforcement trainer with behaviour experience - let me know if I can help find one in your area. Do not see a balanced trainer / trainer who uses aversives! Vet with interest in behaviour medicine or ideally a vet behaviourist. Again let me know if I can help. Definitely have a vet check to make sure nothing else is contributing (endocrine issues, pain, etc - run bloods). And in the meantime, keep making her world small and try to avoid her anxiety triggers (I know many will be unavoidable!).
  2. My base mat has been airing for all this time and still has a smell, though it has greatly reduced. Some people on the Canine Enrichment group are using sink mats instead but they don’t look as durable.
  3. Polite Paws sell the Wooly (mat) which looks good - easy to clean. Snuffle Mats Australia look very high quality but postage is a particular killer. It was why I decided to make my own... but then I bought the wrong type of fleece which of course added to the overall cost of my (ginormous, regrettable) project! Oh well the dog now has some luxurious blankies. I don’t know how your rescue fundraiser group don’t lose money making them, LG?! In any case, definitely buy a mat/ball, don’t make them! Signed, Still in the process of cutting strips 18 months later.
  4. Sorry there is a VB your way, just noticed. Dr Melanie Rockman BVSc MANZCVS (Veterinary Behaviour) http://www.u-vet.com.au/services/general-practice-referral
  5. I would do it to prevent further dental problems. You could always ask to see a vet with further training and qualifications in dentistry. In NSW there is Dr Christine Hawke at Animal Referral Hospital Homebush. PS it is common for puppies to have teeth extracted that are coming in incorrectly or which have been retained.
  6. I can’t remember what it does but it’s the active ingredient. It’s not there to make it taste better.
  7. Good pickup! They say it is in such low quantities as not to cause any harm. It still weirds me out though. As I said, I use HealthyMouth. It has the VOHC seal of approval and does not contain xylitol. https://www.healthymouth.com/Articles.asp?ID=246
  8. Oh Pandi, you’re not stupid at all for cleaning your dog’s teeth! That makes you a top dog owner in my eyes and to any vet! As I mentioned in your other thread it is the gold standard of at-home dental care. Imagine how terrible your teeth would be if you never brushed them? Now imagine if you never brushed your teeth and never went to the dentist? With the back teeth, plaque may have hardened into tartar, which cannot be bushed off. Speak to your vet about the best way forward. 9. Hi Pandi, Good on you for being proactive about Pandi’s dental health! My dog has had dental disease so I kind of throw everything at it. I spoke to our vet about water additives and decided to use HealthyMouth. Perhaps speak to your vet and see what they recommend for Pandi. I haven’t seen any water additives that contain sodium tripolyphosphate. The others seem to have xylitol. The absolute best thing you can do for dental health is train your dog to enjoy toothbrushing. It is the gold standard of at-home care. People often put it in the too hard basket but so long as you GO SLOW and are committed it’s really not that hard. Below is my favourite training video. For toothpaste I use Dentipet. It has sodium polyphosphate and fluoride. Has your vet checked Pandi’s teeth recently? It is advisable to have a healthy mouth before starting a tooth brushing regime. They can also give you advice about maintaining Pandi’s dental health. Dentastix contain sodium polyphosphate if you are specifically looking for something else with that ingredient.
  10. Dr Kat Gregory. She does Skype consults and is both a behaviour vet and a trainer. I don’t know anyone in Geelong. http://www.creativeanimalsolutions.com/ She consults from St Kilda Vet Clinic on Tuesdays if you don’t mind traveling for an initial consult or whatever.
  11. With the Adaptil you could try the spray that you can get from vets (only vets). You apply it to a banadana or bedding, wait 10 minutes, then put bandana on dog/allow access to bedding. The spray only lasts a couple of hours but this makes it perfect for situational use vs the collars and diffusers which are better for long term support.
  12. Have you thought about seeing a vet? That’s what I would do...

  14. @Powerlegs Where’s Malcolm!? Did he get a home for Christmas?
  15. Here’s an online vet if no one’s open: https://www.yourvetonline.com/
  16. I give Protexin for this reason but am curious about what she said?
  17. It’s harmful and unnecessary either way, Pandi. There are better ways to train using positive reinforcement and plain old management. The only thing Malcolm counter surfs for is cheese! He once put all four paws onto a large coffee table and took off with an entire wheel of peppercorn cheese. Why peppercorn cheese when there was also regular cheddar, Camembert and all sorts of other cheeses we will never know. I also once caught him on top of the dining table; he thought a cheese platter was there but it had been removed. Heart in mouth moment as he’s a Chi x and would have injured himself had he jumped!
  18. If your pup is doing well on that food have you checked out prices online? I think you’ll find it considerably cheaper.
  19. No Dimmeys near us, Poochmad, but thank you.
