  1. I have a Labrador... don't complain to me about shedding... grr! She sheds all year round, and blows coat a couple of times on top of that... Why is it that Labrador fur that nothing sticks to - tends to stick to everything once it's not on the dog? Don't wear polar fleece near a Lab! T.
  2. I don't believe in mandatory desexing of dogs across the board... but I also don't think that all owners realise the implications of having a litter of pups... I do believe in mandatory desexing of any dog sourced from a pound, shelter, or rescue though - done before the new owner takes it home. T.
  3. I was robbed once... not a nice feeling at all! I hope you and your babies are feeling a little less freaked now... T.
  4. Thanks heaps for the link to the other thread... awesome stuff there! I met the boy again today... and I'm waiting for my friend to send me the photos of me and him having a good play. T.
  5. Hi all! I met a really lovely dog yesterday and he was apparently an English Foxhound... looked like a tall and leggy Beagle to me. I looked up Google when I got home, and he looks exactly like the one in the pic below... Does anyone know much about these dogs - I'd love to know more about them... T.
  6. It's all I can do to beat Zeddy to the poops in my back yard... they appear to be one of her favourite treats... ewww! My girls know the names of every room in the house... T.
  7. We have a very cute poodle/schnauzer boy and a nice little poodle/shihtzu boy at our rescue - both are young adults, but very sweet young fellows.. T.
  8. Last time we had a male echidna, you could definitely tell it was a male when it relaxed a little and uncurled a bit - oh and the females have a small pouch... When I lived on a farm, one of the neighbours found a little puggle and we were told by the wildlife sanctuary people that if we could find another female, she may adopt it and come into milk to feed it... we found 6 males before we gave up looking and decided the hand rear the little one on joey mix... and once the little one was eating more solid stuff, he went to live at the sanctuary... They are really cool little animals... T.
  9. Thank you so much for the update Toohey... it's good to have some good news that Jed is recovering from her setback - AND that she is communicating. Small steps forward Jed... we'll be with you all the way! T.
  10. I'm assuming the vet has also prescribed the spot on stuff that does all worms, fleas, and mites? Worked a treat for my dog when she got ear mites... The only thing that I can think of that will be affecting your dogs AND cats is ear mites... T.
  11. If you like chocolate, you could try recipes using carob as a substitute... T.
  12. There have been studies done that show that growth plates may stay open longer after early desexing, making the long bones (like those in the leg) keep growing for longer. If you are looking to do competitive sports with your dog, then maybe doing the growth plate x-rays may be the best course of action before deciding when to desex - that will ensure that injuries are kept to a minimum... Excellent advice as usual poodlefan! T.
  13. One of the neighbours across the road had their 4 small dogs dig into the other neighbour's yard last night at about 10:30 - the poor little things were barking up a storm because they couldn't get out of the yard they'd gotten into. The owners eventually came to get them out, but had no bloody control over one of the dogs who then decided to run up and down the road setting off other dogs in the street. The owner was just standing there bellowing the dog's name for it to come back and was being ignored by the little bugger - eventually I went out and squatted down and called the dog, who came to me straight away - I then handed him to his owner, who promptly put him back down and we had to waste another 5 minutes trying to catch him again... grrr! Thankfully the owners didn't just chuck them back into their own yard (which obviously is not secure), and we all got a decent night's sleep after the hullaballoo... T.
  14. Isn't the norm for rescue pups to be done around 8 to 10 weeks and over 1kg? Some will go on desexing contracts - but I'm not a fan of those... Being a foster carer of pups of all sizes, our norm is the above - providing the pup is physically ready for the op - need to be healthy and robust, and in the case of our males, descended. Personally, I have seen no major mental issues with dogs that were desexed young, and the op was performed by someone with experience in desexing young pups. If the pup had a reaction to the pre-med drugs or anaesthetic, then there could be some issues down the track I suppose... T.
  15. You could see if Dally Rescue would be able to take on one or more of these dogs... http://www.dalmatiansofnsw.org.au/rescue.htm T.
  16. Your dog - your choice... nuff said... T.
  17. I wouldn't mess with a cat while it's eating either... Oscar is a very smart boy! T.
  18. Lots of good healing vibes and puppy licks being sent Jed's way... hang in there Jed!! T.
  19. Considering that unfair dismissal can award up to the equivalent of 6 months pay... 17.5k is a pittance - or they pay their executive staff stuff all... T.
  20. Well done Tango!!! I think the licks you got were his way of saying thanks for keeping him safe today... T.
  21. I embarrassed myself a few weeks ago by mistaking a Lagotto for an oodle... I was most apologetic and had to give the dog a few extra cuddles and let him lick me once I was corrected for my faux pas... Gorgeous dog by the way! T.
  22. WOOOHOOOO!!!!!! *jumps up and pumps fist in the air* Thank you so much Toohey for the best bit of news about Jed. Umm... can someone please pass the jumbo box of tissues this way please? Does Jane have access to a laptop? I have one here that I don't use, and am quite happy to send it up to her if she wants it. It's not pretty, but it works just fine. Feel free to send me a PM or email with where to send it if she wants it, OK? T.
  23. Another song for Jed... I was at the concert that this one was taped at... and it still brings up the goosebumps... T.
  24. Listening to "The Rose" right now - belting it out in my best (or worst) voice... and my foster puppy James is staring at me and thumping his tail in time with the music... now I can't sing because I'm looking at him looking at me and I'm starting to cry... *sob* T.
  25. Yay for the little dog wonder... may he have many happy healthy years! T.
