What Colour Do Your Dogs Eye's Shine At Night?
Kirislin replied to teekay's topic in General Dog Discussion
No, I know that's not the reason because I've seen a few photos of this particular dog and it's always the same. Google traffic light eyes and you'll see some examples. I still cannot see your photo either. -
that was excellent. I thought the reporter was a good sport for having a go too. If I'd known about this 10 years ago I definitely would have got involved because it had been on my mind to do it with my whippets, I just didn't know it was possible. Now my health and the dogs ages wouldn't allow it.

What Colour Do Your Dogs Eye's Shine At Night?

I would like to hear from someone who knows why they shine different colours, especially dogs who have 2 seemingly normal eyes that shine different colours in the dark. -

and?? -
He looks to be quite heavy in bone to me, but maybe it's just a stage he's going through. I would have thought a kelpie dingo would be finer, that's probably one of the reasons why GSD came to my mind.

hard to say, could be a German Shepherd X too, with maybe some Dingo, what do YOU know about it history?

We will be down 2 committee members on the 22nd so any help offered will be much appreciated. The show must go on!

I've wondered about this because I've seen a few photos of dogs where they have a red and a green eye! I call them traffic light eyes, but I dont know why they're different. I hope you get an answer. -
Pancreatitis 2nd Time 13 Year Old Dog :(
Kirislin replied to Tazar's topic in General Dog Discussion
Now with meds and treatment sometimes we prolong their lives when once we couldn't have. Just because we can keep them alive doesn't always mean it's the right thing to do for them. You need to also consider her quality of life. It's a horrible decision to have to make. -
I moved a horse from Victoria to Qld in April, just as she was growing her Southern Winter coat. From memory it didn't get as woolly as it would've done in Vic but it was still alot woollier than Qld horses. The following year it was much finer but when I brought her back to Vic her coat Winter coat was a bit scanty and it took another year to thicken up again. So, I'm guessing that it is partially pre programmed but will adapt the the seasons in time.

I just love dog sport. I'm getting ready to do agility with my current afghan hound and I'm training our basset for tracking. Yet it PEAVES me that for serious coursing (even though it isn't ANKC) recognised) I have to travel to Brisbane for a serious comp! I soo believe a dog should be functional and beautiful. Me too!

 She's about as co-ordinated as I am. No one ever wanted me on their team at school. I love the traffic directing one too.

great idea. I've always thought whippets' racing achievments should be included on their pedigrees just as their show wins are when they become champions. I put my whippets' awards on their pages in The Whippet Archives. They deserve to have them recognised. Both Penny (Little Savage) and Kibah (Pocket Rocket) are Grand Racing Champions, and it took them a couple of years to reach that level.

It would be rare for any dog to be born without front dew claws, but many breeds dont have back ones, and then some breeds have 2 back ones! so they have 6 toes on each back foot!

What about the people who are already interested. Maybe that's where to start. Contact other clubs and see if they can offer advice and support. Good luck with it.

I'd love to see photos of her!

Any Ideas? Progressive Paralysis In Puppy
Kirislin replied to Kirislin's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Unfortunately the news isn't good. I saw my friends today and the puppy was put down. It had got worse since I described what I knew at the time and it was in pain. The vet felt it was possibly an injury or some kind of problem with its spine that was deteriorating with age. Very sad. Thanks for asking. so sad They're upset about it too, they're really dedicated breeders and raise their puppies on the very best food and give them the best care. They've still got 10 fabulous puppies so hopefully all will be well with them. I got to cuddle 2 that he brought inside for a while today. Diego and Tuppy. :D -
It's a bit like closing the stable door after the horse has bolted though.

that is so cute.

It might be the initial excitment has passed and now you are settling down to reality, that you have a big responsibility for the life of this dog. I think I've been through similar, but for me it's always passed once I get used to the idea. I'm sure I went through a bit of post natal depression when my mare Pagan was born. Luckily for me it wasn't the debilitating episodes some women have, but certainly I was very weepy for about a week. I think I was also depressed when both my whippets had their litters, although both had alot of problems which probably contributed. Just reassure yourself, you've thought it through, you can manage a dog at this time of your life and once you get to know each other you will wonder how you ever lived without him.

Yep, true. Well they say partly true. I could imagine my dogs would eat it, I wouldn't risk it with them. http://www.snopes.com/critters/crusader/cocoamulch.asp

I do wonder what the full story is, but the owner said he left the dog a bone and buckets of water. A bone is hardly adequate food for a dog left for who knows how long.
