  1. I'm sorry, I didn't realise he was gone, I dont visit the Rainbow Bridge much. What a courageous little dog he was, right to the end. RIP little Charlie.
  2. Oh well, I suppose you could always eat him!
  3. They leave such a hole when they're gone dont they.
  4. I've never needed one for any of my dogs whatever the injury or operation. If you are home all day with her you might not need one either, and like you say, if she starts licking at it, you can always get one later.
  5. thankyou everyone. It was a stinking hot day, I was surprised any dogs wanted to run, but very glad we had the cooling stations. One of these days you're going to have to come and watch them for real. Thanks, that's Stitch, he is my Feathers half brother and probably the most beautifully put together whippet I think I've seen. Sadly he only had one descended testicle, a problem so common in whippets today and so he went to a pet home. His breeders still look at him and sigh and think of what might have been. Stitch of course couldn't care less! He's got a great home and life.
  6. I had no idea such a condition existed. I would have thought the body would just expell too much water by weeing it out. How did they treat Sally?
  7. Stans Mum, I've been humming this song all day.
  8. 1. Do you have to feed tons of food or hardly anything in order to keep your dog at a decent weight? If you have to shovel food into the dog or its constantly hungry (yeah I know that's nearly all dogs all the time) I'd say the fat content of the diet needs tweaking up or down. I'm always amazed at how little I feed my dogs. Everytime I put the food into their bowl I think surely they need more than that, but I look at them and they're all in beautiful condition, except Tag who IMO is a bit fat, and I suspect that is because he's been stealing eggs. 2. Is your dog at the vets a fair bit for minor skin irritations, ear or other infections or hot spots? If so, I'd say that avoiding some types of food in the diet is worth trying. A lot of dogs are gluten intolerant and changing the diet can help with these issues. I took Kibah to the vet last week for an eye problem and asked them when she was last in. According to their records, 2001!!!! She's going to be 13 at the end of this week. I almost never bath my dogs, their skin and coats are lovely. 3. What's going on at the back end? Does your dog produce firm stools? Or are they large mounds of mousse like poo (see this quite a bit) and are they foul smelling? I'd say a diet that sees your dog produce masses of soft smelly stools on a regular basis isn't ideal. Poos are normal apart from sometimes I see lots of seed from stolen chook food. Again 4. Does your dog smell? Teeth, anal glands, general odour? Diet can be frequent cause of these issues and making sure that your dog gets a decent amount of tooth cleaning via its diet and a decent amount of fibre can help with some of these issues. My dogs dont smell although as they are all aging now, I have started to have issues with teeth getting dirty. I suspect it is something to do with changing mouth chemistry, I've never had a problem with their teeth before, and even now it's only the 3 older girls, the boys teeth are still immaculate. 5. Does your dog LIKE its food? Some dogs are just picky but what you feed should be enjoyed by the dog. If you're constantly having to spice up the main part of your dog's diet with additives, I'd say its time to try something else. My dogs love their food. I've also started making it for a friends dogs too and they love it as well. Thoughts?? I would like to try feeding raw but have never got myself organised enough to do it.
  9. It's such a beautifully made little film too, it cant help but make you feel happy. :D I've got that song in my head now, and that's not a bad thing.
  10. I've seen this clip before and I LOVE IT!! Iggy Mum has a rescue who looks very much like this little girl and when I sent it to her she couldn't believe how alike they are. Here' Peanut for comparison. Peanut by kirislin, on Flickr Zoey & Peanut by kirislin, on Flickr Peanut by kirislin, on Flickr and lots of her here, being her Peanutty self
  11. Yes, I will and I'll continue to post them here for future reference in case others have similar eye bleeds. I tried to get some yesterday but it's hard by myself. My friend's coming down next week so I'll try again then.
  12. This probably sounds far fetched but do you know if they ever use infra red cameras to show up where the inflammation is?
  13. so sorry to hear about Faith, but you would be amazed at how well they can still manage. I dont intentionally drive with the windows down although with modern windows the dogs can open them!
  14. thankyou all, I'm feeling on top of the world right now. Another glass of wine will help it along too. :D If Pagans eye can heal too, well, I couldn't describe how good I'd feel.
  15. For Pagan the outcome is still guarded, it's healing but very slowly. Still not sure if the operation has been a success.
  16. He's so kind, I know he was in a hurry to get home but even before he asked me about Pagan he said now what's this with your sick dog and then after he'd looked at Pagan he came into the kitchen and we plonked Kibie up on the kitchen counter for her exam. She should feel at ease up there, she gets up enough when my back is turned.
  17. thankyou all for your good wishes and advice I hadn't intended to get a second opinion until some of you suggested it here, I was so resigned to her loosing her eye, and now that there's a bright glimmer of hope I feel as if I've won the lottery.
  18. FAR OUT FAR OUT FAR OUT!!!! I'M SO EXCITED I'M YELLING!!!! Andrew's just been and looked at Kibahs eye and said, "sit on it, dont do anything just yet" He said tumours in dogs eyes are extremely rare and he thinks it's an intrastromal bleed. I hope I've spelt that correctly. I questioned him about it because I can see it's changed since I first noticed it, and I got him to take notice of the way it's almost coming to a point now, like a pimple that comes to a head, but he still said dont do anything yet, just watch it. He's coming back in about 3 weeks and he's got 2 patients here now, Kibah and Pagan (mare). Phew, I feel like getting drunk, I'm so happy. I said to him, I could kiss you but that's inappropriate and he agreed with me and said no no, dont do that .

  20. It worked for me, it's very cute, I hope you can see it now.
  21. yes, it all sounds so matter of fact and doesn't describe the horrible way he suffered, but I thought the last paragraph was significant, and I hope some good comes of it.
  22. thanks all :) DD the eye specialist is coming out this evening to look at my mare so I've sent him an email to ask if he will also look at Kibahs eye. I haven't heard back from him, but I think he will say yes, he usually calls in here on his way home so it will only add another 10 minutes or so onto his journey. I'm really hoping I can get a definite answer as to what it is. I'm perfectly confident in my own vets ability to do the operation if it needs to be done, I just want to make sure it's the right course of action.
