  1. was he a feral cat? I used to have an orange cat but it was a girl, named Pumpkin.
  2. I am for them but I use them with caution. Our local park is off leash, but if I see a dog/s I dont know, I put mine on the leash. I've had a few incidents over the 13 years I've been going, the worst when Penny was attacked while she was still on leash but the other dog had broken loose. My dogs need a space to be able to run, that is bigger than my fenced yards though so I still take them there.
  3. I promise it wasn't me!! My first whippet I now believe was an IG whippet cross and she was indeed a wonderful dog but I dont encourage people to cross breed.
  4. I wonder if he was named Bo after the president? Good to see he's been trained a bit.
  5. Only just seen this thread. Best wishes Puppy Sniffer, I hope you heal well and fast.
  6. I cannot understand this. It seems Bobs life meant nothing.
  7. It seems weird that there is profit in selling such sickly puppies. It's not hard to buy a dog, surely there're enough healthy dogs in England without the need to smuggle mangy wormy flea ridden ones from Ireland.
  8. I pay in 2 or 3 year blocks, I cant remember which now but I've found it's worth it. Doesn't cost alot.
  9. I had no idea you were breeding from her! Yippeeee, I know we can be sure of some beautiful photos of them growing up. What a wonderful assortment of colours too, I didn't know there were so many variations. Congratulations to you all! It must have been very nerve wracking for you.
  10. I think I'm more flabbergasted that they specifically made a law that it was legal. I can understand there being no law, because maybe it never entered their heads that someone would do it, and I can then understand there being a law created to say it's ILLEGAL, but to specifically bring in a law to say it was OK is just too sick to contemplate.
  11. shocking. I thought it was illegal everywhere, but the fact that they actually deliberately made it legal in 1969 just makes my skin crawl. What, was there a petition or something to make them decide Oh so many people want to have sex with animals we'll bring in a law to make it OK. Ewwwww This brings back some creepy memories for me, I knew of a woman who had a sexual relationship with her GSD and when it died she had it stuffed.
  12. found this funny one of Penny taken a while ago
  13. Tag only gets into the clam shell, all the others are either to high or too small to appeal to him. I dont mind him getting into the clam shell, although the fish and taddies probably aren't too impressed.
  14. I have an uneasy feeling I've got a snake nearby somewhere. Feather was just barking and when I went to see what she was barking at, she was just standing by the decking, not looking out across the paddocks like she usually would be if there was a person or animal out there. The other dogs followed me and Puck immediately started sniffing as if there was something under the deck, then Kibah too and then Puck walked along the side of the house sniff sniff sniffing, I suspect following the trail of scent. I'm one for letting snakes be as long as they dont cause danger to my dogs, I accept that living in the country you have to share it with snakes, but I feel anxious now. I know silly Tag would attack a snake, I've already rescued one from him once before.
  15. I'm going to start growing water cress in one of mine, just bought the seeds today. Then I can start having edible water gardens. :D
  16. here's a start, but you can also just ask at your local nursery. http://www.ozwatergardens.com.au/home http://www.bluelotusfarm.com.au/ There's a frog forum which has lots of info to help you set up a frog habitat so they'll lay eggs. They also give advice on native fish varieties that will eat the mozzie larvae (wrigglers) http://frogs.org.au/community/
  17. Impossible here too. Hey! there's little things swimming around down here! by kirislin, on Flickr Mum, there's tadpoles in my pool by kirislin, on Flickr Whippapotamus by kirislin, on Flickr
  18. Yep, Bunnings, although I've never bought from them, but most nurseries have a water garden section. Dont get sucked into buying expensive lilies straight away though. I can even post you some rainbow nardoo and milfoil that you can pot up yourself if you want, oh, and azolla fern, that you just sprinkle on top of the water and it floats. The azolla gives good protection for gold fish against kookaburras, if you decide to get goldies. It just keeps on growing and you can scoop some off and put it in your compost or on the garden as mulch.
  19. I keep saying you dont get mozzies from them if you have fish in there, and the fish require no maintenance. It's easy. I've even put some fish in my horses water trough.
  20. I think people can get this from not washing veggies properly, is that right, things like lettuce, and probably parsley and mint, all of which I have growing, and I've got alot of snails. My chooks eat slugs, can birds get lung worm?
  21. No, the dogs dont eat the fish although Tag does still jump into the clam shells and they've got taddies and fish in there, so I would imagine they dont like it too much, but he doesn't do it alot. Some water plants are very easy to maintain. Milfoil and nardoo are pretty easy. There's a little native lily type thing with yellow flowers, might be nymphoidies or something like that. I used to have it but it must have died off. Once you've set it up there's not much to do. Some need to be re potted after a couple of years, but then you can divide them. The main thing is to put pebbles or river sand on top so the soil doesn't drift away, and fill the pond slowly, or add the pots very gently. Some need fertilizing, I've just given my lilies and the lotus some tablets. Not sure how the lotus will go, I only bought it last year, it was expensive and doesn't seem to be growing that well. Lilies are easier.
  22. Nope taddies dont seem to eat wrigglers but I have some little fish called white clouds because when I bought them I was told they're native to Australia. I've since found they are not, so dont let the go into our waterways, but they're little, tough as anything and eat wrigglers. You can get small native fish that will eat wrigglers and leave the taddies alone, that's what you want although if you can be sure of never letting the white clouds go they do the job very well too.
  23. I'm not much of a gardener but these are pretty easy. Mine aren't fancy, I dont have filters or pumps, it's all still water. When I want to freshen it up for the fishies I siphon some of the "dirty" water out and into a watering can and put it on my garden plants, especially the fruit and vegies and then top up the water gardens with fresh water. I love it on a hot day that there is so much water about.
  24. Yes do!! this was last years lily flowering. It's not the same one as the first pics. Water lilys first day by kirislin, on Flickr and this one's got rainbow nardoo, milfoil and azolla fern on it. IMG_4997dpp by kirislin, on Flickr this one's a creamy white, this is from last year, but it's currently flowering now too Water Lily by kirislin, on Flickr sooo pretty. do they attract mozzies or anything? Yes they do, that's why I had to add fish, so they would eat the wrigglers. There are still mozzies around here but it's not because of my watergardens. No wrigglers growing in them as I have fish in all of them. Very low maintenance though. I dont need to feed them, although sometimes I do just for a treat, but they seem to live off what ever other life grows in there. I also planted my dam, but big mistake to add the rainbow nardoo to it. It's completely covered the dam now and I suspect I will have to eventually get it dug deeper so at least the nardoo will only grow on the edge. From a tiny thread of a plant in only took a year to cover the dam. I've learnt from that one My first water lily by kirislin, on Flickr
