They sure are cute! :D

Totally. Looks can be deceiving! One of mine is a little energiser bunny, and the obstacles mentioned I guarantee would be no obstacle at all. They're also good at navigating around things and spotting paths that don't appear to be appropriate for human travelling :D One day I'd like to have a toy poodle, one of those lovely chestnut coloured ones. Not sure if that's what their colour is offically called.

I was just trying to help The cheapest I've seen it at DWI was $1300 and that was before the earthquake and tsunami. I see some lenses have dropped alot too.

You've made me cry. That was a lovely tribute. How lucky you both were to be lived some of your lives together, and how much better both lives were for that time.

Wow wow wow! this is the style I absolutely love! I much prefer this to the photographic style of drawing where every hair is depicted, I want a drawing/painting to look like just that. To capture the essence without every single minute detail included. Kitkat you're a real artist. I love Frodo and his bucket and Charm on the toned paper. Are these charcoal and pastel? I'm a great fan of Cecil Aldin so my greatest compliment to you is to say these remind me of his work.

In Victoria there are breeders of non pedigree lines who've been racing and breeding from those dogs for generations. It doesn't guarantee a faster whippet though. There was a bloke who had both peds and non peds and he had some beautiful and fast dogs, but he got out of it a few years back and sold his dogs. I would guess they are probably in pet or hunting homes now if there's any left. The racing whippet club itself has declined in numbers over the last few years so there aren't alot of dogs like that around now. It might be worth you contacting them http://www.wrcv.asn.au/Committee.html I'd probably speak to Carol. I should just clarify, there are also pedigree whippet owners who raced their whippets, I was one of them, but generally the pedigrees aren't quite as fast as the non pedigree race bred whippets. They often look different too, some racing whippets were very flat backed, like a shrunk down greyhound, and others were very "bulky" looking, not all, but some. I remember some lines had piggy little eyes too, I wasn't keen on those ones You dont have to buy a racing whippet to race one though, if you have a pedigree and there's a racing club in Qld I'm sure they'd welcome you. It's fun, give it a go. My whippets were from generations of show dogs and they loved it. When I told their breeders how well they did they were both surprised and proud. :D another edit, there was an incredibly fast pedigree whippet who came from Qld and gave the non peds a run for their money, I believe he was bred by DOLs Oakway! A black and white dog that was very intense, I remember when he was put in the holding kennels, as the lure went past he started jumping straight up in the air with such force he nearly tore the roof off the kennel.

Funny Mis-informed Things People Say About Dogs
Kirislin replied to spoilt lab lives here's topic in General Dog Discussion
You can tell if a Stafforshire Terrier is purebred because a purebred will always have 5 moles on its face. I've found that most (if not all) dogs have five moles on their face, not counting their eyebrows. -
It's coming soon, I just got the email reminding me. Put your name down

my 50 1.4 started playing up but I got it fixed for free when it was just out of warrantty. It's been fine since.

I've seen 2 adult whippets with dropped ears, I dont know what the correct term is, that's just my term, the ear seems to be set lower than the other, I dont know if it's a defect they're born with or caused by an injury shortly after birth.

some chihuahuas might do it. I've known some lovely ones and if they cant manage the last few k's they're small enough to put in your backpack.

awww what a funny little thing she is. I haven't seen a Peke in the flesh for many years now. I had one as a kid Pixie her name was, and she was a sweet girl. Post more of your girl please.

A Musician Who Loves Her Dog
Kirislin replied to Lady Flying Furball's topic in General Dog Discussion
I thought there were a few pauses in the music that would've been perfect for a WOOF! to be put in there, I actually started listening for them. -
It's good you have them to comfort you. How do they know. My girl Penny is a smooch but certainly not a lap dog, she's not comfy on laps, but a friend of mine went through a couple of rough patches, and each time I saw her and she cried, Penny just gently and quietly climbed onto her lap, and just sat, no licking/kissing or annoying behaviour, just quietly sat and comforted her while my friend sobbed into her fur.

I think I use my 3 (50mm 1.4, 100mm macro, & 70-200mm 2.8) equally. I do have a 4th lens that I hardly ever use, I dont like it.

Dont upgrade for the sake of upgrading. Is there something you want to do and your camera cannot deliver?

woo hoo! it's exciting isn't it. I dont know Nikon but I'm sure you will get some fabulous shots from it. There are a few Nikonians here that will be able to give you advice. Congratulations, I've found my camera is almost like a diary of my life these days. I take it with me almost always, when I go somewhere, well, not supermarket shopping but most other places.
