  1. I love it although I still find all the controls and options daunting. I feel like a learner driver thrown behind the wheel of a formula one. I doubt I'll ever use it to its full potential but I'm having fun and it will probably be the only camera I have until I run it into the ground, which hopefully will be a long time away. Correction, I am very tempted by those point and shoot cameras you can take in water I've seen kja and Ripley use.
  2. I dont know about Nikon but the Canon 50 1.4 is known to have auto focus problems. I didn't know this when I bought mine, it was only after I had trouble I looked into it and found it's a fairly common problem, although Canon deny that. I think both Shell and Terra might have had the same problem as well. Since I've had mine back it's been fine, I hope I dont tempt fate by mentioning this cause if it fails again now it's not covered by warranty. If it was to fail again I would look at getting another brand to replace it.
  3. What is micro four thirds, is that what our crop cameras are?
  4. beautiful baby Ange, is he/she yours? If you like taking close ups of bugs and stuff maybe a macro is calling your name.
  5. Dont forget to take your battery charger. TD that photo is a beauty. I love wedge tailed eagles, I always get excited when I see them flying low, that must have been a real buzz for you, and to get that shot as well, wow!
  6. All the photos in this thread were taken with a 50mm. so that gives you an idea of what it can do. It's different to your other 2 lenses, they are zoom but the 50 is not. You cant zoom anything, if you want to get closer to something you physically move closer, you zoom with your feet so they say. The reason we all love it is it's a very sharp lens and is good in low light because you can open the aperture up, that's the number 1.8 or 1.4 we mention. The price varies alot depending on whether you buy online or in a shop. I bought my 50 1.4 from a shop over 2 years ago and it was nearly $600 then. If I'd bought it online I would have got it alot cheaper but I did have trouble with mine and it had to be repaired, which was eventually done free of charge even though the warranty had just expired, I'm not sure how well that would have been dealt with if I'd had to deal with the online guarantee, and the 1.4 is known for the problem I had, auto focus failure. In fact a few DOLers have had the same problem with theirs. The 1.8 is alot cheaper so if something went wrong it's not such a drain on your wallet should you have to chuck it, although I dont think it's known for the auto focus failure of its more expensive brother. Right now it's only $87 from DWI an online seller but you've still got postage on top and they charge a bit for that. It might be worthwhile comparing the diff between them and a retail shop. http://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/store/...sp?idProduct=63 I think the 1.8 would be a good start for you. It's a much loved little lens often affectionately referred to as the "nifty fifty"

  8. very pretty indeed, very grandma-ish, I always think of grandmas and the blue rinse set when I see hydrangas (sp?) but I dont mean that in a bad way, I love them, I'm the same when I see floral bone china tea cups.
  9. DA, you managed to get a sparkle in the water drops! Whiskedaway I love the bottoms up moment. I do love the photos section of DOL, it's the place here I visit the most. Always something to make me smile, or admire, or just be amazed at the talent of some people.
  10. How did he do? Lovely capture too :p He didn't win but we didn't expect him to, he's been retired for almost a year so he'd fallen from the publics memory. Still he was in the top 3 in the state so they're pretty happy about it. He deserves his happy retirement now and that's what he's getting.
  11. Week 5, no idea what I did, just started pushing buttons in Picasa, ooh, I wonder what this does type of thing.
  12. Well come on then, if you told me you didn't take your camera I wouldn't believe you.
  13. I went to see the Yarra river in flood today and there was a couple there with a baby and a dog, this big fatty called Shana. She knew all about the simple pleasures of life, as any dog does. That's the car park she's running through, the river is supposed to be about 50 metres away.
