  1. How far out of warranty is it. If it's not long they might honour it.
  2. very pretty lic. Well done, it always looks like icing sugar waterfalls to me. I tried one of these but it didn't turn out. I haven't worked out how to do it yet. I understand in principle, you need a long exposure but mine was a dismal failure.
  3. I know whippets are supposed to be these aloof, elegant almost cat like dogs, but Puck and Tag haven't read the hand book. They are noisy boisterous dogs, and I love them.
  4. The 7D is used by alot of sports photographers because of its frames per second and fast auto focus. I you find that's where the 1000D is letting you down then you might like the 7D. What lenses have you got now?
  5. Looking good, I have to tell you I LOVE the shot of your pood leaping through the daffodils.
  6. Oh, I forgot to say CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! :) :D
  7. check that the cf cards you have will be OK for the 7D, it would be very frustrating to find you have the camera but cant use it yet.
  8. Not sure if I've done it right, I've created a set on my flickr account for 52 weeks of the Puckster (Puck the whippet) http://www.flickr.com/photos/32012294@N02/...57625563212173/
  9. I still haven't worked out my settings, I dont know if I have it on the best for what I want, there's so much stuff on it, so many options and controls it's scary! I think I am only using a pinheads size of what it capable of. I feel like a learner pilot in charge of a jumbo jet.
  10. Does it have to be the same one dog all year, not just any of my dogs?
  11. I got mine through DWI and purchased a Mack warranty but I think I probably shouldn't have bothered. Reason being, I have insurance for the camera anyway so if I break it or loose it, it's covered, plus you can get a 7D so cheaply now through DWI that it's just about as cheap as buying one 2nd hand, which of course wouldn't be covered by a warranty. DWI supposedly covers it for a year anyway. Right now they're more than $200 cheaper than I got mine for. I feel like buying another one I'm sure you'll get differing opinions on the warranty, but that's mine.
  12. It doesn't say how much they are.
  13. More congratulations are in order! What a lovely gift and a good hubby.
  14. what's collar cam, is it really made to go on dogs collars? Now we can have dogs posting pics in the photo forum in their own right
  15. Well aren't you a lucky girl!! I think you'll have lots of fun with it. Read the manual, ask questions, and post pics often.
  16. I bet she wasn't the only one who did a face plant in her dinner plate yesterday.
  17. He's an impressive looking lad. Why doesn't he usually look any good in pics?
  18. I notice you used AI servo when you took the pic of the dog. Since he was standing still you might have been better with using one shot to lock on focus. Dont be too disheartened just yet.
  19. are you sure you didn't just drop them from a great height? The looks on their faces are priceless.
  20. wow, there's some brilliant ones here, you guys are amazing!
  21. Wow, what a camera to start with!! Lucky you! What lenses have you got and what did you use for these pics. How are you finding it, is it complicated for you? I still find my 7D daunting after 8 or 9 months! You have some gorgeous subjects to take photos of, you'll have a great time. edit, just remembered, you've posted before. You really must join in the challenges and get more involved here!
  22. Here's an example, I stood in exactly the same spot in the yard and both lenses on 2.8 50mm 100mm and just for the hell of it, the same 50mm pic but cropped.
  23. The 50mm will give you a wider field of view too, the 105mm will give you a narrower field of view but they will appear closer, must be that compression Ash is talking about. So just say you were trying to take pics of a couple of dogs you'd have to step further away from them to fit them in if you had the 105 on. That's what Huga meant by using the 50 indoors and the 105 being too big, you wouldn't have enough room to step back and fit everything in. Where abouts are you in Melb and what brand camera do you have. If you're not far away I can let you try both, well, mine's a 100mm not 105.
