  1. she sounds sick or in pain or both. I hope she will be OK, I think the vet is a good idea. best of luck and please let us know how she goes.
  2. I think they just look like lax/slack toes, my understanding of a dropped toe is that it's not a dislocation, it's either tendons or ligaments, I always mix the two up, have torn so they no longer support the toe and it just sits flat. I've had whippets dislocate their toes before too and usually they stick out sideways and you can pop them back in. Often that is a recurring problem but it's not the same as a dropped toe. There's a good photo here showing dropped toes. http://www.whippetworld.net/board/viewtopi...974&start=0
  3. You can see the detail on the face. I think that setting has potential too, I like the colours and the weathered timbers.
  4. I think you did really well! In the second photo I can see water in the distance, is that flood water or just a lake or river that's always there? Which lens did you use and were you fully zoomed in with it. Have you cropped these at all, you might find you can still crop them a bit to bring the subject closer.
  5. definitely take it in before the warranty expires even if you only have an intermittent problem. Then at least they have it on record that you have a problem with it. They might even be able to replicate the problem there but even if they cant you might at least have a chance of getting it fixed it it does spit the dummy when the warranty expires.
  6. that is so damn cute!!!! Looks like a clever ploy of hers so she gets to eat the rejects.
  7. sorry you're not well tlc, but good to know you are in the capable care of Dr Cooper.
  8. Yeah, I am not sure I'd buy another, I've heard good things about the Sigma, the colour is supposed to be richer and the bokeh better, although I've also heard it isn't always calibrated accurately so the focus might be off until it's sent back for recalibration. I am not sure if they improved their quality control with that, I suppose the place you could ask is POTN. Sorry yours is starting to play up too Terra, that's starting to look like a fairly high rate of failure just amongst us DOLers.
  9. well spotted, yes he's the one who was in that photo with Penny where she was taking the apple and he wasn't happy about it. I'm heading off shortly to that orchard to see if they've got any seconds for the dogs. Might be some more apple photos soon. Happy Birthday for yesterday Zenith. I love the photo and the sweet card from the kids. Terra you must have limitless imagination for that challenge you've set your self. I'm loving this months challenge again and everyones efforts. I've been slack on them for quite a while but a photo a day makes you put in.
  10. I like these 2 better than my apple photos earlier today. Tag Penny she's almost 12 years old but still looking good.
  11. She's probably wondering why you didn't take her with you.
  12. so far I haven't had much luck with trying to grow food. My dogs sniff out everything and eat it before I can. They love apples but the trees are only young and the whippets haven't realised that apples grow on trees, they think they come in boxes or bags. I am watching these ones hopefully but just in case the whippets find them before they've fully grown and ripened, well, at least I will have a photograph of them. this is supposed to be a sundowner but it looks like a pink lady to me. and this is supposed to be a gala, either way, I dont really care what they are, I just hope I get a chance to eat some of them before the demon dogs find them.
  13. that happened to mine too, I wrote about it here, it was just out of warranty and I'd already sent it back when it was still within warranty but at that time they couldn't find the fault. Luckily for me after a bit of too-ing and fro-ing and a quote of almost $400 they eventually said they'd fix it for nothing "as a gesture of goodwill". The 1.4 is known for this problem although Canon denied that when I said I'd heard it was known for it. I almost wonder if we'd be better of just buying the cheapie and throwing it away when it stops working and just get another one.
  14. My poor Pucky, as if he hasn't got enough to deal with, he's already got a deformed and stunted right front leg and now I think he's got a dropped toe on his good foot. It's only just happened in the last couple of days, I've noticed the outside front left toe seems to sit out flat and straight. I can tuck it back in but it doesn't stay like that. I remember my old girl Kiri eventually had very flat front feet, but they weren't always like that, it was some kind of injury. I would imagine if all Puckys toes went like this it would be painful to run because his feet wouldn't have any spring in them, the toes would just bend till they were flat and had no give. I dont know if there is any treatment for this or even if this is what is called a dropped toe, but I suspect it is. Here it is showing the recent change when it's flat. and here I've tucked it in how it is supposed to look
  15. I hope someone more experienced comes in here cause I haven't taken any flash pics so I am not sure if you do need to bump up the ISO if you use flash. Maybe just play it safe and use one of the auto modes if your camera has them, perhaps night time mode if there's such a thing. Mine hasn't got anything like that. I cant remember what camera you have.
  16. Yay for Meerkats!! Hmm do they have pink elephants...? all depends on what you drink for breakfast.
  17. You should probably ask if you're allowed to use a flash, I suspect they would say no. Take your fastest lens, and set a high ISO. I hope you get some good shots and you post them here.
  18. Weekends might be even busier than weekdays. We were there waiting outside for it to open last time.
  19. You've been so lucky with those two that they got on together from the start, it really was a perfect match. Now when I look at her I see perhaps rotti/kelpie which I see you mentioned earlier on. It wouldn't surprise me if they are at least 2 of the breeds in her recent background. All the photos you have taken are just wonderful. So much expression in them.
  20. Seriously, you people are amazing. Too many good photos to comment on, I find myself just going through and thinking at every photo, ooh that's good. I loved the funny little foal doing a face plant into mummys bum
  21. these are fabulous! where were you, were they wild or in some kind of sanctuary. You got very close.
  22. first time I've ever seen a lady farrier at work. She even got out some sandpaper and smoothed it over and then oiled his hooves. It really was a manicure.
