what good sound advice Neko's brother Arkey just broke his leg a week ago today. He's got external fixations on it and bandaging around it all for now. No e collar and he hasn't touched the dressing at all. He's crated when his owner goes out, which is only for a couple of hours at the most and the rest of the time he's allowed in the one room that all the other dogs are loose in. Access outside is restricted to him going out with his owner alone off leash, but when the other dogs are around he's either on a leash or put into a tiny fenced grass area about the size of a toilet cubicle, which is what it's used for with him. I hope your little one settles. I agree with trying her with more room but not anywhere she can jump or run or get up any speed.

Could it be that the plaster is hurting her, that's why she's chewing at it? Could she have had a different method of repair that wouldn't rub? If she didn't need the collar she might not be so difficult.

No, not much leeway with dogs and too much risk of them being underdone. At least the vet knows and will be ready to do a caesar if needs be, but I really hope it doesn't come to that. I'm so nervous. The thought of anything happening to Neko just frightens me, I'm stressing about it so much.

Pets In Danger After Pet Sitter Becomes Incapacitated .
Kirislin replied to Tassie's topic in General Dog Discussion
does anyone know if the story was ever verified and the animals found? -
His owners have been incredibly generous allowing Neko to be mated to Bipsy. He had only just been released from Quarantine that day, and Neko was on day 14 of her season and had been standing for several days, so was most likely past the best time to be mated, which probably accounts for why we only have 2 puppies, still, we're lucky to get any at all. Not long now. I picked up all the whelping stuff from Marcus yesterday. I think I'll set it up in my bedroom so today I will shampoo the carpets and make it all spic and span in there because this time next week it will be very close. Puppies due from next Sunday.

You have an abundance of choice. :D

Don’t blame you. I’d be worried sick even if the babes were littlies. Such a lot for these little bodies to go through. Where is Marcus? Is he on hand? AS soon as she goes into labour I will ring him but Marcus isn't anymore experienced than I am so I'll also ring the vet.

I'm so worried about her because I know there's just 2 whoppers in there.

I must come across as alot more serious than I am. :D

Yes, it was one in particular, Milton, the first born who was big, I think he weighed 280gms or thereabouts and Neko and Arkey were around 220gm which is still quite big for an IG I think, although not sure because I haven't bred any and breeders dont mention birth weights very often so it's hard to find out. I know Kibahs whippet puppies were around the same size as Widgets babies at birth, she was a small whippet and she had 9 jammed inside her. At least my vet knows he might be needed at short notice for a caesar.
-
Yeah, a bit scary but at least the vet knows and will be there for me. He was really lovely and said I can ring him anytime, even if I just need to talk to make sure things are going as normal. It's very reassuring because I'm pretty nervous about it all. He made me run down what I know of the first signs and if there's something wrong and corrected me on a couple. I'll still be scared witless I just know it, I'm a stress head.

OK so I have some news. I think I can hire myself out as a foetal puppy heart beat counter, she is indeed having 2 puppies. I took her to the vet today just as a final check and to make sure I can ring him in the middle of the night if needs be and he offered to get the ultrasound out, "just for fun" he said. I think the vets like doing things like that sometimes instead of looking for sinister tumours and things. We got a good look at them and they're BIG!!! so perhaps it's good to be forewarned as well. He measured one and it was 13cm long, I hope that's including the tail, I didn't think to ask. If it's not we're in trouble, it would be labrador sized.

This might help....Greyhound, Whippet, Italian Greyhound great photo comparison, thanks!

ah yes, the t-shirt. Funny story about that. The very same day I posted the link here to it, I got an email from redbubble telling me they'd taken it down because it had been brought to their attention that it breached copyright or something like that, I forget now. It didn't because we bought the image and then put our own text in it but I couldn't be bothered arguing with them so let it go. I dont know if someone saw it after clicking the link here and decided to complain. It wouldn't be the first time someone's done something like that. (insert Mr Rolly eyes here) Whippets and IGs are usually a different shape, but sometimes even I've looked at either a very small whippet, or a very large IG and thought they could be mistaken for the other breed. IG's are definitely more fragile looking and dont stand over the ground like a whippet who has quite different angulation. A whippet is usually longer than it is high and IG is more square in shape. A whippet is much more robust looking.

thanks for that. The thing that makes Dr Jemimas unique though is that it is Canines working on canines. I think as shown by the video dogs feel more comfortable if one of their own species is working on them. Dr Jemimas patient, Forrest the Greyhound has had no sedation in the above video and you can see for yourself how relaxed he is.

I know I see a few people asking about this method of teeth cleaning for canines so thought I'd post this as a public service to those seeking it out. Roskyle Dental Services are pleased to announce their highly trained dental practitioner Jemima can now perform all your canine dental needs painlessly and without any form of drugs or sedation. She is also fully qualified to work on human patients as well, although until now there has not been demand for this. Bookings are essential. Video 3 by kirislin, on Flickr

I've got some sad news that I haven't felt up to mentioning for a few days. I'm including it here because this thread has become the lifelong chronicles of Widgets litter, mainly Neko and her brother Arkey. While Arkey's owner Marcus has been doing a good turn for someone else and house sitting and caring for all their dogs, he had to leave his own dogs in the care of someone else. A few days ago while out walking with all of them Arkey was hunting bunnies and broke his leg. His carer didn't see what happened she just followed his screams to find him so can only assume he was running full pelt and put his foot down a hole. He was a successful show dog, although only lightly shown he almost had his championship points and then he and his Dad discovered the joys of chasing the drag lure. Arkey was a natural and it was looking like he would have a great career in racing and coursing. Now it's all on hold. Marcus has chosen the external fixation method because he believes Arkey has the greatest chance of a full recovery that will allow him to lead an active life and be able to run without fear of his leg breaking where an internally fixed plate might be. I'm a bit worried she's not growing fast enough now. Although it's absolutely pointless and a waste of energy worrying about something I cannot change. I think she might only have 2, possibly 3 puppies. I really hope I am wrong though and she has more and what ever happens I hope babies and mum will be OK. We're coming down to the wire now, less than 2 weeks to go. My house will be full to the brim because a friend's going into hospital and I'm looking after her dogs too.

Week 7 and her weight is 6.2kgs. I would have expected her to put on a bit more weight this week. I hope all is well. I can still feel puppies moving. 5F6A4908dpptw by kirislin, on Flickr 5F6A4907dpptw by kirislin, on Flickr

unfortunately they dont work. I still hear people calling them whippets, but I haven't quite plucked up the courage to whack them across the head yet.
