thanks Boronia. I saw most of those. I really wish they still made these ones. I will probably just get a hacksaw blade and fix a handle onto it if I cant get one the same.

I put this in the wrong place so posting again here in the hope someone knows where to get one. I remember this comb from when I was a kid. I loved using it to strip out our dogs coat. I found it again when cleaning out Mums house. It nearly got chucked until I spotted it and rescued it. I'd love to get a new version of it, but exactly the same. Anyone ever seen them for sale? 5F6A2721_1 by kirislin, on Flickr

Wishing you a very Happy Birthday Maddie. or in this house a very Happy Roast Chicken Day!

I remember this comb from when I was a kid. It was fantastic for stripping out the old coat of one of our dogs. I was the only one to groom him and I loved this little comb. I was helping clean out my mothers house and this very nearly got chucked but I spotted it first and rescued it. Looking alot worse for wear now but still works brilliantly. That white stuff is from my poor old mares scurfy coat. I've been out there trying to strip her Winter coat. Does anyone know where I could get one of these. I dont want something similar, I want one just like this. 5F6A2721_1 by kirislin, on Flickr

lovely! What a great photo. Obedient dogs too.

Gus! Not cool bud. I figure they break on the way down....not a smart dog. maybe he was a python in another life, that's how they eat eggs
-
someone stole an egg today.

have you shown him the photos? Does he like them? Post them to a casting agency. He might get a call.

they work it out for themselves. I haven't given Feather one for a while, I think I used to have to find a little stone with a point on it and make a little hole for her. I dont think Neko's ever had one. I very much doubt she'd be able to work it out for herself. Perhaps I should test her. Tag is very clever. The other day he heard one of the chooks clucking her victory egg laying announcement cluck and he took off at full pelt headed for the henhouse. I stopped him and got the egg myself but if I wasn't there he would have had it for sure.

Poor dog, what an ordeal. I hope where ever he ends up he settles and has a good life. Must be heartbreaking for her to have to let them all go too. -
You bet! The very first time it happened Feather bit Neko on the toe. The was a tiny bit of blood but much screaming and I was in such a panic I rushed Neko to the vet, which was totally unnecessary and a waste of money but from the carry on she made I thought she must have been mortally wounded. She even put poor Feather in a panic.

You have given great background and detail and sound like a very attentive and observant person. I'd be inclined to let them work it out but certainly have 2 beds where each can go although I'm assuming pesky puppy will follow Bennie where ever he goes. It's going to be up to Bennie to tell him off. It reminds me alot of the relationship Feather 13 yo whippet and Neko 2 yo Italian Greyhound have. Feather is very non alpha too and grumbles and Neko who ignores her. Sometimes eventually after much provoking Feather will bite Neko and then there's much screaming and yelping.

we hope Bundy had a Happy Roast Chicken day too.

thanks. As they age now I wonder each birthday if it will be their last. I've decided to from here on declare they will no longer have Happy Birthdays they will now be called Roast Chicken Days

My boys Tag and Puck turned 11 today. When Feather had her 13th birthday a few months ago I cooked the dogs a roast chicken dinner, complete with veggies just the same as you would do for a sit down Sunday roast. I gave them the best bits and I had the wings. I've since decided that every birthday now will be roast chicken for the dogs so we had a repeat tonight. Earlier in the day I gave the boys an egg each, this is also a special treat. They sometimes steal the eggs but this time it was legal. Tag just lay down and licked his. 5F6A2589_1 by kirislin, on Flickr But Puck who often reminds me of Penny ate his just like she used to, with her bottom in the air and her eyes closed in bliss as she licked out the yummy yolk. I dont think I ever got a photo of Penny doing it so I'm glad I managed to get my Pucky today. 5F6A2591_1 by kirislin, on Flickr

Not just breeding either. I once expressed concern on facebook about the really fat IGs I was seeing, not just the little chubby ones, but ones that are easily twice the healthy weight they should be. I got howled down that it was the owners right to have the dog at the weight they wanted and how dare I try to suggest otherwise. Personally I feel it's form of abuse. Some owners appear proud that their giant IG weighs 12 or more kilos.

I always love your crazy descriptions. They're so visual, I can see it all.

My concern with bats would be their droppings, the risk of disease. We know how dogs love to eat other animals' poo.
-
I've got a grape vine, it's about 10 years old now and I've never had a single grape off it, so dont have to worry about the dogs eating them. I've started using the leaves now for dolomades and giving up on the grapes. Mulberry trees apparently grow big. What about a fig tree?

He's a picky eater. I coaxed him to eat 2 drumsticks. I even bought chicken giblets yesterday in the hope of fattening him a bit. Penny used to love them so I thought I'd tempt him with them. Nup, he wouldn't touch them, while all of mine were hovering like vultures saying give them to us! I eventually roasted them for him and he ate them oh so slowly. I suspect they had the texture of wet suit material, but he did like them cooked.
-
for the record, he ate it all, the chooks were a bit cautious because they've been warned off by my whippets in the past, but they recognised he was new and singled him out. I had to stand guard to make sure they didn't steal it from him, I did see him give them the evil eye a few times too. Essie scored some by my mistake though. I pulled a bit of meat off for him on the 2nd drumstick because he was a bit tired and she ran up and grabbed it out of my hand. It was too big for her to immediately swallow and she had Betty and Tag chasing her. It was quite interesting that Tag was following her, my dogs normally ignore the chooks but he knew she stole it from me and so followed her for a bit. He must have been thinking since it was stolen it would belong to anyone who could get it.

ooops posted in wrong section. Am I going bonkers? I wrote the above comment because I thought I'd posted this in OT. Now I'm not sure if it's been moved and someone's playing with my head, or I posted it here all along. Perfect chance to use this.

I have a house guest tonight. Nekos brother Arkey. He's so innocent, he doesn't live with chickens. Here he is eating his chicken drumstick and look at the 2 hecklers in the background working out how to steal his dinner, the bloody cannibals. 5F6A2324_1 by kirislin, on Flickr

it's great that you can still keep in touch here. Internet takes away the distance and the time like we never could have imagined. The photos are lovely. Those cascades of silken hair in the afternoon light.

I wonder if you can give her time with a good female dog who's had puppies before. She might teach her some manners. Even male dogs will do it, but you need to get ones who wont tolerate a naughty rough puppy, she needs to be put in her place firmly.
