  1. and come on, you still haven't changed your siggy!
  2. sounds like you've got yourself a very chilled out girl. If you're lucky enough to get this type they are the easiest most fun dogs to have because you can take them anywhere and they're never a bother. Not all whippets are like this though, but they're the ones everyone hopes to get. Lucky lucky YOU!! I had a pair, Kiri and Iris, about the same age but from different breeders. One was a pedigree and the other not even a full whippet, although she looked like one, I think she had a touch of greyhound in her. Anyway, I was alot younger then and much more active. I'd take them camping, go on horse riding adventures with them, everywhere I went, so did they. The only place I didn't take them was to work with me. I rarely had to put them on a lead, I never taught them the formal and most basic commands such as sit, stay, heel etc. I just didn't need to. I'd just say 'hang about whips' when I didn't want the to run away. When it was safe for them to go ahead I'd just say 'get going' and off they'd run. On the few occasions that I did have a lead on them, if I went into a shop I'd just drape their leads over their backs and tell them to wait outside, and they would! None of my current whippets are like this. I could only dream of treating this lot like those 2 girls.
  3. I just got a small cardboard box, taped it up securely and then cut a round hole in it to place the bowl in. Works a treat, doesn't look too flash but the dog doesn't care. Yeah. That's what I'm doing today but not sure how long they will last, particularly for water bowls outside. what about some bricks?

  5. Not for long. ANKC is changing rules to see all dogs of colours described as "highly undesireable" placed on Limit register and not to be upgraded. You'd be pushing it uphill showing a dog of a highly undesireable colour. I doubt any of these are shown. I wonder how that colour got into the breed and my guess is that a lot of Dachshund people are too. I'm thinking maybe it's gradually been bred out, rather than recently been bred in, since it's mentioned in the standard. Maybe it's like rough coated whippets, they were eventually bred out although even now I see whippets with a harsh coat that I think is a remnant of the old type of coat that some had.
  6. yeah she's having fun with Grace. I love her eyes too. Some IGs have quite small eyes and I prefer Nekos, they're large and expressive but not too buggy either.
  7. Yep, I copied the standard too. It was definitely a pied dog, she called it that and I think she is a pet owner so it is what the breeder told her. To me it looked similarly coloured to something like a Tenterfield terrier, not exactly but it had a predominantly white body with some black and tan on the head and patches on its body.
  8. I saw a pied dachshund on the weekend. I chatted to the lady because I thought it was a cross but she said the breeder imported the parent, or parents. I looked up the standard and I find it confusing. In one part it says "no white permissible" but further down it says some colours, including pied are "highly undesirable" to me that doesn't mean they're not allowed. Could a pied dachshund be placed on the full register and shown? I'm not about to get myself a dachshund, I'm just curious. All colours permitted but no white permissible, save for a small patch on chest which is permitted but not desirable. The dapple pattern is expressed as lighter coloured areas contrasting with the darker base. Neither the light nor the dark colour should predominate. Double dapple (where varying amounts of white occur all over the body in addition to the dapple pattern) is unacceptable. Pied, tricolour and the dilute colours isabella and blue are highly undesirable. Nose and nails black in all colours except chocolate/tan and chocolate dapple where they are brown.
  9. I haven't posted for a while, dear oh dear, anyone would think I didn't love my baby girl anymore! Couldn't be further from the truth, here she is. Pity about the wood pile in front of her but she just looked so pretty. 5F6A3983dpptc by kirislin, on Flickr playing keepings off with little Grace, a houseguest. 5F6A4003dpptc by kirislin, on Flickr 5F6A3996dpptc by kirislin, on Flickr she's still got the most amazing eyes. 5F6A3981dpptc by kirislin, on Flickr My little champion campdrafting pony 5F6A3980dpptc by kirislin, on Flickr round 'er up Neek Neek! 5F6A3979dpptc by kirislin, on Flickr
  10. it does leave a scar Yep, I think this is what my friends got done on their bitch. Was very successful, lots of puppies.
  11. yes, but it's not IVF (in-vitro fertilisation) it's just AI. I've got friends who had their racing greyhound impregnated like that. I think it's fairly common in the greyhound industry. They got 10 puppies from it.
  12. I've got big plastic barrels with lids. I dont feed dry food anymore but I use them for horse feed now or what ever I want to keep protected from insects or vermin. I even store horse rugs in one.
  13. Or any other suitably built dog. A thylacine suit. https://www.etsy.com/listing/199183561/thylacine-jumpsuit-made-to-order?utm_source=OpenGraph&utm_medium=PageTools&utm_campaign=Share
  14. ask them to test for giardia. You'll need a poo sample.
  15. Kirty, yours sounds much the same as my "terms" with the person who bred Neko. She hasn't actually had a litter yet but I hope it goes as well as yours did. It all sounds the same, we've discussed it but nothing in writing. I trust him.
  16. I agree with this. The parent of the child has enough to deal with taking children with her and shopping at bunnings, now she's got biting dogs in the mix too. If people want to take their dogs to bunnings, or anywhere else, then they need to be watchful for situations like small children approaching and muzzle their dogs if they're likely to bite.
  17. Oh! you've caught me in the shower, wont be a minute!" That's what it makes me think.
  18. I am a member of a breed club and I joined to support them and the breed, but I have to say it's been a total disappointment and waste of money. I've got nothing back in return, not even a receipt. (and I know they got my payment). There have been no members activities, no social events, no club organised shows, no newsletters, absolutely nothing. I wont bother joining next year.
  19. can someone point me to the facebook page that has this story? from now on I hope the owner doesn't let him go loose where there are wombat holes, because there's a fair chance the dog hasn't learnt not to go down them.
  20. I've seen Whippet/Bedlingtons in Australia. They always seem to come out the same, like little tiny deerhounds in appearance, although their hair is silky soft. I saw one recently looking for a home. Are you looking for a puppy or young dog?
  21. One lucky puppy, what are the chances I wonder.
  22. I would say definitely bring her muzzle. Sometimes we let dogs free run at the start and end of the day and during the lunch break. When it was mostly whippets this wasn't an issue but I wouldn't want to let a whole lot of mixed breed dogs run freely together. As we are getting more and more breeds coming along most of the owners of the other breeds keep their dogs on leads. I dont let Neko run with the pack, even when it's mostly whippets. She's too little and they're too fast. Now sometimes if she happens to be off because I'm setting up, she has the good sense to stay close. Do you have a dog crate?
  23. I wouldn't use it for running but it might be good to give you reassurance that she's not going to snap if you just want to come along to have a look. If we've got larger racing muzzles for sale or hire, you're welcome to try them on her. Sometimes you can bend them to shape. If you ever see greyhounds racing you'll see how wide they open their mouths.
  24. the muzzle needs to be one that allows her to open her mouth. Next Saturday one wont be until next year now Bummer
