  1. (Fresh) lemongrass tea. Chocolate truffles ... kahlua-flavoured on the left, chilli flavoured on the right (rolled in hot Incan chilli cocoa powder). Cappuccino custard, from a recipe book from an ex-SS, TB Rosemary foccacia before going in the oven. I like to document my experiments with food and then subject unsuspecting guests to the results.
  2. I heard that morning's broadcast, too, and asked him about it the next time I went into my local vet office (where he also practices). I waited for him to tell me what good condition my (then) 8yo dog was in, and how perfect his teeth are When pressed, he said that it's a case of going with the lowest common denominator. The majority of pet owners, who do not do as much research into appropriate bones, supplements etc as DOLers tend to do), have a better chance of giving their dogs a balanced diet if it's a commercial one. Whereas if you tell the average person to feed their dogs bones, they'll chuck out the cooked roast chook carcass, remainders of a leg of lamb or whatever. Which he said would mean vets would see more dogs with troubles caused by splintered bones, dogs with nothing else in their diet but bones (cooked and raw) with very little meat on them and so on. I'm not excusing him, as I think he should have qualified his statements on-air by saying that when done RIGHT, raw meaty bones can be an ideal part of a dog's diet. But there you are.
  3. Canberra and surrounds Longpark Meat Co Paragon Mall, Gladstone St, Fyshwick ph 02 6280 4338 Order on Friday for Saturday pickup by midday. Brett the butcher is lovely. It cost me $34 for enough chicken wings, minced carcasses, lamb flaps, lamb necks and marrowbone for my 30kg dog for just over three weeks. He eats two 300g all-raw meals per day. Cardawan Pet Supplies 116 Uriarra Rd, Queanbeyan ph 02 6297 9154 This chap is a greyhound breeder and racer, I think? I've got beef and roo mince from him before, dried roo tails, dried lamb necks as well as supplements for BARF ... he seems to be able to get just about anything you ask for. I can just never remember his opening hours
  4. Oh, Lea, you've got me all teary. Breeze is forever in your heart, as you say
  5. I can't be two years already?! Wow. Rest in peace, special girl.
  6. He looked wonderful last night when we stopped by. In great spirits!!
  7. I'm so sorry for your loss, Kaz Xander was one beautiful boofer. Rest in peace, big guy.
  8. Oh, I do love to hear that Ollie is bringing toys to you, Staffyluv! What a trooper
  9. For that level of care, I would recommend talking with BarneyMacRosie here on DOL about Don't Fret Pet, where the dog would be in the carer's home for the duration of kennelling. It would probably require the dog or at least your family to meet with the potential carer(s) first, so that everyone is happy, but if your family don't need kenneling straight away that won't be a problem. Regarding vets, many folks on here have never found fault with Hamish from West Queanbeyan Vet Hospital. He seems to go above and beyond, for rescues and pampered pets. He treats Staffyluv's boy Ollie and continues to work wonders
  10. How is Valentino now? Friends are just starting to notice that their dachshund is pulling up sore, so after reading this thread, I've suggested they carry him up and down the stairs from now on.
  11. He's sounding better, but sheesh, you must be tired! Gentle pats and best wishes for speedy healing
  12. I'm sorry I missed the lead-up to this, but know that Ollie is always in my thoughts. I hope the blood is all gone by morning, and that he (and you!) get some good sleep tonight.

Oh, no, Karen not your lovely Hazel girl! You gave her a wonderful home and so much love -- don't ever forget that.
  14. Gosh, I didn't realise this thread was here, and now I've joined the others who were in tears weeks ago with this sad news ;) Run free, Ziggy  Ear rubs to Tommy, who is probably wondering where his new buddy went. I'm so sorry, Longclaw
  15. Three years! Go, Ollie dog Not jumping up is a good thing, provided you're not all getting a sore back from lifting him everywhere. I bet Ollie thinks he's the king of the castle with all these human slaves Give the ol' fella a cuddle from me
  16. Maybe ask the people at NatureVet about it? Interesting that it's so similar.
  17. Yes, an update please! I hope ol' Ollie is getting around a bit more easily.
  18. I haven't caught up on Ollie's news in ages -- and this wasn't what I wanted to see The lovely old fella just loves poeple so much, he can't sit still! Good luck keeping him quiet over the next six weeks. It's almost exactly a year since Jack's MCT surgery ... still no new lumps or bumps that we can find. He's a happy, healthy and pretty silly fella :p
