My 22 kg cattle dog had one a day but as sandgrubber said, sometimes they were covered in skin and fat (never used that butcher again!) It also depends on size - if they are large frame then one should be enough.

Maybe look at compressing them using an app. This will make the file size smaller. If you Google 'compressing (ipone/Samsung/etc) videos' you will find some apps.

I did that after the dog ended up with fillet steak! Now that I only have one small dog, all the pet food is kept in the drawer in the top of the freezer.

I like the lots of short trips to fun places training. So you might only just go around the corner, open the door all excited with a little treat, hop out and romp at the local park to start off with. Then maybe drive a little further and repeat. Try to do a couple of trips every day, lengthening each time.

Locally we have some banks that allow dogs and I saw a dog in a clothing store the other day. A friend of mine takes her dog into quite a few stores in her local area. So I think you just need to ask before you enter. Most garden centers I have been to are happy for me to take my dog in with me as well.

I have a Hoover Ultra Power. It's cordless and I can do the whole house on one charge (3 bed, 2 bath, 2 living areas), it picks up the stuff along the skirting board, has a small head with a light on it so gets under furniture, around chair legs etc. I love it and do a quick run around most days to keep on top of the hair from a Cavalier and 3 Persian cats. It all picks up the bits of grass that get carried in as well. It was just under $300 from Godfreys. Take some dog hair in with you to put on their carpets and give it a go! I was given a sample by a local producer of his new grain free pet food. As I had tried a grain free before with similar results to Ixon I was a bit reluctant to try again. He said that with grain free foods I needed to feed a lot less than I did with the product I was using. So basically, the diarrhea was caused by overfeeding. After 14 days of being impounded, a microchipped dog becomes the property of the Council, in NSW, so that's why they are saying you have no claim. If I was you I would be making a lot of waves and I would suggest you contact your local Councillor to see if they can help. Be persistent!

How far south? I stayed in a nice self contained place at Tuross Head last month.

I ran into a couple at a dog show that put their dog (with separation anxiety) in the car, in the garage, when they went out (they had 2 cars). She immediately went to sleep and was still there when they came home!

My vote would be for a Havanese as well. Delightful little dogs and don't seem to have any health problems. I have met quite a few Maltese with Cushings in the last few years.

I agree with Diva, Cavs are smart dogs and need mental stimulation as well as exercise. I've taught my girl how to fetch and then keep upping the game, eg, first of all she had to drop it at my feet, then we worked on siting calmly before I would throw it and now she has to make eye contact before I will throw it. There are lots of 'brain games' and tricks online. I also find that mental stimulation is more tiring than the physical. Also, one month isn't a long time for a dog to settle. Good luck and you sound like a great dog owner.

You could try crate training him and having him sleep where he can see humans, or feels not so shut away. What sort of mental and physical exercise does he get?

You were very lucky to have a vet that could do the surgery for you. I'm going through a similar thing at the moment with an old cat and all the local vets don't feel experienced enough to do it. One of the downers of living in regional areas.

14 is a great age for a Cav and some do live until they are 16. If he is deaf, then he will jump at your touch as he doesn't know you're there. As you approach him, bang on the floor or wall so that he can feel that you're approaching by the vibrations. And with deaf dogs, you need to touch them gently until they realise you are there.
