  1. I also like the rod that goes across the back of the front seats - should keep the protector up nice and high so no dog is tempted to try and get through.
  2. Thanks everyone! I am going to get the Running Dog one posted by KelpieHoundMum as I like the way it zips up near the doors. These sides can then be let down for the little dogs to scramble in without getting mud, grass, dirt etc up the side of the seat. Their website isn't working properly at the moment but then can be purchased on Ebay http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Seat-Protector-car-...b5#ht_540wt_907
  3. I am thinking of getting a sedan as I am a bit over driving a wagon. Plus there just isn't the range of wagons there used to be to chose from. So who has a sedan and how do you keep the dog hair to a minimum?
  4. I vaguely remember reading about these two dogs in one of the rescue threads. Can anyone else?
  5. Didyou get my email about the cat Steve? I have a friend in southern Sydney who is interested but wanted to know more details.
  6. Cats of Australia were a great site (and the first cat forum in Australia) but there were some admin problems. Sadly it didn't taken off again once they were sorted. http://www.catsofaustralia.com/forums/index.php?act=idx
  7. Ewww that stuff is stinky and my glutinous cattle dog wouldn't eat his food when I put that on top. There is another one called Missing Edge that is more palatable. I am sure other DOLers will have some advice as well.
  8. Start with the simple method - remove anything from close to her mouth if she goes to lick it.. hands, feet etc. They can't lick what they can't reach. I have Cav girl that licks a lot, I use this method but it is a bit hard when you are trying to put a collar and lead on to dodge the licks. It must look hilarious to observers! But as soon as I move my hand away she starts licking her lips - it is just something she does when excited.
  9. Another very sad incident. I've always hated jet skis. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/victoria/...x-1225983798212 THE killing of a dolphin calf off a Victorian beach has led to tourist operators calling for more protection for the mammals from boats and jet skis over summer. A two-month-old dolphin was found dead on the Portsea Back Beach south of Melbourne last week. The baby dolphin had suffered significant internal injuries, most likely caused by a boat or jet-ski, authorities said. Director of Moonraker Dolphin Swims in nearby Sorrento, Torie Mackinnon, said only last week she witnessed a "horrific" incident in which more than 20 jet-skiers were driving at a group of dolphins and their calves just off Rye. "It was the worst thing I have ever seen," she said. "We saw children jumping off their jet-skies onto pods of dolphins trying to grab their fins as they were swimming away. Some of the dolphins we have seen are less than five days old." et-ski traffic in southern Port Phillip Bay had doubled since last summer, making the problem worse, she said. Meanwhile, policing of the waters around the popular tourist spot by authorities has not kept up. "They (wildlife officers) are stretched so thin across the ground they can't physically drive around southern Port Phillip Bay for the summer months ensuring that the dolphins are not being harassed," she said. Troy Muir of Polperro Dolphin Swims said he also witnessed the incident and had seen others. "This is not a once off, this happens quite regularly," he said. He believes many people were ignorant about laws that stop boats from getting within 100 metres from dolphins and jet-skis 300 metres. He said people needed to be educated about the consequences of their actions around such gentle creatures. "Have an awareness that it's not just our playground, it's a habitat for lots of species, particularly the dolphins and seals," he said. Department of Sustainability and Environment senior compliance officer Glenn Sharp said the best way to protect dolphins was to get the message out to the public to observe them from the legal distance. "Just because we ask people to stay 100 metres away from dolphins doesn't mean they're not going to see a dolphin. It means they are going to interact with a dolphin safely and on the dolphin's terms, not theirs," he said. People who ignore the laws face on-the-spot fines of $176 and in more serious cases people can be criminally charged and fined more than $100,000.
  10. It needs to be in complete shade - the sun encourages the mossy growth.
  11. Absplutely sickening. Good on the people that had the presence of mind to video it and take it to the police.
  12. My vet charges a half price consult fee for the second and subsequent pets but I am a long standing and regular customer. I reckon I have my own parking space now and get annoyed if someone else is parking in it.
  13. Last minute Christmas shopper here. I will take whatever you have left - I need presents for 3 teenage boys and my aged parents. Hope you can help me.
  14. Is it like that because of the irritation where he is licking his feet?
  15. This is one of my Digger the first time he went swimming. He went in after a stick and went under, he came out of the water shooting upwards and then looked like he was trying to climb an invisible ladder to get out of that water! Still makes me laugh many years later.
  16. There are 2 "CAR" databases: Central Animal Records - seems to be Vic based Companion Animal Register - this is the default one all NSW cats and dogs must, by law, be registered on.

    Tess

That was a beautiful tribute. I know how much Tess meant to you and know she will be missed. RIP lovely girl.
  18. That is fantastic. I was only thinking of Bob yesterday and how the oldies would miss his visit to the retirement home and how we would miss the photos he shared with us.
  19. Roo meat is a bit too lean for cats - they require fat in their diet. And be careful as the preservatives destroy the thiamine in the meat. Thiamine is essential for cats and a cat can die from thiamine deficiency. It's very difficult to get pet meat without preservatives and most of the places down here tell me that all pet meat has some form of preservative in it. I try to stick to human grade and use the pet meat more as a treat as they love it!
  20. But this one is! http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=209405
  21. Check out the pinned thread in the Health forum. A map of the main tick areas for the different types is here: http://www.lovemypet.com.au/tickareasinaustralia.htm
  22. About 4-5 years ago I saw a Shih Tzu competing in Fly Ball in the western Sydney area. Knowing how the breed loves to please themselves I was very impressed!
